Chapter 1125: Confrontation
Chapter 1125: Confrontation
Morgan Sunfire led a large group, flying at the forefront with an expressionless face. His demeanor was somber, but there was a faint sense of determination in his every move.
With the timing, location, and support all on his side, this throne was as good as his!
Lance followed closely behind Morgan Sunfire, his face as grim as the stormy sky. He noticed Manina's gaze but dared not meet it.
Manina had been truly good to him! Not only had Manina recognized his talents, but he had treated Lance like a son, never keeping anything from him, big or small.
Now, for his brother Rambor, Lance had to join Morgan Sunfire in seizing power. He felt guilty, which made it even harder for him to face Manina.
Alongside Morgan Sunfire and Lance were dozens of people in white robes, all members of the Student Association. The students had been shocked to learn that Morgan Sunfire was planning a rebellion. Although they had long known that Morgan Sunfire had ulterior motives (students returning to their home planet were usually those who had not fared well in the Saint Silver Federation, unlike Morgan Sunfire, who had done exceptionally well and still chose to return), they never expected him to go this far!
Initially, none of the students intended to help Morgan Sunfire seize the throne. After all, there was no benefit for them in doing so. However, once they learned that Morgan Sunfire had the support of two peak gods, Plante and Manina III, they didn't think twice and followed en masse.
In their view, with two peak gods against a seventh-rank upper, the outcome was already decided!
Morgan's father had no chance of turning the tide. They were just here to go through the motions and support the new emperor's ascension.
But to their surprise, Manina seemed unusually calm?
...
Morgan Sunfire led his group in a grand procession, stopping about twenty meters in front of Manina. Despite the large crowd, Manina remained remarkably composed.
Manina had already seen through the essence of this struggle. On the surface, it was his son Morgan trying to seize the throne, but in reality, it was a battle between two powerful figures: Emperor Sin of the Zhou Dynasty and Dak.
The outcome of this struggle would not be decided by whether Morgan seized the throne or Manina repelled him. Instead, it was more likely that these two powerful figures would bring their hidden conflict into the open.
The exact course of events was still unknown. It all depended on which side had the stronger backing.
...
As Manina's head of the guard, Monte Lohr was exceptionally shocked, though not just by the situation but by his own lack of knowledge.
But he had no time to be shocked. Seeing the group of powerful figures land, even a fool would know they were here to force a confrontation! No wonder the Emperor had been keeping the guard close to him recently!
Out of professional instinct, Monte Lohr immediately ordered the guard to form a protective formation around the Emperor.
Then, he took a few large steps toward Morgan Sunfire and shouted, "Prince Morgan, Commander Lance, and the esteemed members of the Student Association, why have you suddenly come to the front lines? Why were we not informed beforehand?"
At the same time, he fixed his gaze on Lance, "Commander Lance, didn't you say your father was gravely ill? Why are you here?"
Monte Lorel recalled how just moments ago, His Majesty had asked him, "Monte, do you know why it's you talking to me today and not Lance?"
Only now did he understand the meaning behind His Majesty's words—Lance was a traitor! This realization only fueled his anger even more.
Lance turned his head to the side, avoiding a direct response to Monte Lorel's question.
Just as Monte Lorel was about to continue his angry questioning, Manina quietly approached him and patted his shoulder.
"Alright, Monte," Manina's voice remained calm. "You don't need to worry about what happens next. Just stand to the side and watch."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
Monte Lorel had no choice but to comply and stepped back.
But now he was even more confused!
Why would Prince Morgan suddenly stage a coup? His Majesty had already indicated that he would pass the throne to him. Was it really that urgent?
...
After calming Monte Lorel, Manina stood with his hands behind his back, facing Prince Morgan directly.
He spoke in a gentle tone, "Morgan, weren't you infected with the 'Defeated One's Brand'? How come you show no symptoms at all?"
People infected with the 'Defeated One's Brand' often appeared lost, fearful, and helpless, with these emotions clearly visible on their faces. But Morgan showed none of these signs.
Morgan was also surprised by his father's calm and gentle demeanor. In his mind, his father should have been furious, shocked, and incredulous.
Could it be that his father already knew about his plan to rebel? Or even that he had joined the Dark Energy Rebellion?
Given the time he had, Morgan decided to observe the situation.
He met his father Manina's gaze and replied stiffly, "Father, I was never infected with the 'Defeated One's Brand.' I lied to you when I said I was infected."
Before Manina could respond, Monte Lorel couldn't help but exclaim in shock, "What?! Your Highness, you weren't infected with the 'Defeated One's Brand'?!"
That would mean—Prince Morgan had already planned this coup when he claimed to be infected with the 'Defeated One's Brand.'
Hearing Morgan's answer, Manina remained unperturbed.
Under normal circumstances, he would have been as shocked as Monte Lorel.
But he had already been shocked when Emperor Xin appeared earlier, so he was now immune to any further surprises.
Manina continued in his gentle tone, "Since you lied to me, you must have had a reason. What you want is my throne, isn't it?"
"That's right, your throne! But Father... please allow me to call you Father one last time, you already knew, didn't you?"
Now it was Morgan's turn to be suspicious. How did his father know about his plans to seize the throne?
His plan had no major flaws. Who could have revealed it?
Lance? Impossible.
Who else could it be?
Manina did not answer Morgan's question.
Instead, he turned his gaze to Lance, who was standing beside Morgan, and said earnestly, "Lance, my foolish child, you've been used!"
"Your Majesty, I was willing to be used," Lance knelt in the air before Manina, his expression serious. "Thank you for your years of guidance, but to save my brother, Lance, I had no choice! I hope you can understand."
