Chapter 114: I'll Give You the Book, Learn It Yourself!
Chapter 114: I’ll Give You the Book, Learn It Yourself! (First Update, Requesting Subscriptions!)
The Carving Knife became increasingly difficult to handle after being infused with Magic Power. A slight misstep, whether by injecting too much Magic Power or applying too much force, would require starting over.
Even with the Scholar Experience Card’s accelerated thinking, Ivan only succeeded in his third attempt at engraving the Runic Script on the Yew Wood after two failures.
After completing the engraving, Ivan tried infusing Magic Power into it, and the Runic Script immediately reacted, emitting a faint, dark mist.
"Is this considered a success?" Ivan turned around and asked Aisia.
Aisia nodded instinctively, staring blankly at the Runic Script on the Yew Wood. It was too fast!
She remembered how long it took her to successfully engrave and activate a complete Runic Script on Yew Wood the first time.
Two months? Three months?
She had thought her talent was quite good back then, even feeling proud of it.
Thinking about this, Aisia felt a bit discouraged but maintained a poker face to preserve her dignity as a teacher.
"Engraving Runes is just the most basic task. The truly challenging part is the Rune Arrangement."
Ivan nodded solemnly and prepared to invest more Academic Points, ready to start the arduous learning process.
A few days passed quickly, and Aisia, who was explaining Rune Arrangement to Ivan, began to doubt her own existence.
After explaining the meanings of the Runic Script and a few arrangement methods, Ivan strongly insisted on moving on to other content instead of repeating the basics for reinforcement.
"Are you sure you understand?" Aisia asked, disbelieving.
"Of course. For example, to create a Corrosion-based Dark Magic Item, you can use the 11367 arrangement formula. Rune number one represents Corrosion, which is the core of the formula. Number three is for transmitting Magic Power. Number six controls whether the Magic Item is activated, and the final number seven Rune is the protective shell to prevent the magic from harming you."
Ivan spoke earnestly and then began engraving on a finely crafted ring. A few minutes later, a brand new Magic Item was created.
[Ding, you have created a new Magic Item. Please name it!]
Ring of Corrosion, Ivan thought to himself, then checked the item’s information.
Magic Item: Ring of Corrosion
Magic Power: Low
Effect: When infused with Magic Power, instantly cast a Corrosion-based Dark Magic
Description: A Magic Item created by a beginner using the most common magical materials. The only advantage is the extremely beautiful engraving of the Runic Script. You shouldn’t expect it to provide much help in battle.
Looking at the item’s description in the system panel, Ivan’s lips twitched. This was his first real Magic Item, and he wished the system could give a better evaluation.
Ivan tried activating the ring, targeting the workbench. A faint black light flashed, and the edges of the workbench slowly aged and rotted.
The effect was decent, but the Corrosion was too slow. No wonder it was said to be limited in battle. Wizards are protected by Magic Power, and this level of Corrosion Magic is indeed weak.
Ivan sighed and tossed the ring aside, planning to make a better one later.
"Mom, can we start learning some more complex Runic Script formulas now?" Ivan said eagerly.
"Here’s the book, learn it yourself!" Aisia said expressionlessly as she tossed a copy of *Advanced Runic Script Analysis* onto the table. She felt she needed some time to herself.
She remembered what she was supposed to teach these past few days?
It seemed she was planning to have Ivan engrave a couple of basic runes on a wooden board?
Now that Ivan had learned most of her hard-earned research, she needed to properly organize the truly profound knowledge she had, otherwise, she wouldn’t know what else to teach him.
With a strange expression, Aisia left the work area, and Ivan earnestly opened the newly acquired *Advanced Runic Script Analysis*. All sorts of peculiar ideas flooded his mind, and he even considered whether he could independently decipher some simple rune sequences.
Just as he was about to act, Ivan suddenly felt his various creative thoughts forcibly interrupted, and he stared blankly for a moment.
"What was I just thinking about?"
*Ding, the experience card mode has expired. Do you want to renew it?*
"No, get lost!" Ivan said, feeling quite pained.
The reason he could memorize the meanings and arrangement methods of various runes in just a few days was entirely due to the seven hours of experience card mode he had used intermittently, which cost him a majority of his Academic Points.
Of course, even so, his learning over these few days couldn’t compare to Aisia’s years of accumulation.
After all, deciphering a rune formula required a great deal of time and effort, but learning a rune formula was much simpler.
Moreover, Aisia had been very generous this time, revealing all her techniques without any reservation. If he still couldn’t learn quickly, he would have wasted a lot of Academic Points.
After exiting the accelerated learning state, Ivan picked up his Carving Knife again and practiced engraving runes.
This time, Ivan engraved very slowly, and the runes were far from the standards he had achieved before, but he wasn’t surprised. He had known this would happen.
What he could do in the experience card mode didn’t necessarily mean he could do it under normal circumstances.
However, the knowledge and the feel of engraving he had gained were still retained, and all he needed to do was solidify them through extensive practice.
Over the next period, Ivan focused on learning more advanced rune knowledge and never stopped his daily practice of rune engraving.
His Academic Points could only be increased by improving his Spell Level, which was a slow process, so his regular efforts were crucial.
Occasionally, Ivan would discuss new rune arrangements with Aisia.
They planned to develop some defensive magic items based on the principles of the spell-proof hat that the Weasley Twins, George and Fred, had researched.
Since George and Fred could achieve this through their research, Ivan believed that he and Aisia could also manage it with some effort.
Once they started, Ivan realized how difficult it was to develop a new rune arrangement.
Apart from the time and effort required, it also needed a substantial amount of Galleons.
The runes had to be engraved on highly conductive magical materials to be activated, and unknown rune formulas carried significant risks. A damaged item was a good outcome; one could easily end up dead. Therefore, they had to proceed with caution.
Otherwise, the stone tablet with over a hundred ancient runes wouldn’t have only a third of them with detailed annotations.
