Chapter 1143: Seizing Chaos
Chapter 1143: Seizing Chaos
The Kale Combat Zone, the largest combat zone in the center of Vijiazia, caters primarily to the lower classes and regularly hosts combat tournaments.
Surrounding these tournaments, a plethora of industries have emerged, including gambling and entertainment, organ and Altered Organisms trading, and the sale of implant equipment and weapons.
Most of the Combatants here have signed lifelong contracts, with their organs and Altered Organisms mortgaged and sold. Inevitably, they are burdened with company debts.
They must fight one battle after another to repay these debts, but the more they fight, the more they owe. From the moment they step into this place, they must contribute everything they have until their flesh and value are completely drained.
Since the tournaments are aimed at the lower classes, most Combatants, except for a few star fighters, live in gelatinous houses made of biological materials, known as "Ant Nests."
In these cramped spaces, they rest, excrete, clean, and inject drugs, until they are awakened by a sound to continue their next battle, in an endless cycle.
Sometimes, the owner of an Ant Nest doesn't return, and the vacancy is immediately filled by the next owner.
They are no longer Combatants, but a group of slaves on the arena, a group of fighting machines.
Every day, those who survive the arena are locked in their Ant Nests, but today was an exception. Many Combatants found that their Ant Nests were not locked, and it wasn't until more than ten minutes later that someone tentatively stepped out.
Then, more and more Combatants emerged, looking at the square outside and feeling the cold, fresh air. Their numbed spirits were gradually awakened.
Suddenly, someone shouted something loudly, perhaps in a dialect that most people couldn't understand, but the fiery and passionate emotion it conveyed resonated with them, making their skin prickle with goosebumps. A long-lost, even absurd, hope was born in their hearts.
Someone echoed the shout, followed by more and more voices, and the increasing cries ignited the sparks of hope in many hearts.
At this moment, a voice came through their Implants: "Follow me!"
Then, a figure dashed out of the crowd, heading toward the exit. Those behind him followed without hesitation, though some were hesitant. As more and more people joined, the majority eventually joined the flood, forming a surging tide.
The combat zone was instantly filled with sharp alarms, and the Behavior Control Field was suddenly activated.
However, outside the combat zone, there were many resistance organization Resonators. They amplified their Implants on both sides of their bodies, disrupting the Behavior Control Field signals targeting the Combatants and replacing them with new information. Although this rendered their Implants unable to function normally in battle, it also meant they couldn't be controlled at will.
With a mix of emotions they couldn't believe, a large number of Combatants rushed out, dispersing quickly once outside. Some rushed out without a second thought, while others followed the leader.
This was a deliberate plan—to release more people from other arenas so they could have a better chance of escaping.
At this moment, a large number of City Guard, Combat Dolls, and Enhanced Beasts were mobilized. In the past, such uprisings could be quelled in minutes with these armed forces, but all their organized actions relied on the Field information provided by the central city.
However, many signals were now delayed or had disappeared entirely, preventing them from coordinating and establishing a unified and effective response.
This was because Alula's backup consciousness was overriding the previous one, and for at least half an hour, public services would not be available.
Besides Alula, there were many inactive consciousnesses within the city, but they had allocated resources to the Sealed Hall and the ancient museum, significantly reducing the available Field resources elsewhere. Many techniques that could be easily accomplished with a large Field had become unreliable.
A large number of armed dolls quickly malfunctioned due to their large Field control modes. Without the large Field to unlock autonomous mode, they could only be manually adjusted, which was not a quick process.
The Enhanced Beasts were even less effective, unable to accurately distinguish between targets and allies, running around aimlessly or circling in place.
The managers of the White Rock Hall received reports but did not intervene, as their primary concern was the situation at the Sealed Hall.
They had assumed the Sealed Hall could hold for at least half an hour, but after just ten minutes, the situation worsened. The Field showed that an increasing number of terrifying entities were breaking free, trying to escape.
This was absolutely unacceptable. If these entities were to break free, their destructive power would be unimaginable. Therefore, the Governor Council allocated a large amount of Field resources here, and a large number of armed forces were mobilized, including the city's defensive Gou Dou Jia, all rushing to the scene. They could not afford to worry about other areas, leaving the routine security forces to handle the situation.
Inside the Daxun Delegation's Residence, Luo Weina signed the final document. As she placed the pen down, a complex array of emotions flickered in her eyes.
The person in charge of the negotiations said, "Ms. Luo, you can rest assured. We will take good care of your Dojo. According to the agreement, you and your mother will always retain your founder status; this will not change."
Luo Weina let out a light sigh, seeming somewhat relieved. She stood up and bowed to Xie Team Leader and Chen Chuan, saying, "Then... I leave it to you." She added, "I have disturbed you all today. I think it's time for me to take my leave."
Xie Team Leader stood up and smiled, saying, "Ms. Luo, there might be some issues in the Central City. It's quite chaotic outside, and we don't recommend you leave right now. You can stay here for a while longer and leave when it's safe."
Luo Weina replied, "Thank you, Xie Team Leader. I will consider it."
She bowed to Xie Team Leader, Chen Chuan, and the others before walking out. The moment she and her team left the room, Chen Chuan looked up, glancing at the place where Alura was present.
After Luo Weina returned to her room, she suddenly said, "Did that Chen Chuang see you, Alura?"
Alura responded, "Perhaps there is someone like me near him."
"Someone like you..." Luo Weina's expression turned serious, "What should we do? Now that he has discovered us, will there be any danger? Should we leave immediately?"
In the negotiation room, Xie Team Leader, with his exceptional observational skills as a diplomat, noticed something amiss after the others left. He turned to Chen Chuan and asked, "Chen Chuang, was something wrong just now?"
Chen Chuan nodded slightly. His superior Soul Aura allowed him to easily see Alura standing behind Luo Weina. He recognized Alura's form and knew she was an Active Consciousness Entity from the Weizhou Central City.
The Residence was equipped with Aetheric Field interference devices, making it impossible for anyone to enter. Yet, she not only appeared but also attached herself to Luo Weina in a unique state. This state was familiar to him; it was similar to how Hong Fu had followed him initially.
Considering the sudden series of events tonight, he felt this might be related. He also had a feeling that the recent activities of the Resistance might be connected.
When Xie Team Leader asked, he did not hide what he had seen and shared his thoughts directly.
After hearing this, Xie Team Leader's expression turned serious. He did not respond immediately but thought for a moment before saying, "Chen Chuang, please wait a moment. I will be back shortly." With that, he left the room.
Chen Chuan knew that he was likely contacting the domestic authorities or a secret department. Matters involving an Active Consciousness Entity required approval from the higher-ups.
After a while, Xie Team Leader returned. He closed the door and sat down again, saying, "Chen Chuang, I suggest we don't get involved too much in this matter. I will also share some information with you..."
He paused, "The Resistance organization here in the Federation has been supported by Da Shun for a long time. However, it's not just to have them oppose the Federation; there are longer-term considerations."
He looked at Chen Chuan, "Many of them are our people. Some of their actions and plans are known to the higher-ups, and some even receive support from us."
Chen Chuan nodded, glancing outside, "So the current situation outside might be influenced by our people?"
Xie Team Leader mused, "The specific actions are, of course, not entirely under our control. If the Resistance organization's actions never conflicted with ours, it would be counterproductive for us to be behind them. As long as their actions do not harm our fundamental interests, we can tolerate them and don't need to support the Federation."
He stood up and looked out the window, "Even if we wanted to help, the Federation might not appreciate it."
Chen Chuan nodded, "I understand."
He could guess that if this involved a plan from the higher-ups in Da Shun, and if what he saw was indeed Alura's consciousness, then the higher-ups might be targeting Alura.
After all, Weizhou was the city of world-class fighters, and Alura, as the central Active Consciousness Entity, had collected countless valuable pieces of information over the decades, including a large amount of experimental data. This was a massive wealth, and if they could obtain it, it would significantly speed up technological advancements and upgrades.
As they were speaking, a voice came through the Jie Ping, "Report, Xie Team Leader, Chen Chuang, the car to pick up Ms. Luo and her team has arrived. They want to leave. Should we allow them to go?"
