Chapter 110: This Sister Seems Familiar
Chapter 110: This Sister Seems Familiar
Mira suggested, "Since we're also looking for Natsu, why don't we stop by the guild for a bit?"
Wendy asked hopefully, "Can we?"
Rod also wondered if the guild could still accommodate guests.
"Of course, no problem," Mira said, confident in the guild's repair capabilities.
Wendy and Charle followed Mira through the guild doors, with Charle trying to maintain a serious expression but clearly as curious as Wendy.
It was their first time visiting another mage guild.
"Wow~ This is Fairy Tail...?" Wendy's excitement quickly faded into fear, "What happened here?"
Charle was equally shocked, "Did you suffer an attack, or was it an earthquake? A tornado?"
The guild hall was in shambles, with most people injured and sporting strange markings on their faces, looking quite terrifying.
"It's not that bad," Mira waved to the inside, "Everyone, are you feeling better?"
Laki was leading a group of girls in cleaning, while others were busy repairing walls, counters, and stairs.
Laki waved back, "Welcome back, Mira. We broke a lot of plates this time."
"We've already bought new ones."
"Mira! Who's that cute kid? A client? I'll take her job!"
"She's a guest from far away, Niki. Finish your work first."
Rod called out, "Why don't you wash your faces before working? You're scaring our guests."
Wakaba yelled, "Damn Rod! Why are you the only one who gets to go shopping with Mira while we're fixing the guild!"
"Because I didn't participate in the fight," Rod patted the crab parked at the door, "Get a couple of people to help move this stuff!"
Elfman was the first to drop what he was doing to help with the items Mira had bought.
Gray threw his hammer at Natsu's feet, having had enough of fixing the same spot with the idiot.
The three of them carried the goods to the kitchen, where Mira was already serving Wendy and Charle tea.
A blue Exceed, Happy, was perched on the counter, staring at Charle with hearts in his eyes.
Gray couldn't help but ask, "Who's that kid?"
Elfman added, "And that female Exceed! A real man!"
"They're from the Cat House guild, here to see Natsu and me," Rod explained, "Have you heard of the Cat House?"
Both shook their heads, confirming it was a relatively unknown guild.
Rod put down the items and dragged Natsu to the counter, "Sorry for the wait, this is 'Fire Dragon.'"
"Huh?" Natsu wasn't fully recovered but was feeling better, "Where's the Fire Dragon? Where's Igneel?"
"'Fire Dragon' is your nickname, haven't you heard it before?" Rod said.
"Oh~" Natsu deflated, idly playing with the glass of water Mira had placed in front of him.
But when he heard Wendy's name, he stared at her for a while.
Rod was surprised to realize that Natsu might actually be thinking.
"Hey, staring like that is rude," Charle scolded Natsu, then pointed at Happy, "And you, male cat, what have you been doing since we got here?"
Happy opened his green backpack, "Charle, want some fish?"
His bag always contained a fish, which he would eat at least once a day and replace with a fresh one.
"Hmph!" Charle turned up her nose.
Happy slunk into the corner.
Rod nodded to himself, curious about whether Happy would end up liking humans or female Exceeds, and now he had his answer.
"Wendy, Wendy... I feel like I've heard that name before, but I can't quite place it..."
Natsu tapped his head, "Mira, Rod, can you help me remember?"
Mira laughed, "I'm afraid I can't help with that."
"I have a way," Rod said, "If you have amnesia, just hit your head with a stick. I'll get Erza to help you 'remember.'"
"Ah, I see!" Natsu exclaimed, feeling a sudden epiphany, but quickly reacted. "…You want to kill me?!"
It's not uncommon to feel a sense of familiarity when meeting someone for the first time. There's even a term for it: "instant connection."
So, at first, Rod didn't think much of it, just like how he felt a bit of familiarity when he looked at Wendy now.
"Huh? Wait a minute, I think I've seen Wendy somewhere before. Was it a photo, a painting, or something else?"
No, it wasn't any of those. It was on a poster in the dorm!
Wendy, this kid must be part of the main cast!
Rod suddenly realized, and his gaze softened, becoming more welcoming and less wary.
"Wendy, are these the people you're looking for?" Charle thought Natsu and Rod were both idiots, one being an idiot and the other being the friend of an idiot.
"Don't joke around," Mira interjected, then asked, "Why is Wendy looking for them?"
Wendy asked cautiously, "Um… Mr. Natsu, are you a Dragon Slayer?"
Natsu nodded, "Yeah, I'm a Fire Dragon Slayer."
"Actually, I'm a Dragon Slayer too, a Sky Dragon Slayer."
"What?" The three of them were taken aback.
Dragon Slayer magic is an ancient and lost magic. The term "lost" is used because the methods to learn these magics have nearly been forgotten, and the number of people who can practice them is extremely rare.
Encountering even one Dragon Slayer like Natsu is already quite difficult.
Now, suddenly, there was Wendy, a mere 11-year-old child, which couldn't help but astonish everyone.
But for Natsu, it was more than just surprise. "Wendy, where did you learn your Dragon Slayer magic!?"
"It was the Sky Dragon Grandine who taught me. Grandine is a real dragon; she took me in," Wendy explained. "Mr. Natsu, what about you?"
"Me too! The dragon Igneel taught me magic, and he took me in as well!" Natsu was overjoyed, feeling a sense of kinship.
Whenever he mentioned Igneel before, people always told him that dragons had gone extinct and couldn't be found.
Now, he had finally met someone else who had learned magic from a dragon!
Wendy was equally delighted. She had felt a sense of familiarity from the moment she saw Natsu.
"Wendy, can you take me to see Grandine? Does she know where Igneel is?"
Wendy's joyful expression dimmed, "Grandine disappeared six years ago, on July 7th, six years ago."
Charle continued for Wendy, "That's why Wendy came to find you. She also wanted to ask if you knew anything about the dragons."
"Igneel also disappeared six years ago, on July 7th, X777."
Natsu calmed down, thinking about that infuriating old man who had vanished without a word.
"How could this happen?" Wendy had a bad feeling from the start, but it still left her feeling disheartened.
"Why is it always on July 7th, X777? It's like they planned it," Mira said. "There might be a connection between Igneel and Grandine."
"Was that day a special day?"
Rod recalled the common knowledge and history he knew, but nothing special came to mind.
Since he had confirmed that Wendy would be part of their group in the future, he was willing to lend her a bit more of his strategic thinking.
Charle looked at Rod, "If there are no other leads, the next person we should ask is you, the third person here with a connection to dragons."
"?"
A quick note:
1. Laxus usually uses regular lightning magic, and no one in the guild knows he can use Dragon Slayer magic yet.
2. The few people Rod recognized from the posters were: Natsu, Gray, Erza, Lucy, and Wendy.
