Chapter 1108: Parallel Being
Chapter 1108: Parallel Being
A series of screeching brakes, and Youxuan's D-Wheel slowed to a stop near the Skeleton Knight.
Frog Otk, after being thoroughly beaten once, the Skeleton Knight would likely never utter such foolish words as "mere frogs" again. In his deepest nightmares, he would surely be haunted by countless frogs leaping about, each nightmare ending with the eerie croaks that would jolt him awake—assuming he ever had the chance to dream again.
This is why Youxuan believed that if a list of the most annoying Decks in the history of world champions were to be made, this one would undoubtedly rank near the top.
Of course, a Deck capable of such dominance isn't built on just one or two overpowered cards.
In fact, among the cards Youxuan used in this Duel, the Exchange Frog, which can summon the entire Deck in a single turn, is banned. The Cannon Accelerator, which can fire infinitely in a single turn, is banned. The Rebound Nightmare Light Dragon, which can return cards to the hand infinitely in a single turn, is banned. The Electronic Fishman Marksman, which can continuously revive from the Graveyard, is also banned.
The sheer number of banned cards in this world champion's Deck reveals its former glory.
Of course, the bans came later. In the real-world card game era that aligns with the current 5D's timeline, these cards were still at the peak of their power, flooding the environment, and certainly not banned.
Youxuan dismounted and walked toward the Skeleton Knight. After several attempts, he felt he had finally grasped some of the key techniques and nuances. The final impact was powerful enough to knock the Skeleton Knight's zombie horse to the ground, sending the rider flying off the saddle and tumbling onto the track.
A normal person would have surely been killed by the sheer force of that impact.
But the Skeleton Knight was far from normal. Youxuan walked slowly, and as he approached, he saw the fallen Skeleton Knight tremble, then slowly rise to a kneeling position.
Youxuan had intended to interview the first victim of a Frog Otk one-hit kill, to get their post-battle thoughts. However, upon closer inspection, the victim seemed to have gone insane, his mental state clearly unhinged.
A preliminary diagnosis might be excessive card playing.
No, that didn't seem quite right.
The Skeleton Knight was kneeling on the ground, his body occasionally convulsing, his throat emitting incomprehensible moans.
Then, he suddenly lifted his head and let out a strange cry, a mix of pain and rage. His convulsions intensified, the frequency increasing to the point where he almost seemed like a blurred shadow.
Youxuan frowned.
He had seen people driven mad by card games before, especially those who had just played against him. Their mental state being a bit off was normal. But this was something he had never seen before.
From the blurred shadow, he could almost see the Skeleton Knight's figure splitting into two.
It was as if two indistinct figures were overlapping within one body, each trying to break free. The figure on the left seemed to resemble the Skeleton Knight he had just played against, while the one on the right looked like...
Rudger Godwin?
Yes, Youxuan knew that the Skeleton Knight's true identity was Rudger Godwin, but from the manga's parallel world. However, the figure on the right, struggling and roaring, seemed to be Rudger from the anime timeline, the leader of the Signers.
What's going on here?
From this bizarre scene, it feels like two Parallel Beings from different timelines have Synched into the same body, and they are now repelling each other.
"Get out of here!"
The Skeleton Knight roared.
"Vanish now!"
On the other side, Rudger Godwin, not willing to back down, roared, "This is my world, and the one who should vanish is you!"
"Ah—ah—ah—"
Both of them bellowed simultaneously.
Then, the Skeleton Knight's body began to dissipate in the continuous tremor, turning into a black mist that was scattered by a gust of wind, disappearing without a trace.
Youxuan blinked a couple of times, staring at the vanishing black mist.
He had always thought that he had seen everything by now.
But even he had to admit, he had never seen anything like this before.
"Any ideas?"
Youxuan turned his head toward the empty space, as if talking to himself.
Of course, he was speaking to the Spirit.
Silence appeared first, shaking his head to indicate that he didn't know.
"That's one weird guy, makes me feel all uncomfortable", Marshmallow said, her soft, fluffy body curling up and shivering.
Chaos Warrior, who usually spoke little, appeared and pondered for a moment before saying, "I can sense it, like two souls from different dimensions competing and repelling each other."
He looked at Youxuan.
"Perhaps the body was already occupied by the personality of the Skeleton Knight we just encountered, but because of your recent Duel victory, the Skeleton Knight's personality was destroyed or at least weakened, allowing the suppressed personality to start vying for control again."
Youxuan murmured, "So, the other Rudger from a different timeline invaded this plane, trying to take over the body of this Parallel Being?"
It feels like something similar just happened.
He immediately thought of the original body he now occupied, Rex Goodwin.
Right, Goodwin seemed similar.
A Rex Goodwin from a future timeline, who had already been defeated, came to this time with the help of some unknown force, killed his past self, and took over the body.
It's easy to assume there's some connection between these two events.
So, could it be the same mastermind who did something similar to another major boss besides Rex Goodwin, namely Rudger?
Only this Rudger wasn't from a future timeline but from a dimension based on the 5D's manga, the Skeleton Knight.
But why would this guy do this? Just to disrupt the history of this dimension?
"Hey, are you okay?"
Marshmallow, seeing him deep in thought, nudged him with her soft, fluffy body.
"I'm fine. Well, there's not much we can do about it right now."
Youxuan shook his head, deciding to stop thinking about it for the moment.
Without more clues and information, it was just pointless speculation, and it wouldn't lead to anything meaningful.
The plan remains the same. If the goal of the mastermind is to disrupt history, he would do the opposite. If an opportunity arises, he would try to uncover the true identity of the mastermind.
As for now,
"Let's head back", Youxuan said. "The Lucky Cup is about to start."
