Chapter 1124: Prophecy Man
Chapter 1124: Prophecy Man
“He seems a bit disobedient, King,” a man with a V-shaped grin remarked, his hands forming pistol shapes by extending thumbs and index fingers. Crossing them over his right eye like a viewfinder, he aimed at Kuro.
“Let me make you behave for a moment!”
As he spoke, his eyes snapped shut.
Instinctively, Kuro felt a chill and vanished in a blur, leaving behind a faint afterimage.
The statue behind him was struck by that eye-snap—but nothing happened.
Kuro landed aside, glancing at the undamaged statue with a frown.
“I’m Richard,” the grinning man lowered his hands. “I ate the Photo Photo Devil Fruit, becoming the ‘Photo Man.’ Once I capture you in my lens, you’ll freeze like a photograph.”
Kuro inwardly cursed.
Another Paramecia-type Devil Fruit user.
And a Rules-type at that! Among Paramecias, ordinary ones merely alter body forms, while advanced ones create things. But the most troublesome are these bizarre, unpredictable Rules-types.
They seem harmless until their abilities strike—catch you off guard, and you’re done.
Five down, two to go.
Kuro scanned Edmund’s entourage. One figure, an old man resembling a mystic, whispered into Edmund’s ear while casting sidelong glances at Kuro.
Noticing Kuro’s gaze, the old man smiled enigmatically. “This one is Veed.”
That’s it?!
Kuro’s eye twitched. Aren’t you going to explain your ability?!
How am I supposed to fight if you don’t tell me?!
The other ally didn’t disappoint. With hair swept back like an explosive wave, the man exhaled deeply, puffing his chest before unleashing a thunderous roar.
“Aaaaahhhh!!”
The sonic blast made the entire hall tremble.
After holding the note for several seconds, he grinned. “I’m Blumer!”
“I know,” Kuro interrupted. “You’re the Sound Wave Human, right? You ate the Sound Wave Devil Fruit.”
Blumer blinked. “No. I ate the Song Song Devil Fruit – Dissonant Melody Form, becoming the ‘Off-Key Man.’ I was just singing!”
Kuro’s forehead pulsed with a blue vein. “Singing?! That was a screech! Where’s the melody?! Why does singing need a tune anyway? Can’t I make my own?!”
“What’s wrong with my style?!” Blumer shot back, ducking behind Hansa the Meat Mountain. “If you don’t like it, fight me! Otherwise, I’ll keep singing!”
Kuro rubbed his temples, avoiding further argument with this apparent lunatic. He turned to Edmund. “What do you want? My patience is thin—right now, I’d rather kill you!”
“Naturally. But I’m immortal,” Edmund smiled serenely. “This is the power of my Seven. Outside, I have even more Devil Fruit users. All collected over the years. My demand is simple: serve me, surrender your soul, become my ultimate blade. I’ll grant you armies of Devil Fruit users and my Kingdom’s forces. Together, we’ll march on Mariejois, drag the World Nobles down, and teach this world true fear.”
“Sorry, not interested. You’re asking a Navy officer this?” Kuro scoffed, lighting a cigar. “The Navy’s never been a lapdog for nobles.”
“A shame. Then there’s only one option left.” Edmund’s noble smile never wavered. “Give me your body. As you’ve seen, I have exchange abilities. Transfer my soul into your body, and I’ll inherit your strength and powers. You won’t die, of course.”
He chuckled softly. “I have a dog without a name. Maybe it’ll be called Kuro?”
Kuro’s expression froze. In a flash, he vanished—but George, the charging warrior, had already lunged, colliding with the afterimage Kuro left behind.
The collision passed through the illusion harmlessly.
“Reflection!” Hansa the Meat Mountain roared, throwing his bulk to block everyone’s path.
“You think I’d attack you directly?” Kuro’s voice echoed behind Hansa. His Haki-infused hand shot toward Maros—the most dangerous target. Escaping this sealed space was priority.
Whether his Heavenly Treasure Vault or Autumn Water, both were useless here. If space itself could be manipulated, weapons were meaningless. Even summoning the Heavenly Treasure Vault wouldn’t work until Maros fell.
Destroy him first!
Suddenly, Veed, the mystic, spoke. “Hansa will intercept Kuro’s attack on Maros.”
As the words left his mouth, Hansa—who had been bypassed—suddenly accelerated. Moving with eerie speed, he inserted himself between Kuro and Maros, stretching the distance.
Kuro’s strike slammed into Hansa’s body.
A counterforce rebounded through Kuro’s arm.
Frowning, he vanished again, dodging Kayla’s ambush from behind.
Floating above the banquet hall, Kuro glared at Veed.
Veed chuckled. “I ate the Prophecy Devil Fruit. My words always come true.”
“Then tell him not to move!” Richard shouted. “He’s too slippery. I can’t freeze him, and the King can’t touch him either!”
Veed shook his head. “No. He’s too strong. My prophecy ability won’t work unless he’s weakened.”
