Chapter 1081: Deweyn's Death
Chapter 1081: Deweyn's Death
"Are you kidding me?"
Deweyn's eyes widened in shock, and his body slowly slumped backward, powerless.
The Sin Deck was pulling out all sorts of outrageous monsters as if it were a joke. Deweyn had already concluded that it must be a privileged deck, something Godevin, that scoundrel, had printed out using his authority.
It was simply despicable.
Even so, Deweyn had managed to defend against everything.
But then, the bastard pulled out a Pistol Turtle!
This wretched turtle, which looked harmless and weak, casually dealt him the darkest and most despairing experience of his life with a mere wave of its hand.
The Life Points on the screen dropped to zero. Deweyn's skin began to lose its color, turning translucent from the tips of his fingers, as if being devoured by an invisible force. His life force slipped away like sand through his fingers, each breath accompanied by excruciating pain.
He realized in despair that he was going to die.
Every cell in his body rebelled against his commands, all functions gradually shutting down. Even the strength to cry out was stripped away, leaving only the reflection of the cold, indifferent figure of the officer in his eyes, like a white demon, watching him die without a ripple of emotion.
But he couldn't accept it.
He still had unfinished ambitions, uncompleted endeavors. He had brainwashed so many Psychic Duelists, so many powerful Duelists with extraordinary abilities who could easily destroy an entire city block. With just a few keywords, he could make them obey him without question.
But all his plans, all his years of effort, were for nothing. He never even got the chance to use them.
He should have been the king of the new world. How could this be?
"Ah, Godevin—"
Deweyn's face contorted, as if burning through his last reserves of strength. He gathered all his hatred and swung a final, powerful punch at Yixuan's face.
But Yixuan didn't flinch or dodge. He stood there calmly, smiling as the punch passed right through his face.
Yes, it passed right through, as if Deweyn had become a spirit, losing his physical form and unable to even touch the other man.
Deweyn's eyes bulged in terror. He turned his head and saw that his body had already died, kneeling quietly on the ground behind him. He had unconsciously left his body, now a spirit.
"No, please, anything but this, save me—"
"Thanks, but no need", Yixuan said with a slight smile, narrowing his eyes. "But don't worry, Deweyn. I'll inherit your fall, your utopian movement, and all the secrets you've collected over the years.
You can rest in peace."
Deweyn almost spat blood, if he still had any to spit as a spirit.
"Godevin!" His face twisted into a demonic expression. "You'll suffer a terrible fate!"
With that, he finally exhausted his last bit of strength, his spirit fading and disappearing.
Yixuan calmly straightened his jacket and said to where Deweyn had vanished, "Thanks for the blessing, but no need. He's already suffering a terrible fate."
Incidentally, their fates were quite similar. Both Godevin and Deweyn were killed in their own strongholds, both dying with unresolved grievances. These two miserable brothers might even sit together in the afterlife, sharing their victim stories.
As usual, Yixuan picked up Deweyn's deck and quickly scanned through it.
"Sure enough, all Psychic."
Psychic cards weren't entirely useless in the future, but in this era, they were still a bit lackluster. This was why he hadn't really expected much from Deweyn before the duel, and checking his deck was just a formality. He hadn't thought Deweyn would have anything valuable.
The Emergency Teleport was a pleasant surprise. It was indeed a valuable card, and its worth would only increase as the environment changed.
For Synchro monsters, Deweyn only had two: one was the Spirit World Demon that he had used in the duel, and the other was a five-star Synchro with 2400 Attack Points, the Magic Artificial Human, which could restore 600 Life Points for each Psychic monster on the field at the end of each of his turns.
The latter isn’t particularly rare, but the Spirit World Demon is still one of the rarer cards in this world. With 2700 Attack Points, it’s decent enough. Besides the effect Deweyn used in this Duel—absorbing the Attack Points of destroyed monsters as Life Points—it has another useful ability.
When a Psychic monster is targeted by a Spell or Trap Card, you can pay 1000 Life Points to negate and destroy that card. Essentially, it provides all Psychic monsters with resistance against being targeted by Spell and Trap Cards.
Of course, despite its demonic name, it’s a Psychic monster itself, so it has this resistance too.
The rest of Deweyn’s Main Deck doesn’t have anything particularly eye-catching.
Yixuan made his way down the corridor until he reached Deweyn’s room.
The door was locked, but that was no obstacle for him. After unlocking it, he pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The room was dimly lit and looked somewhat disorganized, as if Deweyn had just moved in and hadn’t had the chance to tidy up yet. Bookshelves lined the walls, and various sculptures were placed on either side. Above the bookshelves hung several calligraphy pieces and paintings, which appeared to be quite valuable. It seemed Deweyn was an art enthusiast.
"There should be a hidden door here", Yixuan said.
The Silent Magician appeared silently and pointed her staff at one of the bookshelves.
"Behind this one?"
Yixuan walked over to the bookshelf and examined it. He guessed the opening mechanism was one of the books on the shelf. However, the shelves were densely packed with books, and he had no interest in trying each one individually.
Nor was it necessary.
The Silent Magician murmured a spell, and her staff emitted a soft white light. The entire bookshelf was enveloped in the light, and it seemed as if an invisible hand pushed it aside, revealing the hidden door behind it.
"My Silent is amazing."
Yixuan smiled and gently patted her silver-haired head. Her cheeks turned slightly red, and she pouted, turning her head away from his hand.
Yixuan entered the hidden room, which wasn’t very large. It was primarily used by Deweyn to store various classified information he had gathered.
Information can be a weapon, and here Yixuan found evidence that Godevin was born in the Satellite District.
Moreover, the intelligence held by the Utopian Movement was more extensive than Yixuan had initially thought. To his surprise, he even found the name "Taichi" in the files.
Deweyn’s information suggested that Godevin, from the Security Maintenance Bureau, might just be a pawn, actually taking orders from an organization called "Taichi."
However, the investigation into this organization was still ongoing, and the information they had was limited. Deweyn speculated that Taichi’s current goal was to control the power of the Red Dragon, and the organization’s influence was vast, possibly even aiming to conquer the world.
Of course, with the original work as a reference, Yixuan knew that this was just Deweyn’s wild speculation. Taichi was actually a salvation organization established by the Zone God to alter history and prevent the future from collapsing. The claims about controlling the Red Dragon’s power and conquering the world were baseless.
However, the part about the Security Maintenance Bureau being a pawn of Taichi was accurate.
Yixuan continued to sift through the files, raising an eyebrow.
Not only did it contain the gathered intelligence, but it also documented many of Deweyn’s own underhanded deeds, such as framing his own organization members after killing people, forcing them to join him, evidence of brainwashing his own people, and records of human experiments that resulted in the deaths of many internal members.
The information stored here was essentially Deweyn’s confession.
