Chapter 11: Caterpie-Exclusive Enhancement
Chapter 11: Caterpie-Exclusive Enhancement
A new facility has been added to the ranch: a pond!
Naoki felt a sense of harvest joy as he watched the Magikarp swimming in the lake.
His fishing plans were interrupted by Golemon, and Naoki looked up at the sky, estimating the time before deciding to head back to the cottage to check on the steamed rice balls.
Just as he picked up the iron bucket full of fish, he turned and saw Motoxizard running towards him, clutching a small yellow wildflower in its claw.
"For me?" Naoki asked in surprise.
"Gaom!" Motoxizard nodded its head, its face breaking into a lovable smile.
Was this creature too adorable? Naoki reached out and took the wildflower, looking at the petals and thinking to himself: "I guess this is why so many people love Pokemon."
They are pure, innocent, and kind. Most Pokemon will stay by your side for life and even risk their lives to protect you, as long as you treat them well.
Naoki sighed inwardly, reaching out to pat Motoxizard's head before turning to call Golemon back.
But Golemon, who had been watching the fish just a moment ago, was nowhere to be seen.
Looking up, Naoki spotted Golemon quickly weaving through a vibrant patch of grass, causing the butterflies within to scatter in fright and flee into the distance.
After a few minutes, Golemon returned.
In its hand was a colorful bouquet of flowers—blue roses, tulips, and grape hyacinths.
"..."
Naoki immediately guessed Golemon's intention, but then again, Golemon was probably the least dignified Legendary Pokemon out there.
After spending these two days together, its words and actions lacked the air of a legendary creature and instead resembled a naive and simple schoolchild.
Golemon handed over the flowers: "Gaom gaom gao!"
Naoki sighed inwardly and reluctantly took them.
As he reached for the bucket, Golemon leaned in closer.
Naoki: "..."
It was indeed like a childish schoolkid.
He helplessly patted Golemon's head.
Only then did Golemon seem satisfied.
"Let's go!" Naoki picked up the bucket, with Motoxizard and Golemon flanking him as they returned to the cottage.
He placed the bucket in the shade to prevent the fish from being scorched by the sun. Later, at 5 p.m., he would hand them over to Zack when he came to collect them.
Entering the house, Naoki checked on the rice balls, which weren't quite ready yet, so he sat at the desk and took out the ledger and pen he had bought from the general store.
Recording daily expenses and income was a must for any qualified ranch owner.
This way, when the ranch expanded in the future, he wouldn't be caught off guard.
Picking up the pen, Naoki calculated and recorded the figures.
198, Spring, January 5th.
Income: Black Truffle +$33,000
Expenses: Seeds, fishing rod, spices, ingredients -$4,190
Remaining funds: $28,810
198, Spring, January 6th.
Income: Fish +
Expenses: 0
Naoki hadn't sold the fish yet, so he didn't know their price. He left a blank space to fill in the amount later that evening.
Additionally, Naoki noted the funds required to expand the residence and repair the Pokemon and chicken coops.
This would not only help him keep track of his finances but also motivate him to work towards these goals.
After finishing the accounts, Naoki got up to check on the steamer.
This time, the rice balls were finally cooked.
In the misty steam, they resembled plump, tender dolls.
: A spring delicacy made with glutinous rice and red bean paste, popular among the youth.
Cooking Effect: Bug-type Pokemon exclusive, Bug Silk Enhancement lv2. Moderately increases the resilience and strength of Bug Silk. If ingredients with attributes are added, the Pokemon that eats it may exhibit more changes...
Evaluation: Snow-white in appearance, sticky, soft, sweet, and delicate, with a refreshing and palate-pleasing flavor, accompanied by a hint of red bean fragrance. A truly delightful snack.]
Hmm? Bug-type exclusive enhancement?
Naoki's interest was piqued as he read those words.
The snow-white rice balls lay in the pot, each with the same enhancement effect, but there were differences in their levels.
Some had level 1 enhancement, others level 2, and the highest was level 3.
However, what truly caught Naoki's attention wasn't the phrase "Bug-type Pokemon exclusive," but rather the part about [ingredients with attributes].
If he recalled correctly, ingredients with attributes didn't seem to exist in the Pokemon world.
But they did in that trash game.
For example, the Ice-attribute Ice Ice Fruit and the Electric-attribute Electric Lemon.
However, could such ingredients be grown in this world?
Naoki's first instinct was that it was impossible, but then he suddenly recalled a particular dish from the game.
It was a dish called "Grass Cake." In the game, if players fed this cake to their cultivated characters and then placed them in their farms to tend to the crops, the crops would undergo slight mutations.
Ordinary mushrooms would become Armor Mushrooms, regular lemons would turn into Electric Lemons, and common apples would transform into Glowing Apples.
Feeding the apple to the character would make them glow like a lightbulb, essentially giving them a free transformation.
This led Naoki to wonder: if he successfully made the "Grass Cake" and fed it to a Pokemon, could he grant them that same miraculous ability?
After a moment's thought, Naoki believed it was possible.
However, the crucial issue was that he, as a technical officer, didn't know the ingredients or the detailed recipe for the Grass Cake.
How could grass be made into a cake?
Perhaps only Pleasant Goat and his friends, who lived in Goat Village, would know...
If he could get his hands on an Electric Lemon and add it to the Sweet Red Bean Rice Balls, he might be able to create Bug Silk with an Electric-attribute enhancement.
The dream of Caterpie using Electric Net could become a reality.
Naoki's heart raced at the thought.
"It looks like I'll need to try making Grass Cake in the near future."
But not now. The ranch was still in its initial stages, and every penny had to be spent wisely.
Keeping this in mind, Naoki placed the rice balls on a clean plate to cool.
Motoxizard curiously gazed at the rice balls on the plate, showing more interest than Golemon.
Noticing Motoxizard's expression, Naoki cautioned, "They're still hot. Wait for them to cool down before eating."
Motoxizard was obedient. If Naoki said not to eat them yet, it wouldn't touch them.
Naoki set most of the rice balls aside for Golemon and Motoxizard, taking one for himself—a level 3 Bug Silk-enhanced rice ball.
He recalled seeing a Caterpie on the mountain behind the ranch.
He was curious to see what kind of changes this small rice ball could bring about in the Caterpie and to what extent it could enhance its Bug Silk.
