Chapter 114: Gastly's Proposal: Should We Go Big?
Chapter 114: Gastly's Proposal: Should We Go Big?
Kalos Region.
Twilight. A Secluded Cafe.
The quiet cafe was nearly empty, with only two people seated inside.
To the soft, lingering tune, Korrina gently stirred her drink with a straw, the ice cubes clinking softly.
Across from her sat a tall, imposing man with orange-red hair that resembled a lion's mane, dressed in a black suit. If Jing He were here, he would recognize this calm, smiling man as none other than Flavio, the leader of Team Flare and the representative of the Flavio Research Institute.
"Young may be beautiful, but it doesn't last forever. Everything changes, and I want to live and change with it. That's why I always try on different roles," Korrina said, taking a sip from her straw.
Flavio smiled and picked up a small cup of milk.
"Isn't maintaining beauty your duty? Everything should remain beautiful."
"But Flavio, nothing and no one can stay the same forever," Korrina replied.
"I'll make them stay the same. I can make them both fleeting and eternal."
Flavio poured the milk into his coffee, the black and white blending seamlessly. Korrina was taken aback, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions. Flavio's gaze, however, remained resolute.
"I cannot tolerate a world that is no longer beautiful."
"Flavio," Korrina suddenly interrupted, her voice soft. Under his puzzled gaze, she smiled and continued, "I met someone a few days ago. His ideals are very similar to yours. Perhaps you two would have a lot to talk about?"
"Hmm?" Flavio's expression showed surprise.
Similar to his ideals? And someone Korrina approves of?
He knew Korrina well. Though she was a star and a "goddess" in many people's eyes, always friendly to her fans, there were very few people she truly respected. If he had to count, Nando from Sinnoh would be one, and he himself might count as half.
"I might be interested in meeting this person," Flavio said slowly.
"I'll ask him first and get back to you in a few days," Korrina replied, standing up. "Sorry, I have to rush to a shoot. I'll see you later."
Those words, of course, were taught to her by Jing He. When Jing He realized he couldn't refuse, he coached Korrina on what to say. Just like guiding the "Math Magician," for someone as radical as Flavio, rational arguments wouldn't work. First, he had to align with Flavio's identity and ideals, gain his trust, and then slowly try to change his mindset.
Alone at the table, Flavio fell into deep thought.
"Similar to my ideals?"
He had to admit, he was intrigued, and not just a little. After all, what he wanted to achieve was no small feat. If he could find someone who understood and agreed with him, it would bring him much comfort.
Hoenn, Canas City.
Morning.
Boom!!
Jing He was jolted awake by the sudden noise. He had returned late last night, and this morning he managed to survive Gastly's "Lick" and Weavile's "Headbutt," but he couldn't avoid Beldum's "Hammer Arm."
He rolled over and saw a large hole in the floor. Realizing its mistake, Beldum quickly buried its head in a fallen blanket, its small bottom wiggling.
Jing He's forehead twitched with a black line.
You really know how to play "ostrich," don't you?
Looking at the hole in the floor, Jing He couldn't help but rub his forehead. His worst fears had come true. His Pokemon were starting to "renovate" the house.
It was inevitable. As his Pokemon trained and grew stronger, their moves became more powerful and destructive. It was only a matter of time before they caused some damage.
Not every Pokemon could absorb a "Shadow Ball" like Gastly.
He had expected Gastly or Weavile to be the first, but it turned out to be Beldum. It had learned a lot from Nando's Lucario yesterday and was excited to practice. He had finally calmed it down to sleep, only for it to start hammering away early in the morning.
Fortunately, it only damaged the floor.
During breakfast, he called in a construction crew and paid them in cash before heading to work with his three Pokemon.
'Maybe I should consider moving to a bigger place now that I'm earning a million a month?'
Jing He thought as he walked to work.
But he quickly dismissed the idea. On one hand, a million a month was nothing compared to the "gold guzzlers" he had. On the other hand, the current apartment complex was old, and repairs weren't too expensive. If he moved somewhere else and those three started wreaking havoc...
'Let's set a small goal, no, a tenth of a small goal. Once I achieve it, I'll consider moving!'
Jing He resolved in his heart.
Work at the school was relatively easy for him. Other teachers were either busy preparing lessons or getting ready for the mid-term exams, and the students were all tense.
Even Diantha, after returning from the "Youth Performance Match," visited his counseling office less frequently.
Jing He was more than happy to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet.
On days when he had no urgent matters, he would take the three little ones to the spacious outdoor training grounds behind the school.
Although the salary of a teacher at the academy wasn't particularly high, Jing He had no intention of giving up his position.
After all, the free training grounds, the free office, and the free coffee machine were quite appealing.
Moreover, what title would he hold if he were to set aside his role as a teacher?
Sakaki's personal advisor!
The personal advisor to the leader of Team Rocket, Sakaki!
When Sakaki's true identity was exposed, Jing He feared he might be in for a rough ride.
Time always seemed to fly by during training sessions.
During these periods, Jing He would also answer questions from trainers who consulted him online.
He then discussed some matters related to training Ice-type Pokemon with Kona. Since he now knew Kona's identity, Jing He didn't hold back with his questions, especially about how to use the 'Non-Melting Ice' more effectively. Kona patiently provided detailed answers.
Additionally, Jing He had a brief chat with Daimu, discussing some ideas about training Steel-type Pokemon. Combining the advice from Lucario and Cynthia, he had a clearer direction for training his young Machop.
A few more days passed.
One morning, Jing He was preparing breakfast when he heard a voice from the balcony.
"Hello, there's a package for you. Please sign for it!"
Looking over, he saw a rather imposing Pidgeot on the balcony. It was the evolved form of Pidgey and had a small horn attached to its neck.
Jing He couldn't help but exclaim in surprise. The last Pidgey he encountered must have complained, leading to a Pidgeot delivering the package this time.
He wondered if he had been blacklisted by the "Pidgey Express" company.
Fortunately, after comparing the Pidgeot with the Steelix plushie, Machop put away its hammer and didn't attack.
Following Jing He's instructions, Gastly retrieved the package from the box on Pidgeot's back, paid the delivery fee, and even offered a few Energy Cubes.
This seemed to soften Pidgeot's stern expression.
Gastly even chatted with Pidgeot for a bit.
"Keh~~" (Bro, with your skills and strength, why deliver packages?)
Pidgeot shook its head and sighed.
"Bi~~" (Life is tough. We must cherish every moment, bro.)
"Keh?" (So, you're a Pokemon with a story?)
Pidgeot's expression became even more melancholic.
"Bi~~" (Back when I was a Pidgey, I was quite the standout in the flock.)
"Keh" (Bro, how about we pull off something big?)
"Bi?"
"Keh~~" (You go and lure a few arrogant Flying-type Pokemon here, and we'll...)
As it spoke, Gastly took out two black masks and a cape from its mouth.
"Bi! Σ(дlll)"
Flap, flap—
Pidgeot turned and flew away.
The Pokemon in this house were really dangerous!
"What did you talk about with that Pidgeot?"
Looking at the returning Gastly, Jing He couldn't help but ask.
Gastly waved the masks and cape in its hand.
"Keh"
I invited it to join us in a heroic deed, but it ran away.
It turned out that the recent episode of "Froakie's Adventure" featured Froakie (a male with a mask) defeating a villain, which had gotten Gastly a bit excited.
It wanted to "replicate" the scene, but Pidgeot didn't even listen and flew away.
Jing He's expression was a bit odd.
He glanced at the two black masks in Gastly's hand.
Pidgeot probably thought Gastly was planning a bank heist.
Jing He wasn't sure if he had been blacklisted by the delivery company before, but after today, he was likely to be on the "watch list."
Unpacking the delivery, he found that the items were from a company called "Iron Fist."
This company specialized in custom Pokemon training equipment. Although their products were expensive, the quality was excellent. However, they weren't well-known. Daimu had recommended it to him, saying it had close ties with Devon Corporation.
Jing He had bought a "Strength Wristband" for Machop. It could both limit and enhance Machop's strength.
"The technology in the Pokemon world is truly advanced."
Especially some of the outrageous tech geniuses.
For example, the three members of Team Rocket.
Apart from their inability to catch Pikachu, they were maxed out in makeup, technology, business, and physical strength.
They could easily create hot air balloons and submarines.
And little guys like Xtruller could churn out various black tech as easily as drinking water.
"Their advertising skills are truly lacking, though."
The "strongest" champion Diantha was used only for posting ads?
He had no idea what the investors were thinking.
A company like "Iron Fist" could easily become famous by launching a concept ad like the "Groudon Flight Plan."
"Come on, Machop, this is specially made for you. It will make your hammer swings even more powerful!"
Under Machop's eager gaze, Jing He put the "Strength Wristband" on it.
In addition to the wristband, Jing He had also purchased a batch of higher-quality and more expensive berries.
He had been studying Mikel's "Energy Cube Recipe Book" for a few days and was planning to try making some more advanced Energy Cubes!
