Chapter 112: The Fire Shadow and the Lightning Shadow [1020]
Chapter 112: The Fire Shadow and the Lightning Shadow [1020]
Four days later.
Feng Ye and Tsunade arrived at the border frontline between the Land of Fire and the Land of Lightning.
What slightly surprised Feng Ye was that he had assumed Tsunade would be the overall commander here, with each of the Three Ninjas leading one of the three battlefields. Yet, to his surprise, Hiruzen Sarutobi had come in person.
"Tsunade, Feng Ye, you're here," Hiruzen said, donning his armor with a touch of the Sengoku era style as he sat in the central tent. He nodded at Tsunade and Feng Ye, gesturing for them to take a seat beside him.
Several other ninjas were present in the tent, mostly consisting of the elite jonin within the village. Among them was Fugaku Uchiha, the current head of the Uchiha clan.
The scale of this war had made the major clans aware of its severity. Usually, they would retain their strength, but in this situation, they had no choice but to commit their full power alongside Konoha, for their own survival was at stake if Konoha fell.
Tsunade sat to Hiruzen's right, with Feng Ye seated at Tsunade's right.
The seating arrangement generally reflected one's standing within Konoha. Additionally, as a jonin directly under the Fire Shadow and with his unique status as the 'Hero of Konoha', none of the elite jonin or clan leaders present objected to Feng Ye's position.
However, the gazes directed at Feng Ye held traces of strangeness. After all, at not even eleven years old, he had become a powerful ninja renowned throughout the ninja world—a rare occurrence in the history of ninjas.
"According to intelligence, the Cloud Ninja Village is led by the Third Raikage himself," Hiruzen said in a deep voice, relaying the information they had gathered about the Cloud ninjas. "The ninjas we need to be wary of include the Third Raikage's son and his partner, known as the AB Combo..."
Upon hearing this information, Feng Ye pondered briefly before understanding why Hiruzen had personally rushed to this battlefield.
Compared to the scheming Third Tsuchikage, the Cloud Ninja Village, known for their impetuous behavior, was the most dangerous village in this war. It was challenging to ensure that they wouldn't initiate a decisive battle.
The strategy for this war was to prolong it.
The longer it dragged on, the more advantageous it would be for Konoha.
If the Third Raikage judged that Konoha's fighting force was insufficient and that they could easily defeat Konoha even if they initiated a full-scale war, he likely wouldn't hesitate to launch an all-out attack, considering the other ninja villages' consumption.
In that case, having only Tsunade as the commander on this front might not be enough to hold them back. Hence, the Fire Shadow himself had come to the frontline to oversee the situation, intending to deter the Cloud ninjas and exert pressure on them, making them think twice before launching a full assault.
"It looks like Orochimaru and Danzo will be facing the Stone Ninja Village," Feng Ye mused. "With their cunning, they'll probably give the Third Tsuchikage a hard time... I doubt Onoki will easily deploy the jinchuriki, and even if he does, Might Guy is there to counter them."
"As for the Mist Ninja Village, the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist are powerful, with the stronger ones being official members of the Akatsuki," he continued. "Undoubtedly, they are at the Kage level, and even the weaker ones are elite jonin. But with Minato Namikaze's presence, we shouldn't have much to worry about."
"That leaves the Cloud Ninja Village as the strongest..."
Feng Ye's thoughts turned inward.
When it came to the Cloud ninjas' combat strength, the first was the Third Raikage, a monstrous existence capable of taking on ten thousand enemies alone. Next were the 'Fourth Raikage' and 'Killer B', both incredibly powerful Kages, especially Killer B.
If the enemy launched a large-scale offensive, Hiruzen Sarutobi could, at most, hold off the Third Raikage, while Tsunade would be able to match Yuuki. That would leave the Fourth Raikage and Killer B for Feng Ye to deal with.
This was a bit tricky.
He needed to open the fifth gate of the Eight Inner Gates as soon as possible.
Once the fifth gate of the Eight Inner Gates was opened, and with his full power unleashed, the Third Raikage's defense probably wouldn't be able to withstand him, and he could also fiercely battle a fully transformed Killer B!
While cultivating medical ninjutsu and training his chakra control, Feng Ye had not slackened in his practice of the Eight Inner Gates, but he was still somewhat away from reaching the fifth gate.
According to his judgment, he would need about another month of cultivation before he could open the fifth gate.
As Feng Ye pondered, Hiruzen Sarutobi continued his explanations and deployments. "In any case, avoid large-scale engagements with the Cloud Ninjas. If you encounter formidable ninjas in small-scale skirmishes, try to avoid them as well... The first phase should focus on intelligence warfare."
"The Cloud Ninjas won't easily launch an all-out attack before gathering sufficient intelligence, so our strategy is to employ delaying tactics as much as possible during the intelligence war." Hiruzen's voice carried a sense of gravity.
He was well aware of the severity of the situation. Once the Cloud Ninjas launched a full-scale attack, even with his own strength, along with Tsunade and Feng Ye, they might not be able to withstand the onslaught of an entire village.
Even if they managed to hold them off, the losses would undoubtedly be catastrophic, indirectly affecting the situation in other battlefields and potentially causing the collapse of this war.
After a moment, Hiruzen Sarutobi finished briefing everyone on the various aspects of the situation, indicating that they could leave. Finally, he called out to Feng Ye, asking him to stay back.
Upon seeing this, Tsunade hesitated for a moment before sitting down again. She didn't mind if it were anyone else, but since Hiruzen had specifically asked Feng Ye to stay, she couldn't just leave.
She was well aware of Feng Ye's situation.
Although he possessed tremendous combat power, it relied on a forbidden technique that couldn't be used lightly.
Seeing Tsunade sit down again, a hint of helplessness flashed in Hiruzen Sarutobi's eyes. He didn't ask her to leave and instead turned directly to Feng Ye, offering a string of praises for his performance and achievements in the two battlefields.
Feng Ye no longer felt much fear towards Hiruzen, especially with Tsunade by his side. He calmly responded, "...I'm just doing what I should."
Hiruzen probed further, but with Tsunade by their side, he didn't press the matter any deeper. After all, dealing with the Cloud Ninjas was the top priority at the moment, and Feng Ye's issues weren't something they needed to discuss right away. As long as Feng Ye remained on Konoha's side, that was enough for now.
Even if Feng Ye harbored resentment towards the Konoha higher-ups due to the White Fang incident, it would have to be set aside for the time being.
During this period, even the major clans would temporarily set aside their differences.
