Chapter 11: Magic Cultivation
Chapter 11: Magic Cultivation
Those who failed to condense their qi into their bodies were left in the main hall, while Chu Ning and the others were led away.
They were then further divided according to the attribute of the techniques and spells they would be practicing.
The Spirit Plant sector focused on cultivating wood-attribute techniques, and there were five people in total, including Chu Ning and Qiu Shuny, as well as three others.
A disciple of average build and rather handsome features, named Shi Yao, led the five to an empty space behind the transmission hall before introducing himself:
"My name is Shi Yao, and I am a disciple of the Wood-style technique transmission hall, with a cultivation base of the ninth layer of Refining Qi."
Shi Yao's words immediately caught the attention of the five.
They had previously thought that Shi Yao did not exude a strong aura, but they had not expected him to be a master at the ninth layer of Refining Qi.
Shi Yao noticed the expressions on their faces but did not show any sign of arrogance. Instead, he said calmly, "You are all new disciples who have just started to condense your qi and gather your spiritual power. For now, let's start with some basic spells.
You have probably heard of the three most fundamental spells for cultivating spirit plants: the Stimulation Spell, the Cleansing Spell, and the Sweet Dew Spell. The first two are wood-attribute spells, while the last one is a water-attribute spell."
As Shi Yao spoke, one of the other three, a man named Yuan Guang, asked, "Senior brother, we cultivate the Evergreen Changspring Technique, which is a wood-attribute technique. Can we also cast water-attribute spells?"
"Of course!" Shi Yao nodded.
"Our spiritual power can draw upon the five elemental auras. Except for extremely high-level spells or those with particularly high spiritual power requirements, we can cast most spells.
However, same-attribute techniques and spells are more harmonious, resulting in greater power and lower spiritual power consumption.
"The spells I mentioned earlier are not too difficult. As long as you have a stable first layer of the Evergreen Changspring Technique, you can learn to cast them with practice."
Shi Yao paused in his explanation and then continued, "Today, I will first teach you the Stimulation Spell. This spell is simpler and will help you understand the Azure Wood Chunhua Technique."
As he spoke, Shi Yao tapped his waist pouch, and a grain of rice appeared in his hand.
Chu Ning subconsciously followed his movement and fixed his gaze on the pouch.
At the same time, a female disciple with a round face exclaimed, "Is that a storage pouch?"
The other three also turned their attention to the pouch. In the Spirit Plant sector, ordinary disciples had low cultivation levels and meager incomes, so it was rare for them to see precious items like storage pouches.
Obviously, none of the people present had one, so this was their first time seeing it.
Shi Yao nodded without saying a word and then addressed the group, "I will demonstrate the Stimulation Spell for you, and then I'll teach you the incantation and hand seals."
He tossed the seed onto the ground and quickly performed a series of hand seals before pointing at the seed.
The grain of rice quickly cracked open, and before long, a seedling sprouted from it.
"The Stimulation Spell aids the germination, development, and growth of spirit plants, but it does not alter their quality. This is different from the Greenwood Nourishment Technique."
After explaining, Shi Yao began to impart the incantation and hand seals of the Stimulation Spell.
Assuming that everyone present had just begun to condense their qi and had not cultivated a substantial amount of spiritual power, Shi Yao did not ask them to practice the spell.
Instead, he had Chu Ning and the others memorize the incantation and practice the hand seals.
After some time, once everyone had committed the spell to memory, Shi Yao started sharing his insights and cultivation experiences regarding the Evergreen Greenwood Technique and the Greenwood Blossom Technique.
Chu Ning found this to be quite beneficial.
For example, he learned from Shi Yao that the power of the Azurewood Chunhua Technique would increase as one progressed in the Evergreen Azurewood Changspring Technique.
However, the proficiency in cultivating the Azure Wood Chunhua Technique itself was also critical. Only by truly mastering the Azure Wood Chunhua Technique could one instantaneously cast it without the need for hand seals, and the spiritual power consumption would be minimal.
It was normal for him to not have reached that level yet, given the limited time he had been practicing.
Even Cao Dongxin, who had been cultivating this spell for decades, had not achieved it, which only went to show how important talent was in the cultivation world.
After the lecture and exchange session, Shi Yao distributed some rice grains to everyone and indicated that they could leave.
Chu Ning stood up but did not follow the others out. Instead, he approached Shi Yao, cupped his fists, and bowed respectfully.
"Senior Brother Shi, may I ask you to also teach me the Cleansing Spell and the Sweet Dew Spell?"
Shi Yao frowned at the request and replied with a hint of displeasure, "If I recall correctly, your name is Chu Ning, right? You've only just entered the first layer of Qi Refining, and your focus should primarily be on cultivating your martial arts. One spell is enough; don't bite off more than you can chew."
Chu Ning quickly explained, "Senior Brother, you've misunderstood. I don't intend to cultivate them now; I just want to learn the incantations and slowly ponder them. My situation is a bit unique. The senior brother I follow has a peculiar temperament, and he doesn't allow much time for cultivating martial arts. I thought that during the times when I'm doing odd jobs, I could also work on comprehending spells..."
"Could it be that you're following Cao Dongxin?" Shi Yao suddenly asked.
"Yes," Chu Ning nodded. He wasn't surprised that Shi Yao knew about Cao Dongxin, given his extensive knowledge of the Evergreen Azurewood Technique and the Azurewood Blooming Art, which indicated his familiarity with the Spirit Plant sector.
As expected, Shi Yao continued, "I've heard about that Cao Dongxin and his antics."
"Never mind, I'll teach them to you, but remember, martial arts are the foundation. Stabilizing and advancing your cultivation realm should be your top priority right now."
Chu Ning readily agreed.
Thus, Shi Yao proceeded to impart the knowledge of the remaining two spells to Chu Ning.
Only then did Chu Ning leave the Transmission Hall, feeling content, and made his way back to the Spirit Plant sector.
His previous statement had been partly true—the real reason he wanted to learn those spells was that he knew he would be able to master the Stimulation and Cleansing Spells, both wood-attribute spells, very quickly.
Additionally, his progress with the Evergreen Azurewood Technique had already stabilized at the first layer, and in another half a month, he might even advance to the second layer.
Naturally, he would then be qualified to cultivate more spells.
As for the Sweet Dew Spell, he hadn't tried cultivating a spell of another attribute before, and he was curious to see how it would go.
Moreover, Cao Dongxin had already started assigning Chu Ning tasks like weeding, which took up a significant amount of his time. If he could learn the Cleansing Spell, it would be very useful for those tasks.
When Chu Ning returned to the courtyard, Cao Dongxin was already back, and after lunch, he instructed Chu Ning to go to the fields to pull out the weeds, just as Chu Ning had expected.
Eager to try out his new spells, Chu Ning didn't hesitate and immediately headed out.
In the fields, Chu Ning silently recited the key points of the Cleansing Spell in his mind, then channeled his spiritual power, targeting a weed. He released the spell, and the weed was instantly pulled out by an unseen force—a successful attempt.
Although it was partly due to the sparse number of weeds and his imperfect control over the amount of spiritual power expended, the success rate still left Chu Ning amazed.
Indeed, his Yin Wood Spirit Body possessed an incredible talent for cultivating wood-attribute spells. He wondered what the effects would be when he cultivated more advanced martial arts and spells in the future.
Next, Chu Ning attempted the Stimulation Spell, and it, too, was a success.
Of course, in terms of speed, he couldn't compare to Shi Yao, the senior disciple in charge of transmitting martial arts.
However, after spending some time adjusting and familiarizing himself with the spell, he was eventually able to stimulate the growth of the seedlings.
Now, it was time to try out the Sweet Dew Spell.
