Chapter 1127: Those Are Family, Friends, and Brothers!
Chapter 1127: Those Are Family, Friends, and Brothers!
Does Kuro have the right to depose a king?
Of course not.
Even the World Government doesn't have that right. They only collect protection fees, lacking the authority to forcibly depose or install kings.
The previous incident in Dressrosa occurred because Donquixote Doflamingo was the legitimate king under legal theory. His criminal actions led to his downfall, leaving Dressrosa without a ruler. While King Riku was recognized by neighboring nations, under legal theory, he wasn't technically Dressrosa's king since he had abdicated. At that time, Riku wasn't even considered nobility, and with no other royal family members, the World Government accepted selecting a new king.
The same applies now—the World Government holds no such right.
However, if someone commits crimes, the Navy arresting them is normal. Though somewhat forced, once actions are taken, the World Government will reluctantly acknowledge them.
When it involves world nobles, the World Government displays shameless, bottomless tactics.
Knowing this well, Kuro had no hesitation about arresting Edmund.
"Isn't over a million lives at stake here? I won't kill you or harm you—just Seastone cuffs. What can you do then?"
Without another word, he signaled the Navy soldiers armed with Seastone net guns. Balls of Seastone-laced nets shot forth, ensnaring Edmund and draining his strength.
The prepared Navy soldiers swiftly slapped Seastone Handcuffs on Edmund, rendering him completely powerless.
"You have no right to arrest me! No right!" Edmund roared, struggling against his restraints.
Kuro exhaled a puff of smoke. "Still got fight left in you? Save your breath. Keep that yapping for Impel Down. Don't worry—if they release you again, I'll personally rip Magellan's head off."
Why not twist his own head off? Nonsense—he wasn't Impel Down's warden or deputy warden.
"Screeee!"
As Edmund was restrained, a piercing cry echoed from the sky. A massive eagle dove from the castle tower above.
Outside, York, the bespectacled rotund man, seethed with rage.
He'd gathered numerous King's Army troops to breach the Navy's defenses.
"Get out of the way!"
You're blockading the palace—are you all trying to lose your posts? There's a member state's king inside!
"No way!"
Sazil, standing guard outside, shook his head. "Even though you're my friend, I can't let you pass. The person inside broke the law."
"Move aside, Sazil! We're best friends! Isn't betraying some rules for friends normal?" York's eyes gleamed with an odd light.
"..."
Sazil hesitated.
Right, these were his closest companions—blood brothers!
Should I add something?
Wrong—no money involved.
"Step aside, Sazil. For the sake of friendship."
York's voice carried an irresistible temptation as he approached. "We're friends. I'm saving my king—that's not wrong. I'm not even asking you to help. Simply letting me pass fulfills your duty as a friend. We're best friends, aren't we?"
Friends?
As York spoke, disdain flickered in his eyes.
He could have friends anytime he wanted.
Eating the Friendly Devil Fruit made him the "Friendly Man"—within one meter, anyone entering his ability's range would feel compelled to consider him their closest friend. Physical contact was just a ruse; he could activate his power without touching them.
Earlier, Sazil had already fallen under his influence. He'd planned to affect the Navy's higher-ups too, but those individuals had been alert enough to keep him at a one-meter distance.
But one person was better than none. This Commander at least could cause the Navy trouble for a while.
As he pondered, York neared Sazil, raising his hand to slap his shoulder. "Sazil, I—"
Suddenly, a fist filled his vision, growing larger until it blocked everything.
Bang!
York crashed to the ground.
Sazil stood tall, fist raised. "Even friends can't make me disobey orders. I'm Navy—I follow commands!"
What does friendship matter? The Navy has countless friends. Criminals still get arrested. Two separate matters.
At worst, he'd apologize to York later.
Hmm? Why should I apologize?
Sazil tilted his head, something seeming to break in his eyes.
Staring at the unconscious York, he spat, "Since when did I agree to be your friend? Hmph! I, a proud Navy Commander, won't be friends with someone who exploits his own people!"
That ordinary body collapsed from one punch—his ability naturally dissipated.
Sazil had neutralized one Devil Fruit user. Meanwhile, the giant eagle still dove toward the castle.
Doflamingo and Borsalino drew their swords, preparing to intercept.
Kuro waved a hand. "No killing intent detected. Hold off."
The colossal Haste Giant Eagle transformed mid-dive, shifting into human form and kneeling.
"Please spare King Edmund, Golden Lion Admiral!" He bowed low. "King Edmund merely seeks revenge, not true harm toward you!"
Kuro's gaze swept to Harvey before returning to Edmund, who still struggled uselessly against Seastone restraints.
"Craving the old man's body and soul—call that 'no harm'? What, does my death count as 'no harm'?!"
A disdainful spit. "You're not the first to covet the old man's legacy. You're not even one of the Four Emperors—why dare you chase after me?"
Edmund snarled, lipless grin grotesque. "Don't beg him, Harvey! Kill them all and take me away!"
"We can't." Harvey pressed his lips together. "We can't do that."
"Then do it anyway! Slaughter the civilians! If they won't release me, go massacre!" Edmund growled.
"I can't do that either." Harvey's voice darkened.
"Harvey! You dare defy my command?!" Edmund screamed.
"Yes."
Harvey rose, facing Edmund. "Your Majesty, restrained by Seastone, you cannot command my soul. Thus, this is a corrupt order. As your Minister, I reject it. Your Majesty... remember who you once were—a king who sought prosperity for his people. Can you not let go of hatred after so many years?"
Kuro waved a dismissive hand. "No time to listen to your lectures. If you won't interfere, scram. I've got prisoners to transport and reports to file."
