Chapter 107: Might Guy's Heavy Blow (35)
Chapter 107: Might Guy's Heavy Blow (35)
Five more days passed, and Might Guy still hadn't found that elusive feeling he was seeking.
On Wednesday's training session, Might Guy, Itachi, and Shisui gathered to discuss their progress with the breathing technique.
"Guy, try to imagine the feeling of eating a hot bowl of ramen, feeling the warmth spread through your belly," Obito suggested, trying to impart his successful experience to Guy.
"Just follow Obito's advice, Guy, but remember to stick to what Mu Yue taught you. Although they are both breathing techniques, they are probably quite different," Itachi offered.
If the two techniques were similar, Mu Yue would have just taught them one method; there was no need to complicate things by separating their training.
"Yeah, Mu Yue said that our progress is normal so far. The Rock Breathing Technique is a bit more challenging than the one you guys are practicing," Guy nodded in agreement.
His mental fortitude was admirable, considering it had only been ten days.
When Guy was learning the clone technique, it took him almost until the end of his second year to create a clone that was identical to his body and could move independently.
And even after nearly three years, he hadn't given up. Ten days were nothing to him.
Even if it took a thousand days, as long as Mu Yue didn't instruct him to train something else, he would persist. He firmly believed that consistent effort would always lead to success.
After all, he was Mu Yue's recognized hard-working genius!
"Hehe, then you better step up your game, Guy. I won't go easy on you just because your breathing technique is harder during our practical exam in three days," Obito chuckled.
The special summer training was nearing its conclusion, and with Friday's session, it would officially end. A final practical test was scheduled for Saturday.
Even if one hadn't completely mastered the breathing technique, it could still enhance their strength. With a head start on the breathing technique, Obito knew Guy wouldn't stand a chance against him.
He wouldn't need to rely on tactics like the Perspective Clone Technique; he could win with sheer power.
"Haha, youth is all about giving it your all in battle!" Guy flashed his brilliant white teeth in a thumbs-up to Obito.
If Obito backed down, Guy would be disappointed. He believed that fighting with everything you had was what youth was all about.
After the afternoon training session, Guy returned home.
Might Dai, seeing his sweaty son, laughed heartily, "Guy, you've been working hard to become stronger today, too!"
"Wait here, I'll go buy some meat to cook for you. You're at the age where you need plenty of meat to help you grow."
"Just get some cheap vegetables; we can't have much money left," Guy interjected.
Might Dai was just a genin, and without anyone willing to team up with him, D-rank missions were hard to come by. He couldn't be earning much.
Although Guy didn't know the specifics of his father's work, he was aware of their financial struggles.
"Don't worry about that. You just focus on your training," Might Dai said, giving Guy a thumbs-up and a smile before heading out to the market.
Guy hesitated for a moment before deciding to follow his father.
If they truly didn't have enough money, he would step in and convince his father to buy cheaper vegetables.
Guy followed Might Dai to the market.
Once they arrived, Might Dai made a beeline for the butcher shop.
"How much is your meat?" Might Dai asked the butcher.
The butcher stood up and glanced at Might Dai before replying, "One hundred and two ryo per pound."
He then picked up his knife and asked, "How many pounds do you want?"
Instead of stating a quantity, Might Dai haggled, "It's almost evening, and your meat can't be that fresh anymore. One hundred and two ryo is too expensive."
"Alright, I'll give you a deal. Ninety-seven ryo per pound," the butcher offered.
"Alright, alright, how about this? I'll lower it further to ninety-three liang per catty," the butcher hastily stopped him.
"Eighty liang per catty," Might Dai shook his head.
"You're haggling me down by twenty liang all at once. That's a bit too much," the butcher replied, his face showing his reluctance.
Might Dai immediately turned around and pretended to leave once more.
"Alright, alright! Eighty liang per catty it is. I can't go any lower or I'll be making a loss," the butcher stopped him again.
"Then, give me forty liang worth of meat," Might Dai said with a victorious smile.
"You only want forty liang worth?" The butcher's chopping motion paused.
"I've never seen such a stingy ninja who haggles this much," the butcher couldn't help but complain. Ninjas generally had higher calorie requirements due to their rigorous training, so it was uncommon to see someone buy so little.
"Thank you for the compliment!" Might Dai gave the butcher a thumbs up and smiled.
"A genin for life will always be a genin for life. Buying some meat takes so much time, and he only wants forty liang worth," two passing ninjas who witnessed the scene scoffed disdainfully.
"No one would want to entrust missions to someone like him," said the taller and skinnier ninja.
"He's lacking in every aspect, from his ninjutsu to his behavior. If I were a client, I wouldn't trust someone like that with a mission either," the slightly fatter ninja nodded in agreement.
In the face of their scorn, Might Dai merely smiled and gave them a thumbs up before heading home to cook for his son.
While Might Dai didn't mind, Might Guy, who had been hiding nearby, was starting to get angry.
He recalled an incident three years ago when he and his father were mocked in the streets. On that occasion, an infuriated Might Guy had wanted to stand up for his father, but his lack of strength had resulted in him getting beaten up. It was only Kakashi's timely arrival that saved him.
Now, facing a similar situation, Might Guy wasn't sure if he could take on these two fully-fledged ninjas, or if Kakashi would appear again. However, he knew he had to act.
He knew that his father would not eat any of the forty liang worth of meat he had bought, leaving it all for Might Guy to consume.
How could he, as a son, tolerate others looking down on and insulting his father, the man who had raised him?
Might Guy followed the two ninjas who had mocked his father out of the market and onto a nearby street.
"Three sentences," Might Guy said coldly to the two ninjas.
The taller ninja turned around, confused, and upon seeing Might Guy in an outfit similar to his father's, he scoffed, "Kid, what's with this three sentences nonsense? You and your dad are quite the pair of oddballs."
"This kid seems to be attending the Ninja Academy, and from what I hear, he's a real loser," the slightly plump ninja laughed.
"What a perfect match, a genin for life and a loser son," they laughed together.
"I have a rule for myself," Might Guy said, extending his fingers. "If someone insults my father, I must repay them with five punches. You've already said two sentences, so that's five sentences now."
"Brat, take advantage of my good mood and scram. One sentence, five punches? Do you even have the skill to back up those words?" the taller ninja sneered.
How dare this brat, who wasn't even a graduate yet, spout such arrogant words to them, fully-fledged ninjas?
Might Guy chose to answer with his feet.
