Chapter 111: Frost-Covered Mountain
Chapter 111: Frost-Covered Mountain
Naoki promptly paid the bill.
Keli then directed a Machamp to move the power generator, loading it onto the truck.
Keli climbed into the truck and poked her head out the window from the driver's seat. "You head back first, I'll follow right behind you!" she shouted.
"Okay!" Naoki replied, then mounted his Motostoke Moto-X and rode back to the ranch.
Soon after, Keli arrived as well.
The Machamp unloaded the generator from the truck, and Keli surveyed the area before asking, "Where do you want to install it? Ideally, it should be somewhere we can connect directly to the main power source."
Naoki led the way, lifting his foot to guide her. "Follow me!"
He intended to set up the generator in the back storeroom, where the house's electrical box was located.
As it turned out, Keli was not only a talented architect but also an exceptional electrician.
Naoki's face betrayed his surprise as he watched her skillfully install the generator and connect the wires.
"I didn't expect you to have this skill as well," he remarked.
Keli explained, "It's because I've been living on my own since I was little. I picked up a lot of skills along the way."
Naoki paused for a moment. "What about your parents?"
Keli shrugged. "They passed away twenty years ago. They used to be carpenters in town, so I naturally took over their work when I grew up."
Naoki opened his mouth to speak, offering an apology. "I'm sorry."
But Keli remained unfazed. "Birth, aging, sickness, and death—these are the natural ways of life. There's no need to apologize for such things."
"I'm doing well now," she continued. "I run a shop with my own two hands, and I have Machamp to help me. I think that if my parents were still alive, they would be proud of me. Their daughter is so capable!"
Naoki was taken aback for a moment, then he expressed his admiration. "Yes, you are incredible!"
Keli smiled, and once the generator installation was complete, she stood up and stepped outside, making her way into the cave where the mushrooms were cultivated.
Looking around at the setup, she turned to Naoki and asked, "Do you still need these mushroom cultivation trays? If not, I can recycle them for you!"
"Recycle?"
Keli nodded. "Even though they'll be cheaper than buying new ones, it'll still help you get rid of these trays that you no longer need."
Mushrooms were notoriously demanding when it came to their growing environment. With the cave transformed into an ice cave, there was no longer a suitable place for them on the ranch, and they would eventually have to be thrown away as trash.
Naoki had considered this as well, and he nodded in agreement. "Then they're yours."
Keli smiled faintly and, along with the Machamp, began moving the mushroom cultivation trays onto the truck.
After they finished loading everything, Keli retrieved her wallet from the driver's seat and handed Naoki several Pokedollars.
"See you later!" she said, and then drove off in the truck.
Naoki began tidying up, preparing to head to Frost-Covered Mountain with Golurk.
He placed the lunch he had prepared earlier in the refrigerator and instructed the Motostoke Moto-X to distribute the food to everyone at noon.
The Pokemon nodded obediently in agreement.
Seeing this, Naoki packed a cold-weather suit and some juice and milk for replenishing energy into his backpack.
The geographical environment of Frost-Covered Mountain was unique, and the temperature there would likely be very low.
He wondered if Golurk, the dragon Pokemon, would be able to withstand the cold.
Just then, Naoki suddenly remembered the first dish he had cooked after arriving in this world.
—A hot bowl of ramen.
He chopped up some scallions and prepared two fried eggs, then heated up a pot and boiled the water before adding the noodles.
He sprinkled some chopped scallions on top, laid the fried eggs on the noodles, and finally, added a few drops of sesame oil.
Soon, a hearty bowl of hot noodle soup was ready.
Naoki looked down at the bowl, and the effects of the dish appeared before him.
[Hot Noodle Soup (B+)
: A simple dish, but a wonderful choice to warm the stomach during cold winter days.
Dish Effect: Cold Resistance lv3, provides strong cold endurance, causing the body to feel warm after consumption. Duration: 6 hours.
Evaluation: Fair]
"As I thought, using all the correct ingredients and condiments has improved the dish's effect," Naoki mused to himself.
A B+ rating was a significant improvement from the original C-, and the Cold Resistance level had increased from lv1 to lv3, with the duration extending from 30 minutes to 6 hours.
"Want to give it a try?"
Naoki placed the bowl of noodles in front of Golurk.
The Pokemon sniffed at the bowl, its nose twitching as the rich aroma wafted towards it, causing it to involuntarily swallow its saliva.
"Agas?"
This bowl of noodles seemed different from the last time.
Golurk was curious, and under Naoki's gaze, it picked up the bowl and devoured both the soup and noodles.
After finishing the meal, Golurk immediately felt its body warming up.
It knew that this was the wondrous effect of the noodles.
Seeing Golurk's ravenous eating, Naoki was left speechless.
He quickly finished his own bowl of noodles and then took out two Lucky Pudding snacks from the refrigerator, one for himself and one for Golurk.
He hoped that their luck would be good today and that they would encounter the ice-type Pokemon they were seeking.
With everything prepared, Naoki mounted Golurk and set off towards Frost-Covered Mountain.
Golurk was familiar with this route, as the two of them had come here together two months ago to fish at the lake.
That place was known as Big Pot Lake, and Frost-Covered Mountain was located to the east of the lake.
Frost-Covered Mountain was the tallest peak in the Padia region, and due to its high altitude, the temperature was very low. Snowflakes constantly fell from the mountaintop, and the massive mountain range was perpetually covered in a blanket of white snow.
This unique weather pattern influenced the lifestyle of the humans living nearby.
They had even named their town Icebox Town, symbolizing the fusion of snow and soul.
Such a distinct geographical environment also fostered a very special Pokemon ecosystem on Frost-Covered Mountain.
The majority of Pokemon dwelling there were of the ice type.
Golurk was swift, and its crimson figure streaked across the sky, soon arriving at Big Pot Lake.
Naoki looked up at the distant mountain veiled in white mist and asked Golurk, "Are you afraid?"
Golurk shook its head, letting out a determined, "Agas!"
"Good, then let's proceed!"
Golurk accelerated, rushing straight towards Frost-Covered Mountain.
Its crimson form stood out starkly against the expanse of white snow and ice.
