Chapter 114: Can You Keep Up With My Speed?
Chapter 114: Can You Keep Up With My Speed?
There was no way an ordinary pirate could escape this kind of situation.
Frank was practically scared stiff.
Three Admirals, a Navy hero, and the Navy Chief of Staff? This lineup alone filled him with despair.
But!
But!!
He was a pirate. If he managed to escape, wouldn’t he become world-famous?
"My speed is absolutely fine!"
Frank’s courage surged. The glowing barrier around him became even denser.
The power of the Speed-Speed Fruit allowed him to accelerate himself or designated targets. Thanks to this ability, he’d never feared Navy crackdowns before.
However, his current limit was fivefold acceleration. Pushing further would cost him dearly.
Yet if he escaped, his bounty would definitely skyrocket! After proceeding to Shabondy, he’d become one of the Over-100-Million Super Novas!
He might even become the Super Nova with the highest bounty of them all!
"Eightfold!"
A wisp of blood trickled from Frank’s lips. His body trembled slightly from the strain, then vanished from Kuzan’s sight in a flash, reappearing at the ship’s edge.
Borsalino narrowed his eyes, slashing backward with his sword like a whirlwind, aiming a devastating cut at Frank.
Frank had barely begun to leap downward when a chilling aura surged behind him. Turning his head, he saw Borsalino slicing at him at a speed rivaling even his accelerated state, sending a shiver down his spine.
His own acceleration made others seem like snails—eight times slower to Frank’s eyes.
Yet this sword strike was actually slightly faster than his current speed!
"Tenfold!"
Blood seeped from Frank’s body. To ordinary eyes, his figure had become a blur of near-stillness. With just a twitch of his eyelids, he reappeared at the opposite side of the ship deck, narrowly dodging Borsalino’s slash.
"Can you keep up with my Speed?!"
Frank grinned. All he needed to do now was jump—and he’d escape this hellish battlefield!
He’d be famous!
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a beam of light pierced through his abdomen, slamming into the pirate ship below.
Boom!!!
The pirate ship erupted in a colossal explosion, shattering into countless fragments.
Frank spat a wisp of blood and collapsed onto the deck.
Lucius Kro lowered his finger, remarking, "Truly incredible speed. Quite terrifying, really."
Run? How could he possibly escape?
"Hey, someone come with Seastone Handcuffs!"
Garp chuckled, pointing at Frank as he laughed heartily, "Your luck sure is bad, huh! Puhahaha!"
...
With Frank injured, the remaining pirates on the warship quickly surrendered, getting rounded up and detained by the Navy.
The injured Navy members were being treated on the deck, creating a bustling scene.
Even ordinary Navy soldiers, despite receiving Headquarters-grade training far superior to the Branch Navy, still struggled against Devil Fruit users.
If they hadn’t been on the ship, this would’ve been a simple warship ambush for Frank with little trouble.
"Borsalino, you shouldn’t have intervened."
On the upper deck, Akainu spoke to Lucius Kro, "The Old Man wanted to see Kuro’s abilities firsthand. The man praised by Hawk-Eye as someone capable of challenging his throne should have impressive swordsmanship."
"Oh~ You’re interested now? I thought you hadn’t used a blade in ages?" Lucius Kro raised an eyebrow.
"The Old Man not using a blade doesn’t mean he can’t use one. You should know that, Borsalino."
Akainu replied, "True, I haven’t used a blade since obtaining my Devil Fruit ability. However, blades are merely tools of destruction, and my ability already possesses the greatest destructive power in the world. After all, blades are inconvenient tools. Strength is strength, regardless of the medium."
Akainu did know swordsmanship.
Before he consumed his Devil Fruit.
Back then, Akainu often carried a blade on his back. But after obtaining the Lava-Lava Fruit, he shifted focus entirely to his Devil Fruit abilities.
The Lava-Lava Fruit contained the most destructive power in the world.
Far more devastating than any blade.
"That is terrifying", Lucius Kro shrugged. "Still, since I could resolve things effortlessly, there’s no need to make it complicated. You’ll see Kuro fight soon. These younger generations are quite formidable."
Below them, Kuro perked up his ears.
He heard that!
You want me to fight?
You think I don’t know what you’re scheming?
This pirate’s bounty is 980 million, and his Devil Fruit ability is already analyzed. It’s not some overpowered fruit.
Of course, it’d be easy for me to step in, but doing so would only create headaches.
You want to force promotion on me?
Dream on!
Kuro’s contemptuous smile masked his inner panic: Even during the Top War, I only ever waved my blade around pointlessly. Fight? If I try, I’ll probably get crippled and need you to carry my corpse!
Bang!
Just then, a Navy officer rushed over holding Seastone Handcuffs but collided with a medical crew member.
The officer stumbled, the Seastone Handcuffs flying from his grasp. By sheer coincidence, the cuffs landed on Kuro himself, who’d been eavesdropping on the conversation above.
The cuffs clamped onto his wrists.
Click!
With a soft sound, Kuro felt a chilling cold against his skin. He looked down to see one half of the cuffs neatly locked around his wrist, perfectly aligned.
"Apologies, apologies."
The officer stood up, approaching Kuro with the key in hand.
Soon, he felt a chilling aura and instinctively looked up, locking eyes with Kuro. The sight sent a shiver down his spine.
"L-Lieutenant?"
"Could you hurry? If you’re any slower, I fear something unpleasant might happen." Kuro’s voice was eerily calm, like a dying man’s last words.
His expression matched—pale, emotionless, eyes empty as a dried-up well.
What’s going on?
Is this officer angry?
Seems like a tough guy to work with.
It’s just an accidental cuffing, barely even locked. Could it really be the end of the world?
The officer lowered his head, focusing on unlocking the cuffs.
Meanwhile, Kuro’s heart raced.
Seastone neutralized Devil Fruit powers, temporarily turning users into ordinary humans and stripping their physical strength.
However, it couldn’t negate passive physical enhancements or abilities already manifested. A Devil Fruit user couldn’t even destroy the Seastone itself.
Kuro understood this well. During his vacation in East Blue, he’d experimented with Seastone.
Wearing Seastone would suppress his powers, making him temporarily ordinary.
The Float-Float Fruit ability had three stages in Kuro’s estimation, based on Shanks' usage.
Stage One: Maintaining levitation required constant physical strength.
Stage Two: Physical strength was only needed initially—Shanks’ current level.
Stage Three: Awakening, a legendary stage Kuro hadn’t even begun to explore.
While Seastone weakened his physical strength, for Kuro, that made little difference. His current control was still at Stage One.
And Seastone would temporarily disable his ability entirely!
Rumble...
A sudden thunderous noise echoed from the clear blue sky.
Kuzan looked up, frowning. "No lightning. Why the sound?"
