Chapter 1149: The City's Hero
Chapter 1149: The City’s Hero
"Do you really know my father?"
Yusei was surprised.
Youxuan stood with his hands behind his back, gazing into the distance with a nostalgic look on his face. "Yes, it's been seventeen years already."
This wasn't just idle chatter; given his current persona, it wasn't entirely a lie.
After all, his current identity was Rex Godwin. Seventeen years ago, before the Zero Reversal tragedy, both he and Rudger were members of the Perpetual Motion Research Institute, working alongside Dr. Fudo to complete the Dream Proto-Machine.
Of course, back then, Rex Godwin was much younger and far less seasoned.
Later, the legendary D-Wheel that roamed the Satellite Zone, the man who attempted to build the Daedalus Bridge to connect the Satellite Zone to the city, and who was eventually cornered by the Security Maintenance Bureau and made a daring leap on his D-Wheel from the Daedalus Bridge, was none other than the young Rex Godwin.
"Yusei Fudo, I have always believed in your boundless potential, for you are the one who inherited Dr. Fudo's will, guiding the Satellite Zone and New Domino City—no, all of humanity—toward a bright future.
Never forget this, Yusei Fudo."
Yusei's expression grew solemn, as if he felt the weight of the responsibility he carried.
"Alright, the battle against the Dark Signers is over. Everyone, go back and rest."
Youxuan said.
"Here, on behalf of the Security Maintenance Bureau and the entire city of New Domino, I thank you for fighting for this city. I promise that everyone in this city will know who stood up for them in their darkest hour."
His words struck a chord, and the Signers, who had been through life-and-death duels with the Dark Signers, were indeed exhausted. They were all eager to return home and rest.
So, they all went their separate ways, heading back to their respective homes.
Except for Akiza.
"Aren't you going back?"
Youxuan, still mimicking Godwin's stance with his hands behind his back, walked slowly toward his Security Maintenance Bureau helicopter, glancing sideways at Akiza, who was trailing a few steps behind.
Akiza looked down at the ground, her expression lost. "I have nowhere else to go."
Youxuan glanced at the despondent young woman for a moment before speaking calmly. "Maybe it's time for you to go home and see them."
Akiza shook her head. "Home? I don't have a place like that. A home where my parents look at me with fear—I don't need to go back."
"Fear of great power and the unknown is a human instinct. They may have been wrong, but you can't be too harsh on them. After all, even in their fear, they never said they would give up on you, did they?" Youxuan said.
Akiza was speechless.
Youxuan only mentioned it in passing; he had no time to deal with her family issues.
That night passed quietly.
However, by the next day, rumors had already begun to spread throughout New Domino City and the Satellite Zone.
It was only natural. Even with strict information control, the duels between the Signers and the Dark Signers had caused quite a stir.
Especially the appearance of the Earthbound Immortals, each towering and massive, causing the ground to shake with every summoning and attack.
If that wasn't enough, the Earthbound Immortals had the unsettling trait of consuming souls upon their appearance. Such a spectacle was bound to attract attention.
Within a single day, panic had already begun to spread throughout the city. Doomsday theorists seized the opportunity to propagate their beliefs, claiming that the end of the world had arrived and that yesterday's anomalies were divine punishments for the unjust and flawed human world.
Of course, the people saying this clearly had no idea that the so-called "god" they were talking about had already been thoroughly beaten and had fled back to the Underworld with his tail between his legs.
The panic spread throughout the city, but it wasn't a major issue. This was all part of the plan.
The following day, Commander Godwin of the Security Maintenance Bureau personally held a press conference to explain all the unusual events of the previous day.
Unlike previous times, the Security Maintenance Bureau did not resort to the usual flimsy excuses like "testing the latest imaging system." Instead, they directly acknowledged the existence of the Yeshen.
The Earthbound Immortals that had awakened from the Nazca geoglyphs, and the Duelists who had returned from the Underworld and wielded these Earthbound Immortals, had nearly brought the city and the world to the brink of destruction.
The Security Maintenance Bureau admitted all of this to the public.
Naturally, this caused an immediate uproar.
Previously, the Red Dragon had appeared in the city, and Earthbound Immortals had been summoned within the city. The Security Maintenance Bureau had explained these incidents as tests of the imaging system, but even then, some people were skeptical, believing it was a fabrication to calm the public. However, there was no concrete evidence at the time.
Now, there was. The Security Maintenance Bureau itself came forward, telling everyone that the extraordinary truly existed, that gods and demons were real, and that everyone had almost lost their lives to the Yeshen the previous night.
"However, citizens, there's no need to worry. The Security Maintenance Bureau will do everything in its power to ensure your safety. The Yeshen has been successfully repelled and will no longer pose a threat from now on."
Commander Godwin said this to the cameras at the press conference.
"And we owe all of this to the warriors chosen by the Red Dragon, the Signers. They risked their lives in a fierce battle and defeated the messengers of the Underworld. They are the heroes who stand at the forefront of our city's defense."
Along with this sensational news, several Signers also became famous.
Jack Atlas, the former Duel King, was already a star-like figure in New Domino City, beloved and revered by the masses. Yusei Fudo, who had defeated Jack, had recently gained a significant reputation as well. In the eyes of the public, he was beginning to transform from a " Satellite Zone scum" to a "new king."
Akiza, previously known as the Witch and widely despised, became a more controversial figure after today. Some still called her a Witch, unable to easily forget the destruction she had caused in the past, but others began to see her as a hero.
The Security Maintenance Bureau controlled a significant portion of the city's resources. If they were determined to promote something, it would only take some time to drown out the negative voices.
Just as Commander Godwin had promised, Akiza truly began to transform from a witch everyone wanted to eliminate into one of the symbols of hope for the city.
The Signers returned to their respective homes, and it seemed that the battle against the Dark Signers had come to an end.
However, Youxuan was not as confident as he appeared to be in his televised statement.
At that moment, he was deep in thought.
Was the battle against the Dark Signers truly over?
