Chapter 1073: Throne Rotation
Chapter 1073: Throne Rotation
"Oh~ I saw everything from below earlier! You really pulled out all the stops. Impressive, Kuro."
Lucius Kro puffed his lips, then without ceremony took the main seat Kuro had pulled out for him.
Kuro smiled and stepped back, leaning close to Klah as he whispered, "Where's my gift?"
"It's being prepared. I contacted Sazil— he's on his way." Klah whispered in reply.
Nodding, Kuro's smile returned as he turned to the crowd. "My Gramps' birthday celebration has drawn so many guests. I'll thank you all in advance for your support!"
Crane let out a soft chuckle. "With you hosting, attendance was inevitable. It's rare to see such a grand event outside official meetings."
"Everyone's just being gracious", Kuro replied, patting his chest. "Klah, tell the staff— for the next seven days, all eating, drinking, and entertainment here are on me!"
"Yes, Kuromr. I'll relay the message immediately." Klah nodded before departing.
The Navy rarely held banquets. Unlike pirates, they had no time for such frivolities. Even after victories like the Top War, they'd merely cheer briefly before resuming duties.
Unofficial gatherings like this were unusual. These kinds of grand feasts usually occurred only when close associates privately congregated. Today, with someone generous enough to host, everyone gladly accepted the hospitality.
After all, even Navy officers needed rest. If they spent every day fighting pirates or completing missions, they'd burn out— they weren't machines.
"Vice Admiral! Vice Admiral! He's here!"
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed outside. Sazil burst in carrying something golden, nearly stumbling as he entered. "Vice Admiral, this... this..."
"Clumsy!" Kuro frowned. "Klah!"
"Understood."
Klah vanished and reappeared beside Sazil, steadying the golden object. Shooting Sazil a sharp look, he said, "Take your leave and eat."
"Yes."
The moment Sazil felt the weight lift from his hands, he obediently retreated.
Klah carried the item to Kuro, presenting it. "Kuromr.", he announced.
This thing...
Kuro examined it—a miniature palace carved from solid Gold. Every detail was meticulously sculpted: grand halls, pillars, and most strikingly, a tiny Throne at its center. Roughly the size of a three-month-old infant, it required both hands to hold.
"Why this?"
Kuro recognized it immediately. This piece had been crafted alongside Gold jewelry—necklaces, Golden Rings, Goldcrowns, and Gold scepters. Some artisan had independently created this masterpiece.
"This was the largest one." Klah murmured.
Taking the Goldpalace, Kuro approached Lucius Kro with a smile. Bowing slightly, he said, "Gramps, for your birthday celebration, I offer these Spoils I acquired earlier. May this humble gift bring you joy."
"Offer gifts from someone else's spoils?"
Garp blinked. Sengoku laughed heartily, "Ah, that's what he meant!"
"Old man, it's just a saying", Sengoku cackled.
Lucius Kro adjusted his sunglasses, revealing twinkling eyes as he inspected the gift. "A fine present. The old man accepts it."
Sengoku chuckled, eyeing the miniature city. "That Throne... clever choice, Kuro. You understand more than I thought."
"Huh?" Kuro frowned. He'd just given a gift— what was there to 'understand'?
The piece was undeniably magnificent— grand, imposing, and artistically striking.
"As long as Gramps likes it." Kuro smiled, handing it back to Klah, who took it and stepped aside.
With no janitors around, they'd store it temporarily before delivering it to Lucius Kro later.
Crane's gaze lingered on the golden city. "Indeed... the Throne— once vacated, always finds a new occupant. Generations pass, yet the legacy endures."
"Huh? What'd you mean, Popo?" Kuro turned.
He offered another Yi Xiao. "Just remarking how we're aging."
The Navy's core and former leadership all hovered around sixty. Only Kuro, the new generation, radiated youthful vitality. These veterans could now entrust the next chapter of their mission to him.
Kuro felt uneasy under their collective smiles. Why did these old men always grin like that? It was creeping him out.
"Let's eat, let's eat. Stop staring!"
Kuro chuckled awkwardly, waving Klah away with the Goldpalace. Settling into his seat, he waited as servers poured food. Soon, the entire banquet hall erupted in feasting.
He raised his cup casually. "First drink—to you all!"
No one acknowledged him properly. Garp was already devouring food, snatching a dish from Sengoku's plate and triggering a furious tirade. Crane instinctively shielded his own meal, drawing amused smiles.
Despite their age, the camaraderie remained vibrant.
Sakazuki and Lucius Kro raised their glasses with Kuro.
This gathering excluded Yi Xiao Brother and Tatsumaki— the former on an unknown mission, the latter likely too lazy to attend. Kuro had extended the invitation, but attendance was their choice.
Essentially, this was a traditional Navy faction reunion— no room for World Recruitment allies.
"Kuro." Sakazuki set down his cup. "Borsalino's stepping down. You know what to do."
Silence fell. All eyes turned to Kuro.
He forced a smile. "Let's not discuss this today, alright? We'll talk after the celebration. The Five Elders haven't decided anything yet. There's still time..."
A sudden flutter interrupted his thoughts. A news bird soared in, dropping newspapers. Two fluttered through the balcony and landed in the hall.
