Chapter 1074: Taking Care of Three
Chapter 1074: Taking Care of Three
Boom!
The thunderous explosion sent a hurricane swirling up from the window. Twisted rebar and shattered stones danced in the storm.
Youxuan told the driver to stop. He opened the car door and stepped out onto the edge of the overpass, looking down at the scene.
"Is that the Fallen District?" Youxuan muttered to himself.
Having served as an official for a while, he had started to understand some of the city's conditions. The area below the bridge, near the city's edge, was the "Fallen District." It was mainly inhabited by people who had been marked but were temporarily released from the containment zones.
Those marked as outcasts had little chance of surviving in the city. Yet, they were unwilling to be sent to the Satellite Zone. Many of them lingered in the area between the city and the Satellite Zone, gradually forming what is now known as the "Fallen District."
At that moment, a massive hurricane, like a black pillar, pierced the sky, its violent vortex tearing through the space, filled with rebar and debris. The already dilapidated buildings in the Fallen District were further torn apart, ancient brick walls shattering like paper under the wind pressure, and concrete fragments turning into circular weapons, slicing through the remaining structures.
Emerging from the hurricane were thick, writhing vines, like giant sutures, piercing through the buildings.
"Vines?" Youxuan had already guessed the source of the chaos.
Sure enough, below the wind pressure, the residents of the Fallen District were fleeing in all directions. Someone shouted, "Witch! It's the witch!"
"The Black Rose Witch has appeared!"
The writhing tentacles cut through the smoke, and the vines summoned by the Duel Disk System were not holograms but solid entities, their movements accompanied by powerful hurricanes. The once crowded square was soon left with only one figure.
A graceful female form, cloaked in a wide black robe. She wore a hood, with long pink hair spilling out from under the brim, and a white mask covering her face, hiding her from head to toe.
"There you are, the second one", Youxuan chuckled.
He knew she was one of the Dragon Marked he was looking for, the female protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's—if the term "protagonist" could be applied to a character like Yusei's story—Shizukana Akizuki.
Unlike the traditional Darkness Duelists from the previous two series, who could materialize spirits, Akizuki had no Darkness powers. Instead, she was a "Psychic Duelist." This ability, akin to a genetic mutation, allowed her to manifest the powers of her cards in the real world from a young age.
However, she couldn't control this ability. Whenever she used a card, the effect would trigger automatically. It was similar to how Duelists in the GX series operated in the spirit dimension, where everything was tangible.
She had hurt many people due to her uncontrollable psychic powers, living in the scorn and contempt of others, earning the title of "Witch." Even her own parents were afraid of her, leading to a falling out and her eventual departure from home. In the end, with Yusei's help, she reconciled with her family.
Of course, she was also a Dragon Marked. However, her psychic powers seemed to be innate and not necessarily linked to the power of the Red Dragon. But because she was born with both the Dragon Mark and psychic powers, she instinctively blamed the Dragon Mark for her problems. She despised her own powers and the Dragon Mark on her arm, referring to it as a "cursed mark."
Yusei paused on the overpass, watching as Akizuki wreaked havoc and then disappeared from the square. Youxuan didn't go down to intervene or directly invite her to the tournament. Sending an invitation now might make her participate, but it was not certain.
But that was no problem. Youxuan had a more reliable method to ensure her attendance.
Even as a mastermind, strategy was essential.
For now, it was better to invite someone more certain.
Back at the Security Bureau, Youxuan headed deep into the building to a restricted area, off-limits even to Deputy Chief Ego.
Almost no one in the entire bureau knew that such a facility existed. A dark, laboratory-like room filled with various unknown precision instruments and equipment.
At the center of the room was a tank filled with liquid, and floating inside was a hand.
Yes, a hand, severed at the elbow. The arm bore a clear Dragon Mark, specifically the "Dragon Head Mark", the head of the crimson dragon totem, symbolizing the leader of the Dragon Marked.
In the later episodes of the series, this Dragon Mark was transferred to Yusei, moved by his qualities and the red dragon. Before that, the original owner of the Dragon Head Mark was Rudger, the older brother of Chief Goodwin and the first to awaken as a Dragon Marked.
Rudger was once a scientist who worked alongside Dr. Kurogami, Yusei's father, on the perpetual motion machine. In the catastrophic "Zero Reverse" incident that tore Domino City in half and separated the Satellite District, Rudger was consumed by the power of Yeshin. His body became a battleground for the red dragon and Yeshin, the forces of good and evil.
Rudger suffered immensely, and in the end, Yeshin's power gained the upper hand. Rudger severed his arm bearing the Dragon Mark and entrusted it to his brother Goodwin, subsequently becoming the leader of the Dark Marked.
Although it was just an arm, this Dragon Mark was now in his possession. With Yusei, who had agreed to participate in the Lucky Cup, he now had two Dragon Marks.
As for the third...
Ego's communication came through: "The King has arrived, Chief."
"Good."
Youxuan responded, ending the call and exiting the room to return to the main hall. A tall man with golden hair sat arrogantly on the sofa, his leg propped up.
This was Jack Atlas, the male lead of 5D's, the strongest Duelist with the title of King, and also one of the Dragon Marked.
"What's going on, Goodwin?" Jack frowned. "This clown says you invited Yusei?"
Deputy Chief Ego, despite being called a clown, didn't take offense, maintaining his smug smile and standing silently to the side.
"That night, we all know about the Duel between the King and the man from the Satellite District, Yusei Fudo. We also know that since the King came to Neo Domino City, you've been searching for a worthy opponent, but have yet to find one.
And Yusei Fudo is precisely the man who can satisfy you, isn't he?"
Youxuan said, giving Ego a nod. Ego quickly pulled out an envelope and handed it to Jack.
"I invited Yusei to satisfy the King's hunger", Youxuan explained. "You've been waiting for this moment for so long, haven't you?"
Jack remained silent for a few seconds before reaching for the envelope.
He grunted, "This is for my dignity as a Duelist, not for you, Goodwin."
Youxuan smiled, "Of course, I understand. Feel free to battle, King."
Jack was on board.
Three down, two to go.
So the next target...
Youxuan glanced out the window at a towering building in Neo Domino City.
Shizukana Akatsuki.
