Chapter 107: Disillusionment Charm
Chapter 107: Disillusionment Charm
As Kyle had suspected, someone had set Hagrid up. He had gone to the Room of Requirement and placed the two Snapping Dragons into a modified Niffler pouch that Newt had given him as a Christmas gift. The pouch, similar to the box, was designed to hold magical creatures, so plants would pose no issue. It was just a tad small.
During their escape earlier, Kyle had stealthily placed the pouch in the nearby bushes, intending to set a trap for the witch, but unexpectedly, it came in handy against Oren.
One could call it an unexpected bonus.
On the other side, Oren was rolling frantically on the ground. His legs were paralyzed, and he could only dodge the two rabid Snapping Dragons by writhing about. Simultaneously, he had to deflect the constant stream of Expelliarmus and Stunning Spells coming from Kyle.
"Damn it!" Oren managed to block another Expelliarmus, but not before one of the dragons bit him. Finally, he cast his first spell.
"Incendio!"
Although using a fire spell would give away his position, Oren couldn't worry about that now.
Scarlet flames erupted from his wand, charring the surfaces of the Snapping Dragons, soon rendering them immobile.
"I admit, I underestimated you," Oren said, sitting atop a platform of leaves he had conjured, his eyes cold and emotionless. He raised his hand, and the leaves transformed into sharp blades that hurtled toward Kyle.
"Bombarda!" Kyle pointed his wand at the ground, causing a violent explosion and a cloud of dust to obscure their vision.
"Blocking my line of sight?" Oren sneered. "A clever idea, but where do you plan to hide?"
The blades rained down into the dust cloud, and with such a dense range attack, he didn't need to know Kyle's exact location.
A smirk played on Oren's lips. "It ends here..."
"Stuporfy!"
A voice suddenly rang out from behind Oren, causing his heart to lurch. He recognized it—it was Kyle!
But how was that possible? How had Kyle appeared behind him? Oren's thoughts screamed in protest, but it was too late to turn around now.
"Bang!"
A dull thud reverberated, and a green creature, resembling an opened umbrella, appeared behind Oren, shielding him from the near-perfectly aimed Stunning Spell.
Kyle felt a surge of sweetness in his chest and gritted his teeth, fighting the discomfort in his body. "A Bowtruckle... It didn't go after Connor!"
"Hehe, who told you it was chasing the girl?" Oren turned, a hint of amusement in his tone. "I just wanted you to guess its location."
"First the Snapping Dragons, now the Disillusionment Charm in battle... I must say, Kyle, you've given me far too many surprises today!"
"Compared to you, I wasted my first year here. As a reward, I've decided to let you go..."
"You're letting me go..." Kyle laughed, "Do you think you could kill me?"
Oren remained silent. Before, he couldn't say for sure, but now, it was clear that killing Kyle wouldn't be easy.
While continuing the duel might provide an opportunity, he didn't have much time left. The Ministry officials would be arriving soon.
Yet, Oren didn't want to leave just yet.
Failing to kill an eleven-year-old wizard and being forced to retreat instead? If this got out, his reputation would be ruined.
If it had been five minutes earlier, he would have bolted without a second thought, but things were different now. He couldn't just swallow this humiliation.
Being threatened, deceived, and mocked... he had never been treated so badly in his life, and his stubborn nature wouldn't let him back down.
Besides, it was no longer him who was in a hurry. They were in the Forbidden Forest...
"You're asking for it!" Oren's lips twitched wildly as he recognized the Billywig that had just landed on Kyle's shoulder as the one he had discarded earlier. Oren raised his wand, a green light gathering at its tip, "Avada..."
"Swish!"
An arrow sliced through the air, forcing Oren to retract his wand to avoid having his arm pierced.
"Clatter, clatter..."
The sound of approaching hoofbeats filled the air as a group of centaurs burst from the bushes. They brandished their bows, aiming sharp arrows at Kyle and Oren.
Most of the arrows were pointed at Oren, as some of the centaurs recognized Kyle.
"You're one of the students from the castle. What are you doing here, and who is he?" Ferenze asked cautiously, stepping forward.
"He's a Dark Wizard!" Kyle replied quickly. "He's the one who stole the baby unicorn, and he used an Unforgivable Curse!"
In the next instant, all the centaurs' bows were aimed at Oren.
At the same time, a series of loud bangs reverberated through the forest.
The Ministry officials had arrived.
"You're lucky!" Oren suddenly smiled. "Fine, I concede."
He threw a cloth bag to Kyle, which contained the baby unicorn.
The tiny golden unicorn curled up quietly, seemingly asleep.
"It's you!" A Hit Wizard stepped forward, gritting his teeth. "Oren Morris!"
He was the same Hit Wizard Captain who had tried to arrest Hagrid before.
"Well, if it isn't the brave and kind Hit Wizard again," Oren said with a smile. "You had the chance to capture me last time, but you let me go. I'm grateful for your leniency... Oh, sorry, I forgot that you idiots only care about the Hippogriffs and didn't bother to find out who I am.
So, thank you again, brave Hit Wizard."
"You're not getting away this time!"
Hadd raised his wand at Oren. "I'll personally escort you to Azkaban, and we'll see if you can still smile when you're facing the Dementors."
"Sorry, I don't like Dementors. Any chance I can skip that?" Oren sighed. "If possible, I'd rather stay at Hogwarts. Being the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is quite interesting."
"That's not up to you!"
Hadd waved his hand, and all the Hit Wizards raised their wands.
"Stunning Spell!"
"Disarm!"
"Binding Spell!"
...
Over a dozen spells flew toward Oren from all directions.
"What a pity, I haven't finished grading the papers yet..."
Oren sighed once more, and the platform of leaves he was sitting on suddenly collapsed.
Without support, Oren's body began to fall, allowing him to dodge all the spells.
The next moment...
"Crack!"
The familiar bang echoed through the Forbidden Forest, and Oren's figure disappeared.
