Chapter 108: You Know, My Patronus Is a Bit Special
Two days later, in the early morning, Ivan was eating a Bacon Sandwich when he suddenly felt a chill. Looking up, he saw Aisia with a sullen expression.
"What's going on?"
Aisia slammed a newspaper on the table with a loud "slap."
Ivan glanced at it and realized it wasn't from any newspaper he recognized; it must be unique to Knockturn Alley. But that wasn't the main point.
The main point was the moving picture on the front page, where Douglas was using magic to drag five Enforcers through the Wizard Market without any attempt to hide. The image exuded a powerful aura as he walked.
Ivan, with his sharp eyes, could even see two black-robed Enforcers standing guard at the edge of the picture, too afraid to intercept Douglas as he approached.
Below the moving picture, the newspaper used exaggerated text to recount how Douglas single-handedly fought and defeated five Enforcers.
Ivan quickly scanned the article and realized the writer didn't know the full truth. They had based the story on Douglas's self-aggrandizement and the bits and pieces of information that had leaked from the Wizard Market.
But who had said they were going to keep it a secret?
Ivan felt he shouldn't have trusted that scoundrel Douglas in the first place, and now he was on the front page of Knockturn Alley's news.
"So, you went to the Wizard Market that day, not just to buy things, but also to cause a big commotion and beat up five Enforcers, and you didn't tell me when you got back!" Aisia slammed her hand on the table, furious.
"Technically, it was Douglas who started the trouble, and he was the one who did the fighting", Ivan said, blinking innocently.
"Look at this sentence", Aisia pointed to the fifth line of the article.
It clearly stated that the young Wizard who was with Douglas had easily defeated an adult male Wizard in the Wizard Market. The article even gave this incident a special section on the front page, as it was quite rare.
Ivan felt annoyed; he had forgotten that he had also used magic in the Wizard Market once. The five Enforcers had their memories erased by Douglas, but this male Wizard was an exception.
Faced with Aisia's questioning gaze, Ivan had no choice but to explain the whole situation, emphasizing that he had only provided minor assistance.
Just then, the bell hanging by the door rang, interrupting Aisia's further questioning.
"I'll go open the door. I'll ask you more after you finish eating", Aisia said, then turned and went downstairs.
Ivan finally breathed a sigh of relief. He needed to think about how to explain things later.
But who would come at this hour, before the shop opened?
Ivan thought for a moment, then waved his Wand, and the Shadow Unicorn reappeared.
After practicing for some time, he had become more adept at using it, and it no longer made the loud neighing sounds it used to.
Since maintaining the Shadow Unicorn in a semi-transparent state required minimal Magic Power, Ivan had been using it frequently to patrol the area and prevent any trouble.
The Shadow Unicorn passed through the wall and easily spotted the figure at the door. Ivan's lips twitched.
Why is he here?
On the first floor, in the Dark Magic Shop, Aisia opened the door.
There stood Douglas, whom they hadn't seen in days, with a large crate behind him. It was the Storage Box containing the Dementor.
"Douglas!" Seeing the visitor, Aisia's anger, which had been directed at Ivan, now shifted entirely to Douglas.
Douglas was well aware of the newspaper incident, waving his hand with a guilty expression.
"Aisia, this time it’s all my fault. If it weren’t for little Ivan's timely intervention two days ago, I might have been caught by those Enforcers."
Aisia had intended to scold Douglas for involving Ivan in a dangerous battle, but she froze when she heard his words.
The newspaper said he had single-handedly taken down five Enforcers, didn’t it?
Why did it sound like Douglas was suggesting that Ivan had done it?
Aisia turned her head toward the upstairs, puzzled. She remembered someone saying they had only done a minor assist.
"Didn’t little Ivan tell you?" Douglas asked, seeing Aisia’s movement.
He had asked Ivan to keep the news under wraps temporarily, planning to apologize in person after the matter was resolved. However, the plan and the actual outcome had diverged. Such a big event couldn’t be hidden, so he decided to take the blame and make a bigger fuss. He assumed that after the news broke, Ivan would have already told Aisia.
"No, so what really happened?" Aisia said through gritted teeth.
Douglas, feeling guilty, didn’t hide anything and recounted how he had gotten drunk and caused a commotion in the Wizard Market, eventually clashing with the Enforcement Squad.
Ivan’s use of the Shadow Unicorn during the battle left Douglas profoundly impressed. After finishing his story, he couldn’t help but marvel:
"I never knew the Hals Family had such a powerful spell. No wonder they use Dementors for practice."
The Hals Family has such a powerful spell? How come I didn’t know?
Aisia was thoroughly confused, especially when Douglas mentioned that Ivan had used a spell similar to a Patronus, effortlessly taking down several Enforcers without even showing his face. She almost thought Douglas was making it up.
You have to understand, the Enforcers in the Wizard Market are all professionally trained. While they may not be as strong as the Aurors from the Ministry of Magic, they are still far more powerful than the average Wizard.
"I doubt even that person could achieve this at such a young age", Douglas murmured, recalling someone who had once terrified him.
"By the way, I’ve never seen you use that spell before", Douglas asked curiously.
"That’s because I’m not very good at it", Aisia’s expression was odd, but she didn’t deny that the Shadow Unicorn was a Hals Family legacy spell.
"True, a spell of that caliber does require talent", Douglas nodded, assuming that only Ivan in the Hals Family could master such a mysterious and powerful magic.
Aisia fell silent for a moment, unsure how to deal with Douglas’s assumptions. After some thought, she turned and shouted upstairs:
"Ivan-Hals!"
There was a moment of silence from upstairs, followed by the sound of footsteps descending the stairs.
Ivan had heard Aisia and Douglas talking from upstairs and now had no choice but to come down. In front of Douglas, Aisia couldn’t directly ask her questions, so she gave Ivan a furious look, indicating that she wanted to know about the so-called powerful spell.
Ivan’s face was innocent as he returned her look.
Didn’t you know? My Patronus is just a bit special.
