Chapter 1107: What Does This Have to Do with Me, a Guy with a Plunger?
Chapter 1107: What Does This Have to Do with Me, a Guy with a Plunger?
The man with crimson eyes spewed curses, swinging wildly at everyone around him, channeling his fury. The more he vented, the hotter his rage burned, his curses growing fiercer and his operation range expanding.
"You damned bastards!"
A civilian who had broken free from combat roared furiously. He rammed open a house door, dragged out torches and firecrackers, and without hesitation, lit the house he had just stormed into.
"Burn! Burn you all!!" He howled, his eyes bloodshot red.
Others who had abandoned combat were no longer content with slaughtering nearby enemies. They wanted to destroy everything—annihilate this revolting land!
"Hahahahaha!"
Brant watched the chaos with a broad smile. "How’s this? This is my strength! I don’t need combat ability—I just want revenge. Whether I’m strong or not doesn’t matter to me."
He turned to Kuro, grinning. "What’s an admiral to me? You can’t stop me. I don’t want to be One Piece or a strong man. I just want this whole mob dead!"
"You damned..."
Kuro’s face darkened. "Are you some kind of monster? Do you want these people dead so badly?!"
"Hahaha! Come kill me then!"
As the surrounding slaughter worsened, Brant’s physical body—once as solid as a physical entity—began to fade slightly. Yet his facial expression grew even more grotesque and eerie.
Giggling maniacally, Brant announced, "Let me share another ability of mine! See my body? Once it turns semi-transparent, I’ll gain freedom of operation. The degree of transparency depends on how much slaughter occurs on this island. They’re fueling me with their resentment-fueled chaos!"
"Once I’m transparent, I’ll evolve into a more powerful ‘grudge spirit.’ Then I’ll move to the next place. If you don’t stop me, I’ll massacre the entire Dominica and spread my curse elsewhere. But if you want me dead, every single person from Kemorike must die with me. I’ve embedded my medium into all of them. I’ll never lose! Never!"
"Come on! Decide now! My body has already started transparentization!"
"I’ll do it!" William’s voice suddenly rang out.
William staggered up, not having truly awakened but merely lacking physical strength. The rain and long rest had revived him enough to rise. He’d heard everything from start to finish.
William knew Kuro couldn’t take this action. Kuro was Navy, but he was a pirate—better suited to bear this curse.
Otherwise, if Kuro tallied scores later, he’d be the loser. After all, he’d once been under Brant’s ability and nearly attacked Kuro himself.
"Kuro, someone like this can’t be allowed to run rampant. Let me handle it!" William’s expression hardened with resolve.
"I think that’s acceptable", Klah nodded instinctively. This idea wasn’t bad. Now wasn’t the time to hesitate. Though Klah had once been a pirate and now served as Navy, he had his principles. But when decisions were needed, he wouldn’t hesitate.
This creature’s current form left only two options: kill everyone on this secondary island and end him, or let him continue—but either way, people would die.
Was there a better solution? Klah couldn’t think of one. If a choice had to be made, he wouldn’t flinch.
Yet Kuro had just been promoted to admiral. Ordering the slaughter of an entire island could devastate his reputation. But since William was volunteering to take the blame, this plan could proceed.
Kuro’s expression remained neutral as he exhaled smoke. "Playing the electric trolley problem with the Old Man, huh?"
Wasn’t this the textbook trolley problem?
A madman has tied five innocent people to a trolley track. Uncontrolled, the trolley barrels toward them. You can pull a lever to divert it—but the madman tied one person to the alternate track. Five innocent lives or one? Pull the lever, and you become the killer. Let it roll, and you’re merely a bystander, but six lives hang in the balance.
This was the same dilemma. If they couldn’t bring themselves to kill the island, Brant would keep slaughtering until he gained freedom, moving on to the next island. As long as the medium survived, the massacre would escalate.
But stopping him meant personally ordering the island’s annihilation.
Yet the islanders were innocent too.
So...
What did this have to do with a guy holding a plunger?
Kuro immediately dialed the Transponder Snail on his wrist. "Have you arrived yet?!"
"Kuro Mr., almost there! The four of us have concentrated and are heading to Dominica. We’ll arrive in two hours at most!" Kas’s resolute voice crackled through the snail.
"Fine. Two hours."
Kuro hung up and glared at Brant. "Hear that? You’ve only got two hours left."
Brant froze, eyes wide. "You made that decision so quickly?! Isn’t this hard to choose?!"
"Hard to choose what?" Kuro scoffed. "A world noble died here—Dominica’s fate was sealed from the start. The only question is how many people die. I’m not the one calling the shots. The higher-ups decided this island’s end long ago. Since you’re here, we’ll just add a few more to the count."
He eyed Brant coldly. "Either way, you dying now is less trouble. Let’s settle it at once."
Kuro had a conscience, but he knew priorities. When the moment came, he wouldn’t waste pity on the helpless. This was the era’s sorrow—Navy wasn’t omnipotent. No one in the Grand Line was. When Devil Fruit users ran rampant, sometimes you had no choice.
Kuro understood this—but it wasn’t time yet. Two hours until the Pacifista arrived.
Two hours.
Kuro clenched his palm. Rainwater and soil erupted from the ground, ensnaring the chaos of bodies in a dense network. Mud bound them up to their chests, halting their advance temporarily.
Stopping Brant’s transparentization—for now.
If there was a solution within two hours, he’d find it.
If not...
Then so be it.
Kuro would make the decision—without hesitation!
