Chapter 112: Run, There's a Wolf! (First Update)
Chapter 112: Run, There's a Wolf! (First Update)
Every night, Jerry rode his flying broom through New York, becoming intimately familiar with the city.
So when he stepped out of the alley, he immediately recognized that he was on a street in New York's Manhattan.
However, this street seemed to have some differences in certain details compared to the one in the Main World's New York.
But the iconic buildings were still the same.
"Excuse me, is this New York?"
He stopped a passing blonde girl and asked her politely.
The girl, who looked about eighteen or nineteen, wore a red scarf, a charcoal-gray coat, and fishnet stockings, and seemed like a college student.
She gave the eleven- or twelve-year-old boy a curious look, then bent down and replied as gently as she could:
"Yes, this is New York. Are you lost, little boy? It's very late for you to be out alone. Do you need me to call the police for you?"
"No, thank you, ma'am. Could you also tell me what year it is?"
Jerry hadn't expected to find such a kind person so easily.
"Of course, it's 2010!"
The blonde girl's puzzled expression deepened.
"It's 2010. The timeline doesn't match. This must not be the same world!"
Jerry breathed a sigh of relief. The Main World wasn't in 2010. He pulled a few dollar bills from his pocket and handed them to the girl:
"Oh, thank you. This is a small token of my appreciation!"
The girl stared at the dollar bills in her hand, completely taken aback.
What was this about? Why give money just for asking directions? It was so strange, making her feel like a streetwalker.
"Hey, where did he go?"
She looked in the direction the boy had gone, only to find that he had vanished without a trace.
A shiver ran down her spine as she looked at the nearly deserted street at midnight. She hurried home as quickly as she could.
Above New York, Jerry, cloaked in a disguise charm and riding his flying broom, carefully observed the darker alleys below. Soon, he found his target:
"Sure enough, no matter which world it is, crime is always a part of New York!"
A short while later, in an alley, Jerry found a phone in the pocket of a robber he had put to sleep with a sleeping charm. He began browsing the internet on the phone.
In a modern city, the fastest way to understand the world was to go online.
First, he was certain that Magic existed in this world, as the Panel's function description clearly stated that the Second Minor World was a Magic world.
If Magic existed, there had to be some traces of it. With the advanced technology of this world, he might quickly find some hints about mages in the news.
An hour later.
"What the heck? How can everything be so normal?"
Jerry put away his phone, feeling speechless. The news was all ordinary, with no trace of Magic.
Even the Main World had some unusual technological phenomena, but this world seemed as normal as could be, just like his previous life.
After a moment's thought, since he couldn't find anything in the news, he decided to search on his own.
He mounted his flying broom and activated Superman Mode. Jerry planned to spend the night exploring New York, hoping to find some clues about Magic.
"Huh, how can there be wolves in this city?"
However, just as he began his patrol, in less than five minutes, Jerry noticed five strong gray wolves ferociously chasing a curly-haired young man on a nearby street.
When something unusual happens, it's usually a sign of something sinister. Jerry wasn't afraid of trouble; he was more afraid of finding none, which would waste the entire week he had planned.
With a burst of speed, Jerry rode his flying broom down.
Landing and putting away his flying broom, Jerry dispelled his invisibility spell and walked toward the curly-haired young man.
"Kid, run! There are wolves behind you!"
The curly-haired young man, seeing a boy appear on the empty street, immediately started running and shouted for Jerry to run.
Seeing that Jerry didn't budge, the curly-haired young man helplessly grabbed the lid of a nearby public trash can and stood in front of Jerry, ready to face the gray wolves.
"Looks like a good guy!"
Jerry, seeing the curly-haired young man holding the trash can lid and trembling like a sieve, couldn't help but respect him a bit more.
"Kid, those aren't dogs. They're wolves, and they eat people. While I'm holding them off, you run!"
The curly-haired young man waved the trash can lid and urgently shouted to Jerry, who was behind him.
The five strong gray wolves, seeing the curly-haired young man stop, immediately bared their teeth and lunged at him.
"Unerring Arrow!"
Jerry waved his wand, and instantly, a dozen arrows appeared out of thin air and shot toward the gray wolves.
"Aaah!"
With several blood-curdling screams, the five gray wolves instantly transformed into five pages with images of gray wolves.
Seeing the wolves turn into pages, Jerry's eyes lit up.
Because this unusual phenomenon was likely a type of Magic he had never seen before.
"Are you a Magic user too?"
The curly-haired young man, seeing Jerry wave a wooden stick and shoot a dozen arrows, immediately exclaimed in surprise.
"Too? So you've seen other Magic users!"
Jerry turned to look at the curly-haired young man.
The curly-haired young man pointed to a middle-aged, fat man in the distance, wearing a top hat and holding a staff with a blue gem, who was slowly approaching.
"He's a Magic user. Those wolves were his creation, but he's not a good guy. We'd better escape before it's too late!"
"I think you're right, but he doesn't seem to want us to escape!"
Jerry, currently in Superman Mode, also noticed the approaching middle-aged man.
Originally, he planned to avoid conflict with the Magic users in this world until he understood their capabilities better.
However, the man opposite clearly had no intention of giving him a chance to explain. Upon seeing Jerry use the Arrow Charm to save the curly-haired young man, he immediately waved his staff, and a ball of fire shot toward Jerry and the curly-haired young man.
"Phantom Shield!"
Seeing the fire approaching, Jerry grabbed the plastic trash can lid from the curly-haired young man and cast a Hardening Charm on it to block the flames.
The middle-aged man, seeing this, lifted his coat and waved his staff. Four daggers hidden under his coat instantly flew toward Jerry and the curly-haired young man.
Moreover, the trajectory of the daggers seemed controlled by the middle-aged man. They suddenly changed direction in mid-air, skillfully dodging the hardened trash can lid and aimed at Jerry and the curly-haired young man from both sides.
