Chapter 108: Welcome to Fairy Tail
Chapter 108: Welcome to Fairy Tail
The magical parade went off without a hitch.
As soon as everyone returned to the guild, a celebratory feast was immediately underway.
The guild hall buzzed with excitement as everyone gathered to toast the parade's success. Some members, still not satisfied with the festivities, donned costumes and danced in bizarre and entertaining ways. Others continued in their parade outfits, grabbing instruments and breaking into spontaneous songs.
The atmosphere was lively and chaotic, a perfect reflection of the Fairy Tail spirit.
Master Makarov, cross-legged on the counter, enjoyed his drinks while basking in the laughter and joy of the younger members. Before he knew it, he was thoroughly drunk.
Rod, who was busy serving tea and water, found himself constantly pulled aside by his guildmates for various toasts. This wasn't the typical "give me a face" drinking culture; it was a genuine expression of happiness, and Rod was happy to join in.
Initially, he was worried about getting drunk, but seeing everyone else in high spirits, he realized one more drunkard wouldn't make a difference.
As the night wore on, Rod let his guard down and embraced the festivities. He and Gray stuffed a beer filled with ice cubes into Natsu's mouth, watching him jump up from his sickly state and gag. In return, he and Natsu shoved scorching hot, spicy barbecued meat into Gray's mouth, almost causing the Ice Mage to burst into flames from the heat.
Of course, Rod wasn't immune to their mischief. Natsu and Gray chased him around the guild with ice cubes and charred meat, creating a whirlwind of chaos.
In a daze, Rod clinked glasses with someone's beer barrel and tried to snatch it to chug the contents. He stumbled into someone's arms, hearing a clatter as his already foggy mind became even more disoriented.
He joined a purple flame in stealing someone's pipe, only to be enveloped in smoke and flung across the room.
The cautious and level-headed Rod found himself doing things he would never normally do, releasing the pent-up stress he had been carrying for so long.
The small barriers and distances that had existed between him and the other guild members began to dissolve in the laughter and merriment.
Exhausted from the revelry, Rod slumped over the counter, grinning foolishly at the raucous scene.
Finally, Mira's smiling face appeared before him. She poured herself a drink but handed Rod a cup of warm water instead.
Rod just smiled at her, still dazed.
Mira grabbed Rod's hand holding the water cup and clinked it against her own drink. She downed her drink in one go, then wrapped an arm around Rod, resting his head in her crook while feeding him the warm water.
As Rod closed his eyes, he saw her radiant smile and heard her sweet voice:
"Welcome to Fairy Tail!"
...
"Careless! I actually got drunk!"
The next morning, Rod woke up groggily and almost leaped out of bed. However, he quickly noticed the overturned chairs and tables, and the guild hall was littered with sleeping members in various positions.
Some were face-down on the tables, others sprawled on the floor, and a few had their bodies on the ground with their legs draped over the tables, creating a comical sight.
"Ouch~~" Rod felt a throbbing headache, a clear sign of a hangover.
"Rod, you're awake?" Mira's voice called out. "Wait a moment, a warm glass of milk will help."
"Thanks." Rod held the milk, feeling a bit uneasy. "Um... Mira, did I do anything strange last night?"
"Strange things?" Mira thought for a moment and then grinned mischievously. "How about running around naked?"
"What?" Rod felt his brain explode, and he looked down in disbelief. "I-I'm still dressed, right?"
“Rod, I was talking about Gray.” Mira giggled. “Your expression just now was so amusing.”
“…” She definitely did that on purpose. Rod sulked and sipped his warm milk.
“If you’re talking about odd things, we’re all pretty much the same. We partied hard last night and only got to sleep around five.”
“Five? That’s nearly sunrise, right?”
“Yeah, hah~” Mira yawned. “It’s going to be a busy day today.”
Rod muttered under his breath, “Even your yawns are beautiful.”
Mira didn’t quite catch that. “What?”
“Nothing. I was just saying you should sleep a bit more. I’ll keep an eye on things here.”
Mira thought about it for a moment. “Alright, just for a little while. Wake me up if anyone else wakes up.”
“Sure. By the way, where’s the Master?”
“She left early. She’s going to see off Mr. Ajima and Master Guildmaster.”
Mira yawned again and didn’t bother going to the lounge. She propped her head on her arm and leaned on the counter. “Good night. Don’t forget to wake me up.”
“Good night.”
Rod tiptoed a few steps. Natsu and Gray were still tugging at each other’s cheeks in their sleep, while Happy was nuzzling the end of Natsu’s scarf, probably dreaming about fish. Cana was hugging a barrel of ale, Reby was sprawled out with her head on Laki’s lap, and even Erza was sound asleep on the table.
The guild was unusually quiet, with only the soft snores breaking the silence.
Rod sat down and watched Mira’s peaceful sleeping face. Her delicate features, the gentle flutter of her lashes, made him want to...
Draw a little turtle on her face.
What am I thinking? Rod stood up, went to the lounge, and found a blanket, gently draping it over Mira.
It was getting a bit chilly in early October.
After a moment's thought, Rod tiptoed over to Laxus and stealthily took his paint and brush.
Since he had nothing better to do, he might as well mess with Natsu a bit.
With his masterpiece complete, Natsu was still snoring away. He might as well take care of Gray too, and he couldn’t leave Happy out.
Pranks were surprisingly exhilarating!
Seeing Erza sleeping on the table, Rod couldn’t resist the urge to push his luck.
The brush slowly approached Erza’s cheek, and Rod’s hand started to tremble.
“Who’s there?” Erza’s eyes snapped open, her gaze sharp and focused on him.
“Ow~” Rod sucked in a breath. Erza’s grip was ironclad.
“Oh, it’s you, Rod. I’m sorry.” Erza’s eyes softened, and she released his wrist, standing up.
“Looks like everyone got pretty drunk.” Erza glanced around, her gaze sweeping over Natsu and Gray’s faces, and finally landing on the paintbrush in Rod’s hand. “What were you doing just now?”
“Cough... I thought they were being too lax. I wanted to leave a mark to remind them. I was going to ask you to join me...”
A terrible lie, riddled with holes. Any normal person would see right through it...
“Ah, I see!”
“What?”
“Using a prank to remind everyone that they shouldn’t let their guard down, even when they’re drunk. That’s a clever way to teach a lesson.”
Erza propped her chin on her hand, her eyes gleaming with understanding. “Rod, you’re truly thoughtful and always looking out for everyone!”
Oh no, sometimes Erza can be a bit serious and a bit naive, so she might not always fit into the category of a normal person.
Rod forced a laugh. “Hahaha, you’re right.”
