Akane's eyes were bloodshot, her lips trembling, and her tear-filled eyes brimming with anger and hatred.

Such a candid and almost defiant admission was like a challenge, as if he was daring her to come and bite him.

Akane let out a furious roar, drawing a card from her Deck and slamming it onto the Duel Disk. Her pink Duel Disk activated, and a holographic summoning vortex appeared. Before the monster could even materialize, a tentacle shot out from the vortex, piercing the air with a sonic boom.
"Rosesnare!"
A six-star, 2200 Attack Power, advanced plant-type monster, one of Akane's favorites. A blood-red rose in full bloom was summoned, and its thorny vines shot out like arrows, tearing through the air with a thunderous force.
Akane could not bear it.
From a very young age, from the moment her powers awakened, everything had started to slip away from her.
Family, classmates, elders, friends...
Everyone despised her, everyone rejected her. Even she began to see herself as a monster, a demon that should not exist in this world, perhaps better off dead.

Youxuan drew a card and promptly placed two cards face-down.
"I set one monster card in Defense Position in the front row, and then set one card in the back row. My turn ends."
He put down his Duel Disk and continued, "Dwayne called your name even in his final moments."
Akane gasped.
"He said you were his proudest warrior, the strongest Psychic Duelist here. Don't let him down."
Akane felt a surge of anger, her vision blurring, and she nearly lost her balance.
"I will kill you, kill you—my turn, Draw!"
Akane declared.
"I summon Plant Maiden in Attack Position!"
Plant Maiden appeared on the field, her body encased in a verdant plant-like armor, even her hair resembling a blooming flower.

Akane took deep breaths to calm herself, her chest heaving.
No, I can't let my anger cloud my judgment. If he could defeat Dwayne, he must be a formidable opponent. I need to observe what type of deck he's using first.
"Attack!"
Akane commanded.
"Plant Maiden, attack the face-down monster!"
Plant Maiden lunged forward, her right arm extending to grab the face-down card.
The card flipped, revealing a witch-like monster shrouded in green leaves, standing in Defense Position.

Akane gasped.
She couldn't be unfamiliar with this monster; she had the same card and used it frequently.
Could this guy be using the same Plant Deck as me?
Plant Maiden's attack broke through the Violet Witch's defenses, causing the witch to shatter into fragments. However, just before dying, the witch's staff released a burst of magic, which shot into Youxuan's deck.
"The effect of Violet Witch", Youxuan explained. "When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, I can add one Plant monster with 1500 or less Defense Power from my deck to my hand."
A card automatically popped out of Youxuan's deck.
"I add Lone Spark, with 1400 Defense Power, to my hand."
Seeing this card, Akane became even more certain that this person was using the same Plant Deck as her. The realization fueled her grief and anger, and she bit her lip.
Could this guy have used the same Plant Deck to kill Dwayne?
