Chapter 1093: Uninvited Guests
Chapter 1093: Uninvited Guests
Deep within the Satellite Sector.
The wick twitched in the congealed wax, the dim, yellowish light flickering like a dying firefly, barely illuminating the room’s contours. Beneath the peeling wallpaper, a network of mold patterns was exposed, and a damp chill seeped through the cracks.
Figures in black hooded robes gathered around a worm-eaten wooden table. The shadows under their hoods were so thick they seemed to devour their features, with only bony hands emerging from the sleeves, casting spider-web-like tremors in the candlelight.
The owner of one such hand bore a terrifying pattern on their arm.
A deep purple pattern, thick lines drawn in a minimalist style, resembling the Nasca Lines.
The Marked Ones.
Spanning five thousand years of destiny, these Underworld envoys were chosen to battle the Dragon Marked Ones, those chosen by the Red Dragon. When the Marked Ones triumph, the gates of the Netherworld will open, and the Nether King will return to rule the world.
The living realm will be overturned, and the dead will reign supreme. This is the purpose of the Marked Ones.
“The time is almost here.”
Under the flickering candlelight, a Marked One spoke in a deep voice.
He revealed his arm, where the dark mark glowed with a purple light.
“The Divine Mark is yearning for battle, yearning for the blood of the Dragon Marked Ones.”
But a female Marked One interjected, “But not all of us are here yet, right? The time is near, but not now.”
Across the table, a blue-haired Marked One tapped his fingers on the surface, his voice slightly sharp.
“It doesn’t matter.
What does it matter about the mission of battle or the five thousand years of destiny?
But if you all remember one thing: Yusei Fudo, that guy, he’s mine!”
The other two remained silent.
The blue-haired Marked One then turned to the last person at the end of the long table, the one who had gathered them, their leader among the Marked Ones.
“Yusei Fudo is mine to handle. I will make him experience the pain of a traitor, a despair like a living hell. No objections, right?”
But the leader of the Marked Ones did not respond.
The blue-haired Marked One frowned, stepped forward, and waved a hand in front of the leader.
“Hey? Are you still with us?”
The leader seemed to snap back to reality, looking up at him.
After a moment, the leader spoke in a sinister tone, “Do as you wish.”
With that, the leader stood up, ignoring the others, and walked out of the room.
The others watched his back until he disappeared through the door. A moment later, the blue-haired Marked One furrowed his brow and said, “Has anyone else noticed that the boss has been acting strange lately?”
No one responded.
“...”
The leader of the Marked Ones walked to a secluded spot, took a few steps, and then, as if unable to hold on any longer, knelt to the ground, clutching his head.
“Ugh...”
He gritted his teeth, as if his head was splitting.
“No, something... is wrong.”
The battle between the Dragon Marked Ones and the Marked Ones was about to begin again. But something was off this time.
It was as if some unknown force had intervened in this fated battle, stirring up chaos on both sides.
And the leader of the Marked Ones could vaguely feel that he was at the center of this chaos.
“Get out of my head...”
“Ah—”
New Domino City.
At this moment, Godwin, or rather, Commander Godwin, was walking down the city streets after leaving the Utopia Movement headquarters.
Akari Shizukana was taken care of. She would definitely attend the Lucky Cup tournament.
Akari Shizukana's life changed after meeting Yusei Fudo and the others. Or, more accurately, she found redemption.
With Yusei's help, she reconciled with her parents, learned to control her powers, and eventually, her abilities vanished entirely.
According to Dewey's tests in the anime, Akari's powers grew stronger with her anger and hatred. Since meeting Yusei, her hatred began to wane, and her powers weakened accordingly.
In the end, her telekinetic abilities disappeared completely, turning her into an ordinary young girl. For her, this was actually a good outcome, as it meant she could finally live a normal life.
However, Youxuan felt that while this ending was nice, it could have been better.
Akari's redemption was certainly positive, but it came at the cost of her becoming somewhat marginalized from the middle of the series onward.
Remember when Akari first appeared, she was known as a witch, even the typically arrogant Jack described her as "unusually powerful." At the Lucky Cup, she dominated all her opponents, advancing to the finals and becoming Yusei's opponent before he faced Jack.
At that time, Akari was truly formidable.
Youxuan always felt that Akari never fully accepted her innate powers. Even after her redemption, she only learned to suppress them, preventing them from going out of control when she didn't want to use them.
Eventually, her telekinetic abilities vanished entirely, and even if she wanted to use them, she couldn't. In a way, this might have been a result of her subconscious choice.
This wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but Youxuan believed she could have achieved more.
Power itself is neither good nor evil. If anything, Akari's powers were just pure physical destruction. In contrast, former Duel King Atem and Jaden Yuki used far more sinister methods, like Dark Yu-Gi and the personification of inner darkness.
If Akari had embraced her talents, she might have gone even further.
Youxuan didn't rush to reveal Dewey's true nature to her, as doing so would likely rob her of the motivation to participate in the Lucky Cup and possibly even her drive to move forward.
By competing in the Lucky Cup, not only would she be further awakened, but she would also meet Yusei Fudo.
Despite his initial cool and tough demeanor, Yusei is actually warm-hearted and tends to meddle in others' affairs. His ability to talk his way out of situations is on par with other Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonists.
Through dueling with Yusei, Akari should be able to reduce her self-hatred and lay the groundwork for her next phase.
With that, only one more Dragon Marked One remained to be found.
Youxuan was walking down the street, lost in thought, when he heard a young child's voice from behind.
"Ryuga! Ryuga, wait for me!"
"..."
"Ouch!"
Youxuan felt a small body collide with him.
He turned around to see a little boy with green hair and a blue Duel Disk on his arm, sitting on the ground and rubbing his sore bottom.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch..."
Youxuan looked down at the child and couldn't help but smile.
To show up uninvited like this, what a coincidence.
