Chapter 1060: Godwin's Second Chance
Chapter 1060: Godwin's Second Chance
"You can't be serious."
Godwin's expression twitched.
He finally understood. This explained why the guy's deck had so many monsters that couldn't be Normal Summoned, and why he had been frantically sending cards to the Graveyard from the start.
Of course, it wasn't an infinite loop. The Modular Dragon's Special Summon had no limit per turn, but each summon required three earth attribute monsters to be removed from the Graveyard. In other words, the number of earth attribute monsters in the Graveyard was the "ammunition." Every three shots allowed the Electromagnetic Turtle to fire once, dealing 1250 damage per shot.
As far as Godwin knew, Youxuan's Graveyard already contained at least three Electromagnetic Stone Warriors, three Magnet Warriors, one Electromagnetic Mad God, and one Electromagnetic War God, totaling eight shots of ammunition.
And that didn't even count the various other earth attribute monsters that had been sent to the Graveyard.
Each shot dealt 1250 damage, and Godwin's Life Points were only 3000. Just three shots would bring his Life Points to a negative number.
"Do you think you've won?"
Godwin said darkly.
"Electromagnetic Turtle, do you really think I'll be killed by something like this?"
"Don't be ridiculous!"
"I came here, and I was given a second chance. How could it end here?"
Godwin shouted, activating another back-row card.
"Activate Cover Card! Counter Trap—Fierce Flare!" Godwin declared. "Select one monster on the opponent's field and negate its effect when it activates, then destroy it!"
This Counter Trap from the anime could negate and destroy any effect monster's effect without any cost, making it a very powerful card.
"Damn turtle, disappear!" Godwin shouted. "Negate Electromagnetic Turtle's effect and destroy it!"
A dark red flame enveloped the Electromagnetic Turtle, quickly burning it to pieces and dispersing it into light.
Youxuan raised his arm to shield himself from the explosion, raising an eyebrow. "Oh, you managed to break that combo. Not bad at all."
Pausing, he tilted his head to look at Godwin.
"What do you mean by a second chance?"
Godwin remained silent.
"I have a friend who always says dueling is a way to connect hearts, that once you duel, everyone is friends." Youxuan shrugged. "I don't entirely agree with that.
But we've come this far in our duel. So don't be so stingy, share your story. For example, are you really Rex Godwin?"
Godwin pondered for a moment. "Why don't you tell me who you are first."
"Me? I'm Youxuan Fujiki, a Duel King from another dimension."
There was no point in hiding it, so Youxuan was straightforward.
"A Duelist from another dimension."
Godwin nodded, surprisingly not questioning the claim. This caught Youxuan off guard.
Could people from other worlds be common here?
"I am Rex Godwin. But you're right, I don't belong here", Godwin said calmly. "I tried, I tried to gain the power of a god and use it to fight against fate."
Godwin glanced at his right hand, almost as if speaking to himself.
"But now I realize that I was wrong, fundamentally wrong. Fate cannot be defied. The only thing mere mortals, as insignificant as ants, are allowed to do is to go with the flow of fate and accept it with joy."
As he spoke, the eyes of the Dark Marked seemed to grow even darker and deeper, and when he raised his gaze, it felt almost like that of the Grim Reaper.
Youxuan's heart skipped a beat. "Did you travel back in time from the future?"
Godwin had mentioned trying to obtain the power of a god, which sounded like the final battle in the original story where the Dark Marked faced off against the Dragon Marked. Godwin had gathered the powers of both the Dragon Marked and the Dark Marked, which had been at odds since ancient times, in an attempt to become an ultimate being with the combined might of two deities. But in the end, he was defeated and killed by Yusei and his companions.
Perhaps the history of this world had deviated, causing Godwin, who should have died, to not only survive his defeat by Yusei but also travel through time to this point, gaining a second chance?
Suddenly, some of the doubts that had been nagging Youxuan began to make sense.
For example, why had Godwin, at this point in time, already become a Dark Marked and possessed the power of the Earthbound God. If he had traveled back in time after already obtaining the power of the Earthbound God, it wouldn’t be surprising.
Another point was why Godwin was so eager to eliminate Yusei, deviating from his original plans. A Godwin who had already failed once and traveled back in time would naturally have different ideas and plans.
But Godwin was no longer answering his questions. "Your killer combo has been broken again. Feel free to use any more of your dirty tricks.
But they will be useless against me, who has already obtained the power of a god!"
"You sure are confident", Youxuan said. "Then, I'll activate the Magic Card 'Foolish Burial' to send a monster card from my Deck to the Graveyard."
Youxuan drew a monster card that had popped out of his Deck.
"I'm sending 'Absolute King J Revolution' from my Deck to the Graveyard."
A phantom appeared on the field, a monster with golden hair and a hairstyle that clearly indicated it was a skilled duelist, dressed in a white robe with a glider-like device on its back. Though masked, it was easy to recognize the prototype as Jack Atlas, the second male lead from 5D's.
This was a new card Youxuan had acquired earlier that day, and Jack himself had used it in the anime.
At the time, Jack was the hottest king in New Domino City, and his merchandise was everywhere. This card was one of the many products based on him, specifically designed with his image in mind.
"When 'Absolute King J Revolution' is sent to the Graveyard, I can check the top three cards of my Deck."
Youxuan drew three cards.
"Then, I can return these three cards to the top of my Deck in any order I choose."
He had already looked at the three cards and smoothly returned them to the top of his Deck.
"By changing the order at the top of my Deck, I can influence the cards I draw next turn."
Godwin closed his eyes slightly, a mocking smile on his face.
"But fate isn’t so easily changed. It may seem like you’ve altered the cards you’ll draw next turn, but it won’t affect the predetermined outcome."
Youxuan wasn’t fazed at all, just smiled and said, "Is that so? I invite you to see for yourself if fate truly is as unchangeable as you say.
I’ll place one more card face-down on the field, and my turn is over."
