Chapter 1110: Revenge
Chapter 1110: Revenge
The first day of the Lucky Cup went off without a hitch.
In terms of maintaining the historical timeline, Youxuan felt that it was a resounding success. Even the unexpected events aligned with the history he knew.
For instance, the Security Maintenance Bureau had invited a famous Duelist known as the Reaper. However, this Duelist was intercepted en route.
A Duelist named Skeleton Flame secretly knocked out the Reaper, donned the latter's coat, and entered the tournament under a false name. His motive was to challenge Jack, who bore the title of King, after failing in his previous attempt. Unfortunately, he didn't receive an invitation to the Lucky Cup.
Naturally, he was eliminated by Yusei Fudo, just as in the original timeline.
However, Youxuan found Skeleton Flame's High-Speed Counter Deck quite intriguing.
Skeleton Flame's Deck was an original creation for the anime, specifically designed for Turbo Duels.
In Turbo Duels, the key difference from traditional Duels is the introduction of the "High-Speed Counter" system. Each player gains one High-Speed Counter automatically each turn. In Turbo Duels, traditional Spell Cards cannot be used; only Turbo Duel-specific "High-Speed Spells" are allowed.
Using High-Speed Spells requires the corresponding High-Speed Counters as costs.
Skeleton Flame's Deck was designed to rapidly accumulate High-Speed Counters, creating a cost disparity that allowed him to leverage High-Speed Spells to his advantage.
Although he lost, Youxuan saw potential in this Deck.
He believed that Skeleton Flame's Deck had yet to reach its optimal form. In the later stages of 5D's, the rules for Turbo Duels were updated, and "High-Speed World 2" became the default field.
High-Speed World 2 introduced a crucial base effect that the first version lacked. In High-Speed World 2, a rider can remove four High-Speed Counters from their own side to reveal a High-Speed Spell from their hand. Each revealed spell deals 800 damage to the opponent.
Unfortunately, Skeleton Flame never got a chance to shine in the later stages. However, Youxuan thought that if he combined a lockdown strategy with rapid High-Speed Counter accumulation and relied solely on the effects of High-Speed World 2 to deal damage, it could be a viable strategy.
Moreover, High-Speed World 2 is a rule-based field, meaning it cannot be removed or destroyed, making it an ideal tool for dealing damage.
Additionally, the knight who faced Shizukanae in the first round suffered the wrath of the Rogue Witch, looking even more battered than in the original series.
Fortunately, this knight, who seemed to have a bit of a delusional streak, wore heavy golden armor and a helmet. Shizukanae's psychokinesis dealt physical damage, unlike the mental attacks in Darkness Duels, so the armor provided significant protection.
Although the knight was eventually carried to the medical room, he was not seriously injured.
This incident further emphasized the importance of wearing armor and a helmet when playing Yu-Gi-Oh!, as it could be quite dangerous otherwise.
The first day of the tournament concluded, and the spectators dispersed. The participants were assigned their respective resting areas.
Youxuan sat in his office, rewatching the day's footage and reviewing the data collected by Kaibacorp's Perpetual Motion Research Institute. He tapped his fingers lightly on the desk.
"Hmm?"
Youxuan suddenly furrowed his brow, speaking to himself.
"Did you feel that?"
After a moment of silence, the vampire noblewoman appeared beside him, still carrying her parasol, which seemed to be her constant companion.
"The power of Darkness, the killing intent... it seems to be directed here."
"Provocation, directed at us, huh."
Youxuan closed the screen and stood up from his seat.
"Interesting."
Leaving the Security Maintenance Bureau, Youxuan made his way to the Duel arena. It was the middle of the night, and the audience and participants had all dispersed. The dark and empty arena was devoid of any life.
But there was a D-Wheel there.
No, calling it a D-Wheel might be a bit of a stretch. There was hardly anything in the world as massive as that D-Wheel, with a demonic skull at its center. The D-Wheel was triangular, supported by three enormous tires, resembling a giant war machine.
Youxuan recognized the D-Wheel. Its owner was one of the missing participants in the Lucky Cup.
At that moment, the owner of the D-Wheel emerged from the darkness, exuding an aura of death. His eyes were as dark as those of the dead, and his face bore the dark purple markings of a Dark Signer.
"Boma."
Youxuan said calmly.
"I sent someone to invite you to the Lucky Cup, but my people couldn't find you anywhere."
He narrowed his eyes slightly and continued.
"I never expected you to be dead."
Yes, Boma had died and been resurrected, chosen to become a Dark Signer.
In the original story, Boma was one of the Dark Signers, but that was supposed to happen after the Lucky Cup arc.
History had once again taken a different turn.
"Godwin!" Boma shouted angrily, "I have risen from the depths of hell to seek my revenge!"
Youxuan sighed softly.
Alright, by assuming Godwin's identity, he had gained the convenience of being an officer, along with a wealth of resources and cards. However, it seemed he had also taken on some of Godwin's karma.
But he knew that, in the case of Boma, Godwin was actually innocent. Boma believed that Godwin had conducted experiments in his hometown to find a way to awaken the Red Dragon and harness its power, leading to the complete annihilation of his village, with no survivors from the elderly to the young.
Thus, Boma had come with fury to seek revenge on Godwin.
But in reality, the one who had wiped out Boma's family was neither the Red Dragon nor Godwin, but the Dark Signers and the Earthbound Gods, the very forces he had aligned himself with. Boma, however, was unaware of this and had been manipulated by the Dark Signers.
Youxuan: "Well, it seems that no matter what I explain, you won't listen."
"I won't believe your smooth talk, Godwin!" Boma shouted, "Only with your blood can I honor my siblings who were brutally murdered!"
"Alright, if you insist. Then I'll accompany you for a ride."
Ride Duel.
This was probably Youxuan's first true Ride Duel. The special rules for Ride Duels, racing in the High-Speed World arena, allowed only the use of High-Speed Spells.
Youxuan mounted his D-Wheel and lined up at the starting line with Boma.
Boma revved the throttle, and the massive D-Wheel roared to life.
"Duel!" (x2)
[Youxuan, LP 4000]
[Boma, LP 4000]
The D-Wheel was enormous, and its power was equally impressive. Boma's war machine took the lead, thundering down the track and taking the first turn.
"I'll start the attack, Draw!"
Boma drew a card, his dark eyes quickly scanning his hand before selecting one.
"I summon 'Magical Reactor · Assault Type' in Defense Position!"
A red metal mech appeared on Boma's field, and a metallic dragon's head emerged from the mech.
[Magical Reactor · Assault Type, Defense 900]
"Then I set three cards in my back row, and my turn ends!"
Boma waved his hand angrily.
"Through the ritual of the Duel, I will offer your soul and blood as a sacrifice!"
