Chapter 1064
David didn’t speak, and before he could, the call disconnected on the other end.
He stared at the Transponder Snail for a moment, then suddenly looked up at the sky, his expression frozen in silence.
“What’s wrong?” Cyrus, who was behind him, noticed this and walked over to ask.
Cyrus’s severed leg had since been replaced with a mechanical leg. As a swordsman with considerable combat power, David naturally wouldn’t let such strength go to waste. Back when he’d lacked a leg, he’d nearly ambushed Donquixote Doflamingo with a single sword strike to the head. With the rise of the new Dressrosa, David had naturally arranged for someone to craft him a mechanical leg.
The leg itself housed built-in weaponry, and with this support, Cyrus’s combat power affirmation would be higher than before. In the newly established Dressrosa, Cyrus ranked second in combat strength.
David glanced at him before slowly saying, “Lord is becoming an Admiral.”
“Lord?” Cyrus understood immediately. This referred to the Navy’s Golden Lion Vice Admiral, King David’s superior whom he respectfully addressed as “Lord.”
“An Admiral?” Cyrus nodded. “That’s certainly worth celebrating. Our newborn Dressrosa owes him much, so we should send a grand gift.”
He didn’t know many details, but he understood that without Kuro’s early choice of king, David wouldn’t have ascended the throne. Though there had been some friction back then, King David had proven his worth through decisive actions, demonstrating the true nature of a king and revitalizing Dressrosa.
How much better things were now! Dressrosa’s influence had grown immense, its residents flourished, and they had begun embracing Justice as their faith. When faced with wickedness, they no longer fled but resisted.
Cyrus himself often read Justice Faith, a book that had nearly become his spiritual pillar.
He didn’t know the author, though. King David never spoke of it, so it was likely someone outside Dressrosa. If that person could join Dressrosa, it would be ideal.
“A gift?” David murmured to himself, his lips curling as he gazed toward the Grand Line, determination flashing in his eyes. “That’s perfect. My gifts have always been one-of-a-kind!”
He still felt some guilt. He hadn’t yet fulfilled Lord’s wish. If he could complete that task and present it as a gift for the Admiral promotion, Lord would surely be delighted. His offerings were never like others’—Lord’s long-cherished wish was his sole mission.
But there was still time. For Lord, becoming an Admiral was not the end. There were more paths ahead. For now, a grand gesture would suffice for Lord!
“Haven’t we found the Vinsmoke Family yet?” David asked gravely.
“We’re still searching. We’ve dispatched many patrol ships,” Cyrus replied.
“Speed up the search. The time affirmation for Lord’s promotion won’t be long. Someone already mentioned it to me, so it’s probably within days—maybe slightly longer, but I can’t confirm. We must act quickly. Deploy more ships from the fleet to continue searching!”
He’d already been here a long time. The Vinsmoke had been stripped of their World Government status and were now pirates, a mobile nation. The vast North Blue couldn’t be searched overnight. But as King, David had received intelligence from the World Government, narrowing the search to several key regions.
“I understand. I’ll issue the orders right away!” Cyrus nodded, pulling out his Transponder Snail to start coordinating.
Meanwhile, David thought of something and dialed another Transponder Snail himself.
The snail’s screen flickered to life, displaying a disheveled figure emitting a deep voice: “Hey.”
“Joshua,” David said, “I need to tell you something. Our Lord, Lucius Kro, is being promoted to Admiral. Have you prepared a gift for him?”
The snail’s screen remained silent for a moment. “How long do I have?”
“As soon as possible.”
“I’ll make it happen. I’ll present a third of the Astartes as a gift.”
“Only a third?” David frowned. “If you’d accepted our aid earlier, you might’ve claimed the entire Astartes.”
“We don’t have enough time affirmation. Don’t be naive, David. The Astartes must unify under their own people. Don’t try directing me—you’re only Debang’s Steward, not Debang’s Imperial Throne. The Imperial Throne isn’t ready to sit yet. We have time.”
“I admire the Imperial Throne and believe in his philosophy, which is why I joined Debang. But you have no authority to command me. I only follow the Imperial Throne’s orders, and he’s still lurking in the shadows. So I’ll do as I please.”
“I’ll prepare the gift—a third of the Astartes, the Faya Principality. That’s enough!”
After the snail’s message ended, David replied, “If you have your own plans, proceed. No need for support. But don’t fail, especially not at this critical moment!”
“I’m the Emperor of the Astartes!”
Click!
The Transponder Snail disconnected. David stared at the darkened screen, shaking his head with a faint smile.
Faritear Joshua—he had been contacted earlier. A man of great strength and individuality, he had initially refused to be absorbed into Dressrosa, claiming he lacked bloodline and legitimacy, thus no rights to rule. But when Lord ordered the contact, David had to comply.
In the end, when negotiations stalled, David had resorted to offering the book Justice Faith in hopes of changing Joshua’s mind. He’d sensed a kindred spirit, albeit with room for persuasion.
If that failed, he’d planned to use military force to subdue Faya Principality, even if Joshua refused to surrender. But fortunately, upon seeing the book, Joshua had been awestruck. Recognizing it as a translation, he’d demanded the original—the Justice’s Words. From then on, he’d devoted himself to the cause, believing Lord to be a chosen one, a being of higher intellect and vision, and promptly agreed to join Debang, raising an army.
His condition, however, was rejecting Dressrosa’s involvement. He insisted the Astartes must unify through their own strength, ensuring a clean victory and awakening their people. David had agreed.
He couldn’t change Joshua’s mind, and Joshua wasn’t weak. In combat, he could easily crush Faya Principality. Letting him proceed independently was acceptable, as long as he acknowledged Debang’s, and thus Dressrosa’s, supremacy. The method mattered less.
For now, David’s goal was securing more nations’ allegiance. The rest could wait.
“Your Majesty!” Cyrus suddenly ran over, shouting, “We’ve found the Vinsmoke Family!”
“Found them?” David clenched his fist, eyes blazing. “Then let’s go! In three days, I want the Vinsmoke’s submission!”
As a gift for Lord, he would claim their entire technology!
