Chapter 110: A New Way to Obtain Little Red Stars (Third Update)
Chapter 110: A New Way to Obtain Little Red Stars (Third Update)
At two o'clock in the morning, above a prison in New York.
Jerry, who had cast a Disguise Charm, couldn't help but complain while riding his Flying Broom:
"Hell's Kitchen has been way off lately. The number of Little Red Stars has dropped drastically. I guess I'll have to try this place!"
Recently, Jerry had noticed a significant decrease in criminal activities in Hell's Kitchen, which in turn had reduced his intake of Little Red Stars.
After patrolling Hell's Kitchen for two hours, he hadn't encountered many crimes, not even as much as in other parts of New York.
If this continued, he would be in trouble.
After all, he was now learning Magic during the day, which consumed a lot of Little Red Stars.
Moreover, he needed to save enough Little Red Stars for the upcoming Second Minor World, and to prepare for the First Mini World, which would appear after his next upgrade.
So, he decided to temporarily abandon Hell's Kitchen and focus on the prisoners in the prisons he had been considering for some time.
He had long thought that if doing good deeds could earn Little Red Stars, then dealing with the criminals in prison should also grant him Little Red Stars.
In the Usa, only a few regions still have the death penalty. Most areas, including New York, do not. This means that even if someone commits a heinous crime, the maximum punishment is usually life imprisonment.
Jerry reasoned that if he were to help these criminals end their lives, he would likely earn Little Red Stars.
He hadn't done this before because his Magic wasn't strong enough to infiltrate a heavily guarded prison without being detected.
Additionally, some prisoners might truly deserve their fate, while others might be innocent and wrongfully accused.
Acting without mastering the Imperius Curse could lead to mistakenly harming the innocent, which would be undesirable.
But now, he had no such worries.
The Disguise Charm allowed him to infiltrate undetected, the Freezing Charm could disable electronic devices, and the Imperius Curse could accurately determine the true nature of a prisoner's crimes. He could also practice the Obliviate and False Memory Charms before ending their lives.
Perfect!
"Alohomora!"
After landing and stowing his Flying Broom in his Box, Jerry walked straight to the nearest iron door and waved his Wand. The electronic lock on the door jiggled a couple of times and then opened under the power of Magic.
Alohomora could open not only ordinary mechanical locks but also advanced locks like electronic, fingerprint, and retinal scanners.
At this hour, most of the prison staff, except for the dozen or so night patrol guards, were asleep.
Jerry, under the Disguise Charm, carefully approached a middle-aged guard from behind and quietly cast an Imperius Curse.
Under the control of the Imperius Curse, the guard happily led Jerry to the high-security area where the most dangerous prisoners were held.
An hour later, Jerry left the prison, located far from the city, with a satisfied look on his face.
Inside the prison, the thirty or so prisoners who had been sentenced to life in prison had all been turned into memoryless idiots, except for one who had died.
Originally, Jerry had planned to kill all the prisoners, but he found that the number of Little Red Stars he received for killing a prisoner was about the same as turning them into memoryless idiots using Obliviate. So, he chose the latter.
After all, if thirty prisoners suddenly died, it would likely cause a significant stir.
But if they just became idiots, the warden would likely try to shirk responsibility and wouldn't necessarily make a big deal out of it.
After all, these were all prisoners facing life sentences. As long as they didn't die, whether they were idiots or not didn't seem to be a significant issue.
After harvesting a substantial number of Little Red Stars, Jerry originally planned to go home and sleep. However, halfway through his flight, he suddenly thought of something and turned toward the next prison.
If he tackled each prison over a few days, any issues that arose would make it difficult for him to intervene later.
So, while everyone was still unaware, he decided to push through and sweep all the prisons in one night. This way, even if something went wrong, he wouldn't have to worry about it.
Since he already had all the Little Red Stars, he wouldn't need to return to the prisons and wouldn't have to worry about someone lying in wait for him.
It was just a matter of staying up all night, which he was already used to. He had been pulling all-nighters frequently lately and could catch up on sleep during the day.
Thus, he kept going until around seven in the morning, when he finally dragged his exhausted body back to his room.
Sweeping all the prisons in New York in one night was tiring, but the number of Little Red Stars he collected was substantial.
The total was almost on par with what he had earned in Hell's Kitchen over the past few months.
If it weren't for the distance to cities like Washington and Los Angeles, which were too far for a round trip in one night on his flying broom, he might have been tempted to go there without resting and sweep all their prisons as well.
However, the biggest gain was the constant practice with the Obliviate and False Memory Charm, which he finally managed to master to a basic level.
Indeed, the saying "practice makes perfect" held true for magic as well.
"Seventy thousand, not bad!"
In the kitchen, Jerry was making breakfast using magic while glancing at the number of Little Red Stars on his Panel. He nodded to himself.
His current goal was to save up around a hundred thousand Little Red Stars before the Panel's upgrade was complete.
As he frequently used Superman Mode, he noticed his body was gradually adapting to it, and the side effects after each use were becoming less severe.
He even felt that if he continued using it frequently, his Superman Mode might eventually become a constant state, and he could keep it active for 24 hours without any issues.
However, this also meant an increased consumption of Little Red Stars.
The longer he used Superman Mode, the more Little Red Stars he consumed.
Previously, he used about 400 to 500 Little Red Stars a day, but now it was closer to 500 to 600. If he was in the Mini World, he would need an additional 100.
In other words, he needed to save up at least a hundred thousand Little Red Stars. If he entered the Harry Potter Mini World, he might have to return to the Main World before the semester was over due to the depletion of his Little Red Stars.
Moreover, after the Panel's upgrade, the Second Minor World would open.
He wasn't sure what the Second Minor World would be like, but if the magic there was useful, he might have to spend some time there as well.
As Jerry was contemplating what the Second Minor World might be like, he glanced at his Panel and froze.
"Speak of the devil!"
The Panel now displayed four prominent words:
"Upgrade Successful!"
Below that was a smaller line:
"Second Minor World has been successfully captured. Please check it out!"
