Chapter 112: Gift Giving (Part Five)
Chapter 112: Gift Giving (Part Five)
A hundred sets of Iron Armor Formations, and in just a little over a month, Mo Hua had finished drawing them all?
Elder Yu furrowed his brows, deep in thought.
Upon seeing his father's expression, Yu Chenyi asked, "Father, what's wrong?"
Elder Yu handed the storage bag to his son. "Count them."
Yu Chenyi took the bag and swept it with his spiritual sense. He counted the contents once, then twice, and then he couldn't help but count again...
After a moment, his mouth also dropped open in surprise. "Th-These are all done?"
Elder Yu glared at him. "Can't you count?"
Yu Chenyi smiled awkwardly and then asked, "D-Did he draw all these by himself?"
Elder Yu opened one of the sets and compared the Iron Armor Formations. Although some of the brushstrokes were a bit sloppy, they captured the essence and were completed in one go. They were indeed the work of a single person.
The father and son duo looked at each other, at a loss for words.
"This son of Mo Shan... he's not some little monster, is he?" Yu Chenyi muttered.
Elder Yu slapped him on the head. "What are you talking about?"
Rubbing his head, Yu Chenyi mumbled, "I'm just saying."
Elder Yu gave him a stern look.
After a moment's thought, Yu Chenyi added, "Unless someone else helped him draw them."
"Who would help him?" Elder Yu huffed. "I'm a Foundation Establishment cultivator, and even when I ask around, no one is willing to help me draw formations."
Just thinking about it made Elder Yu angry. Of course, it wasn't that others were unwilling to help; it was just that the price he offered was too low.
"If he really did draw these himself, never mind the other things. The spiritual sense exhaustion must have been significant. Mo Hua is only at the fifth layer of Qi Refining, and he's still young..."
"Yes," Elder Yu sighed. Suddenly feeling a twinge of guilt, he instructed, "Go and gather all the nourishing pills and spiritual objects we have at home. I'm going to pay a visit to Mo Shan's family."
Yu Chenyi hesitated, wanting to say something but stopping himself.
"If you have something to say, then say it!" Elder Yu snapped.
Yu Chenyi spoke softly, "We don't have that many nourishing pills at home..."
"Bring whatever we have!"
"But..."
Elder Yu's face darkened.
Yu Chenyi dared not say another word. He could only gather the pills, spiritual grasses, and fungi that nourished spiritual power or blood qi, wrap them in parchment, and place them in a storage bag, which he then handed to Elder Yu.
Elder Yu took the bag and turned to leave, but then he turned back and ordered, "You're coming with me."
"Me? What for?" Yu Chenyi asked, perplexed.
"If Mo Hua truly grows up to become a formidable formation master, it will be a blessing for us demon hunters. I want you to come along so you can get to know him. It will be easier to ask for favors in the future," Elder Yu explained.
As a ninth-layer Qi Refining demon hunter, Yu Chenyi wasn't thrilled about the idea of going to see a child, but seeing his father's stern expression, he could only obediently agree.
Elder Yu, accompanied by his son, arrived at Mo Shan's house.
Mo Shan was astonished to see Elder Yu visiting in person, and even more so to see Yu Chenyi with him. He wondered if something major had happened, and his expression turned solemn.
Elder Yu waved his hand dismissively. "It's nothing serious. I just came to see Mo Hua. You carry on with your work."
Mo Shan was taken aback but then realized it must be about the formations. He relaxed a little.
Mo Hua was also surprised to see Elder Yu.
He had thought that Elder Yu might be upset about the slow progress of the formations and had come to reprimand him.
But that didn't seem likely either. After all, Elder Yu was a respected Foundation Establishment cultivator, and surely his temperament wouldn't be so petty...
"Elder Yu, are you looking for me?" Mo Hua asked softly.
Elder Yu wasn't sure how to broach the subject, so he coughed and asked, "That formation... it must have taken you quite some time to draw, right?"
Mo Hua's heart tightened.
Elder Yu and Yu Chenyi exchanged a glance, their eyes widening in unison.
"He really did draw them himself!" Yu Chenyi exclaimed.
A hundred sets of the Six Paths Formation's Iron Armor Formation, and this young boy, barely in his teens, could draw two or three sets a day! All while not neglecting his cultivation practice!
The father and son duo were inwardly astonished, their minds racing with thoughts, but they tried their best to maintain calm expressions.
"Not slow at all!" Elder Yu quickly reassured, "In fact, you finished much faster than I expected."
Initially, Elder Yu had thought that Mo Hua would be doing well if he could complete one set per day, and even then, it would take him three months to finish, falling short of the hundred sets requested. But now, Mo Hua's speed far exceeded his expectations. What a talented youth!
Elder Yu's heart was filled with joy, and he took out a storage bag, speaking in a gentle and affectionate tone, "I brought you some nourishing pills, spiritual objects, and a few spiritual meats. They aren't particularly precious, so please accept them without worry..."
Yu Chenyi stood by, his eyes wide as saucers. He had never seen his father speak to anyone with such warmth and kindness.
It was as if his father's body had been hijacked by someone else...
A shiver ran down Yu Chenyi's spine, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of unease.
"How can I accept such a generous gift..." Mo Hua politely refused, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Elder Yu deliberately put on a stern face, "I'm giving these to you, so just take them!"
Mo Hua had no choice but to accept, and Elder Yu finally nodded in satisfaction. He then pulled Yu Chenyi forward and introduced him, "This is your Uncle Yu. From now on, if you encounter any troubles, go to him for help. Don't be shy about asking."
Yu Chenyi felt his cheeks burning as he found himself under the gaze of Mo Hua's pitch-black, sparkling eyes. He managed a forced smile and echoed his father's words, "Yes, if you ever need help, just come to me, your Uncle Yu. Don't hesitate to ask."
Yu Chenyi felt a bit tongue-tied under Mo Hua's intense stare, so he could only repeat what his father had said.
Elder Yu gave his son a slightly exasperated look, thinking, 'This foolish son of mine, can't even string a proper sentence together!'
"Thank you, Elder Yu! And thank you, Uncle Yu!" Mo Hua expressed his gratitude with a sincere bow.
Elder Yu nodded contentedly and patted Mo Hua's small shoulder. "Focus on your cultivation and formation studies. We won't disturb you further."
With that, Elder Yu and Yu Chenyi took their leave.
Initially, Mo Hua had been worried that Elder Yu would be upset about the delay in completing the formations. But now, seeing that Elder Yu not only didn't mind but also seemed pleased, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Mo Hua happily presented the gifts he received from Elder Yu to his father, Mo Shan.
"Dad, Elder Yu gave me these. You should keep them for now."
Mo Shan nodded and took the storage bag, examining its contents briefly before his eyes widened in surprise. "Who gave you these?"
"Elder Yu," Mo Hua replied, confused by his father's reaction.
"Elder Yu?" Mo Shan furrowed his brows, "The Elder Yu who just came by?"
"Yeah, who else could it be? There's only one Elder Yu in Transcendent City, right?" Mo Hua asked, equally puzzled.
Mo Shan was stunned. That Elder Yu, known for his bad temper, stern demeanor, and stinginess, had actually given gifts? And to a child, no less!
Mo Shan was at a loss for words, overwhelmed by the unexpected gesture.
