Chapter 1129: Naming the Territory and Upgrading Methods
Chapter 1129: Naming the Territory and Upgrading Methods
The cargo ship continued downstream.
Su Yu stood at the bow, enjoying the river breeze, and discussed the construction of the territory with the two ladies.
Wings Dragon smoothed her hair and said, "I have some experience with territory management. I've played almost all major single-player and online games, including city-building genres. In our previous holographic game, 'Mystic Realm,' our 'Game Masters' guild owned a small town, which I managed entirely."
Sky Dragon raised her hand excitedly and said, "I have experience with mobile gaming and in-app purchases! Isn't it just about buying resources when you're short, and using infinite [Speed-Up Cards] to max out your levels?"
Su Yu laughed. "You both have valid points! How about this—I'll give you both management permissions for the territory. What do you think about working together to build this place?"
"Sounds good to me!" Sky Dragon smiled, her eyes squinting in delight.
"As for me..." Wings Dragon hesitated.
As a high-level player, Wings Dragon wanted to ensure her rank, level, and equipment were always at the top.
Managing a territory would require a lot of effort, and she was worried it would slow down her progress in the game, making it a less favorable choice.
Su Yu saw through her thoughts and smiled. "Don't worry. I have ways to keep your rank in the top twenty and ensure your equipment is among the best for clerics. That should put your mind at ease, right?"
"If that's the case, I'm willing to focus my main efforts on managing the territory." Wings Dragon thought for a moment and finally agreed.
If anyone else had made such a promise, Wings Dragon would have dismissed it outright, but since it was Su Yu, she couldn't help but believe him.
"Me, me, me! I want good equipment too!" Sky Dragon raised her hand high.
"Don't worry, you won't be left out!" Su Yu bent down and playfully pinched her cute little nose.
The cargo ship continued its journey down the river.
When they were about two to three hundred meters from the territory, a deep male voice suddenly echoed in their ears:
"From the first sprout of life in the waters to the massive beasts of the Stone Age, and from the first human to stand upright, you have experienced much. Now, embark on your greatest exploration: from the cradle of early civilizations to the vast expanse of the cosmos."
"Who's that? Who's speaking?" Sky Dragon looked around alertly.
"It's probably just the pre-construction cutscene for the territory." Su Yu shrugged, not too concerned.
At that moment, he received a system prompt:
" Ding, please name your territory."
"Ladies, we need to name the territory. Any good suggestions?" Su Yu looked at them.
Crush Territory? Yellow Turban Territory? Neither seemed quite right.
"Hmm..." Sky Dragon rested her chin on her hand and said slowly, "The territory is so close to the sea, and it's at the mouth of a major river... How about we call it 'Upsea'?"
"Upsea?" Su Yu and Wings Dragon were taken aback for a moment.
"Sure, why not." Su Yu thought about it and agreed. After all, a name is just a label, and using a familiar name could make the players feel more at home.
However, when Su Yu entered "Upsea" into the system, he received another game prompt:
" Ding, you cannot use names that are direct translations of real-world locations."
"Uh, it seems we can't use direct translations. How about we come up with something else?" Su Yu looked at Sky Dragon.
"Can't use direct translations?"
Sky Dragon tilted her head in thought.
Suddenly, an idea popped into her head. "I've got it! Since 'Upsea' is a direct translation, let's modify it. What about 'Apsis Territory'?"
"Apsis..." Su Yu couldn't help but comment, "If we applied this method to other names, it would be interesting to see the results."
"Sure, that sounds pretty cool."
"Then let's name our territory Aupshi!" Su Yu declared, filling in the name on the form.
At the riverbank, a small cargo ship slowly approached and docked.
This time, Su Yu had only bought a small cargo ship, not a large one, mainly because the territory didn't have a proper dock yet, and a large ship wouldn't be able to dock. As expected, the small cargo ship managed to land on the gravel beach, while a larger ship would have been stranded in the middle of the river.
"Divine Wing, you and Little Tian help the crew unload the cargo. I'll go check out the territory," Su Yu instructed.
He had bought a large batch of supplies in Oulan City, including food, salt, clothing, logging saws, and iron shovels for quarrying, all of which were loaded onto the ship.
"Sure thing!" Divine Wing replied, turning to direct the crew.
Su Yu stepped onto the firm ground of his territory and walked toward the central thatched cottage.
As he walked, the territory's attribute panel automatically appeared before him:
Aupshi Village
Level: Small Village
Population: 4/200
Prosperity: 55/100
Habitability: 47/100
Resources: Food 0, Wood 0, Stone 0, Gold 0
Su Yu was very clear about how to develop his territory.
In the game Evolution, the key factor for upgrading a territory is one and only one: population.
Of course, this refers to NPC population.
- When the NPC population reaches 200, the territory upgrades to a Medium Village.
- At 400, it becomes a Large Village.
- At 600, it becomes a Giant Village.
- At 1,000, it upgrades to a Small Town.
- At 2,000, it becomes a Medium Town.
- And so on.
When the population reaches 10,000, it upgrades to a Small County.
When it reaches 100,000, it becomes a Small City.
Apart from population, there are no other restrictions for upgrading a territory, making it quite flexible!
However, increasing the population is not an easy task.
Population can't be bought with money. While some NPCs can be attracted with money to work in the territory, they don't count toward the population.
Every two hours (one in-game day), some Refugees will spawn at the edges of the territory.
The higher the territory's prosperity and habitability, the more Refugees will spawn.
When Refugees join the territory and become part of it, the population increases.
Prosperity and habitability are comprehensive indicators of the territory's development.
- Prosperity is the current development index of the territory.
- Habitability represents how happy the residents are.
In simple terms:
- The more and better-equipped the basic buildings and facilities, the higher the prosperity.
- The more food and work available, and the more diverse the cultural and entertainment options (like theaters, arenas, circuses, and parks), the higher the habitability.
Both prosperity and habitability have a maximum of 100 points.
- Above 60 points, the population grows normally.
- Above 90 points, the population grows exponentially.
- Below 60 points, the population decreases slowly.
- Below 10 points, it's almost time to consider abandoning the territory.
If one is too high and the other too low, the lower one takes precedence.
In general, if the lord invests effort in building various structures and meeting the increasing material and cultural needs of the residents, the territory's prosperity and habitability will remain at a high level.
However, special events like Monster Sieges, Bandit Raids, Floods, Typhoons, or Criminal Activities can cause both prosperity and habitability to drop.
This requires precise management and the implementation of appropriate policies to strengthen the territory's security and defense, ensuring the population continues to grow at a high rate and the territory can eventually upgrade to a city level.
