Chapter 1147: Lock Your Collarbones
Chapter 1147: Lock Your Collarbones
Beckman gave Kuro a long, searching look, then glanced at Red-Haired Shanks before saying nothing. He stepped onto the drifting dinghy and began his departure.
He dared not stay any longer. The way Kuro had stared at him with those eyes made Beckman realize the other man truly hesitated.
And indeed, Kuro hesitated. He couldn't decide whether it would be better for this man to die or live.
But since Beckman had already lost both hands, his threat level had plummeted to something Kuro could safely ignore. If he died, the Red Hair Pirates would undoubtedly swarm like locusts. Whether Beckman lived or died, his presence or absence wouldn't make much difference in the grand scheme.
On the other hand, if he surrendered and was captured, there was a high probability the Red Hair Pirates might hold back. That probability was substantial.
Beckman wasn't foolish. He wouldn't provoke the Navy unless he had absolute certainty of saving Red-Haired Shanks. This gave the Navy valuable reaction time.
Kuro didn't believe Red-Haired Shanks' words alone could guarantee the Red Hair Pirates wouldn't retaliate against the Navy. But having preparation time was better than facing the situation head-on right now.
Especially since his orders to head to Wano Country made this moment critical. Losing one enemy temporarily was a small price to pay.
As Beckman withdrew, Red-Haired Shanks raised his head, meeting Kuro's gaze. Though his arm bled freely, his face showed no pain. Instead, he smiled, dispersing his Conqueror's Haki and Armament Haki.
"What's wrong? I've surrendered. Are you still not convinced, Admiral? Surely an Admiral's capacity isn't that small?" he teased with a smirk.
Kuro snorted coldly, extending his hand and clenching his fist. "You, a defeated man with both arms severed, still dare to mock me?"
With his motion, the sea surged violently. Tendrils of water lashed out, encasing Red-Haired Shanks in a massive water sphere that lifted him high into the air.
Kuro showed no mercy. The water sphere wrapped tightly around Red-Haired Shanks' entire body, causing instant suffocation. For a man of such strength, brief suffocation meant little, but prolonged exposure would still debilitate him.
However, Kuro had no interest in playing petty punitive games. That would only make him seem petty.
Was he a petty man?!
With a thunderous boom, Golden Lion descended again, landing heavily on the sea surface.
With a flick of Kuro's arm, the water sphere shattered. Red-Haired Shanks, now a limp ragdoll, crashed onto the ship's deck with a deafening thud.
His sudden appearance on the deck made everyone's eyes nearly pop out.
Klah instinctively transformed into a five-meter-tall werewolf the moment Red-Haired Shanks touched the deck. His limbs crouched, green eyes glowing furiously, every muscle coiled like a spring.
This was Shanks!
One of the Four Emperors!!
Even with his remaining arm severed by Admiral Kuro, he still posed a threat in their minds!
Kuro descended from the sky, landing beside Klah. "Klah, restrain him. He's surrendered."
Surrendered?!
They had seen Kuro gain the upper hand from the sky but couldn't hear the conversation. Now, hearing those words, they were stunned into silence.
"Surrendered?!"
Sazil pointed at the drenched figure in disbelief. "This is one of the Four Emperors! Shanks! Red-Haired Shanks! Surrender?!"
Once a pirate trainee who idolized legends of the seas, Sazil understood the Four Emperors who ruled the Grand Line.
The man hailed as the strongest in Haki, this ultimate legend, actually surrendered?
"Is this what a pirate becomes?"
Looking at the figure with both arms gone, soaked and pathetic, Sazil felt an inexplicable sense of unreality.
The Four Emperors weren't just pirates, right?
No matter how renowned or feared, when captured, they were just ordinary men.
Hearing this, Klah glanced at Kuro standing beside him, his sense of security surging. He shifted back to human form, pushed his glasses up, and stared at Red-Haired Shanks in shock. "Hey, you're one of the Four Emperors! You're surrendering just like that? I know Admiral Kuro is strong, but you're one of the Four Emperors!"
Once a pirate himself, he couldn't comprehend.
Sea Emperors surrendered?
It defied belief!
Even Kaido, captured by the Navy countless times, had never been known to surrender willingly.
Never. No one had ever considered the Four Emperors capable of surrender. It felt as absurd as pirates hearing one day that a Navy Admiral had quit to become a pirate.
Well, there was already one absurd example.
But this still shocked Klah beyond measure.
"There's no need for such shock", Red-Haired Shanks said, sensing Klah's amazement. He rose from the ground, still smiling. "I remember you. We met in the East Blue. You joined the Navy and made a name for yourself. Don't let that inflate your ego though. Everyone has their own mission. Even the strongest eventually fall. Isn't that something you've seen often?"
"Don't lecture me!" Klah's expression darkened. "You're just a defeated man now, Red-Haired Shanks!"
He was Navy now, a Vice Admiral under Admiral Kuro. His pirate past was history, not something to make him respect former pirate legends.
Especially after embracing Kuro's ideals, his perspective had evolved. Four Emperors? Captured Four Emperors deserved the title no longer!
Soon, Sazil dragged out several chains as thick as arms. "I-I'll do it!"
His hands trembled slightly as he approached, the heavy chains clanking loudly. He worked quickly, wrapping the chains tightly from Red-Haired Shanks' chest to knees.
After finishing, he saluted Kuro and shouted, "Report! Mission accomplished!"
"Accomplished? You call that accomplished? You're just binding him randomly!"
Kuro rolled his eyes, summoning Autumn Water from the sky. Drawing the blade, he sliced through the first chain around Red-Haired Shanks' back. The severed chain end reshaped into a sharp triangular point.
Moving his fingers, he aimed the chain's sharp tip at Red-Haired Shanks' collarbones and drove it forcefully downward.
With a thunderous thud, blood sprayed. Red-Haired Shanks furrowed his brow, letting out a muffled grunt as both sharp chains pierced entirely through his collarbones.
"This", Kuro said, chewing his cigar and looking down at Red-Haired Shanks, "is what true restraint looks like. Sorry, Red-Haired Shanks. But since it's you, I have to take precautions."
The human body was fascinating, even in this world, still had its limitations.
Arms wouldn't regrow. Internal damage still caused injury or death. And locking the collarbones would severely hinder his strength.
While this man might not betray his word, he was still a pirate. As a Navy officer, Kuro had no reason to hand control to the enemy.
