Chapter 106
Chapter 106
“This is delicious, and that one over there is pretty good too, but it might not be to your taste.”
Mira had finished her business and decided to go shopping, asking Warren to help her contact Rod.
So, Rod became her tour guide.
Mira held a few snacks in her hands and smiled. “I was thinking about taking you to the festival, but now you’re the one showing me around. You even know the taste of the food from each stall.”
“Because I just spent the whole street with Worm, trying almost everything.”
Rod grimaced. If he had known, he wouldn’t have been so greedy and could have enjoyed the treats with Mira later.
That greedy Worm, now his wallet and stomach were both feeling the strain.
Mira glanced down the street, estimating the number of food stalls. “You really went through a lot.”
“Who asked me to take care of it?” Rod had already sent the well-fed Worm back to take a nap. “By the way, is there anything else to do at the guild?”
Mira replied, “I just assigned everyone their tasks for the parade and need to prepare the victory banquet.”
“Looks like I won’t have anything to do for the magical parade.” Rod felt a bit disappointed but also expected it, being a new member and all.
Mira looked at him curiously. “Why would you think you don’t have a task?”
“Because no one told me what to do…” Rod looked at Mira. “Oh, this was your responsibility, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah, that’s why I’m here to tell you.” Mira scooped a large spoonful of shaved ice and stuffed it into her mouth with a smile.
“Mmm~~~” She closed her eyes and lightly tapped her head. “So cool, so refreshing.”
She looked kind of cute.
“So, what do I have to do? Am I really supposed to release wild monsters?”
“Pretty much.” Mira explained Rod’s task in detail. It wasn’t too difficult, but it might be a bit troublesome.
Since everyone else was contributing, Rod didn’t have any reason to back out.
“You agreed surprisingly easily. To show my appreciation, um… how about I treat you to some food?” Mira took out a box of small dumplings from the bag on her wrist and pushed it towards Rod.
“I’d love to, but…” Rod grimaced. “Thanks to Worm, I can only manage a couple of bites of shaved ice now.”
“Shaved ice is fine too.” Mira put the box away and scooped up a spoonful of shaved ice. “Ah…”
Mira, are you serious?
Rod hesitated for a fraction of a second, then delicately ate it. “Mmm, delicious.”
Mira’s ears turned a bit red, but her long hair hid it. She suddenly felt something was off.
She had just done that without thinking…
It’s fine, it’s just feeding someone a bite of food.
Nothing to worry about, Erza bathed with Natsu and Gray when they were kids.
It’s all small stuff.
Mira quietly scooped a small spoonful of shaved ice into her own mouth, then considered whether to use a new spoon.
No, it’s already like this, and it would be weird to change now.
Besides, they had already shared cups at the cafe last time, so it’s no big-deal.
This shaved ice, this shaved ice… it’s really good.
“That’s Mira-san!”
“That’s Mira-san!”
“So beautiful! She’s beautiful even in casual clothes!”
Mira smiled and waved at them, looking a bit like a celebrity.
Rod felt a warm glow. Beautiful, right? I think so too.
“That doesn’t count,” Mira suddenly said.
Rod was taken aback. “What doesn’t count?”
“Treating you to food. That doesn’t count. I’ll properly treat you another day.”
“Sure.” Rod agreed readily, though he was curious. “Why the sudden urge to treat me?”
“Because you’ve invited me a few times. It’s about time I return the favor.”
Mira thought for a moment and then added, "Let's consider it a celebration for winning the competition."
Rod had been learning how to receive magic from Mira for the past month, and he would occasionally invite her out to thank her.
Sometimes they would enjoy some sweets, other times a cup of coffee, or perhaps a quick ice cream before heading back.
That's why it felt so natural when he invited her to the festival, without even needing to come up with an excuse.
Alzack was such a wimp.
Now, being invited by her was a pleasant surprise. And...
"Have the results of the competition been announced already?"
"Yeah. Marcus worked hard to tally the votes. Although they plan to announce the results and post the vote counts tomorrow, they always tell me these things in advance," Mira said with a playful wink, as if she was embarrassed by having such privileges.
"Congratulations, Mira, the most beautiful mage of Fairy Tail."
The little rich girl had won a 500,000 J reward, making her even wealthier and more desirable.
Mira smiled and said, "It's because Erza didn't take it seriously."
"No, I think she was very serious."
Serious enough to almost cut the entire audience to pieces.
Thinking back to Erza's expression at the time, it was the same determined look she had when she first punched him during their training session, a look of absolute confidence in her victory.
They didn't wander around for too long.
As Mira had mentioned, there were still preparations for the magic parade and the victory celebration afterward.
Everyone would soon return to follow the Master's instructions, but many tasks couldn't be managed without Mira, the guild's chief caretaker.
Actually, helping her with the work wasn't a bad idea.
...
"Are the fireworks ready?"
"They've been delivered to the designated location, and the city hall has arranged for assistance."
"How about the costumes?"
"They've been distributed and can be changed into before we leave!"
"Any issues with the parade floats?"
"They're all decorated and ready to go!"
Mira checked off each item on the to-do list, but one discordant voice interrupted when she asked about the floats:
"‘I have a problem! I don't want to ride in a car!’ That's what Natsu said, Love."
Mira replied, "Happy, take Natsu to find Rod and have him work with him."
"Love!"
Mira had initially wanted Natsu to rest since he wasn't feeling well, but he insisted that he couldn't miss an event everyone was participating in and was determined to join.
Mira had no choice but to pair the guild's least reliable member with its most dependable one.
Rod had his own concerns, but instead of bothering Mira, he approached the Master:
"If everyone goes to the parade, what about security? What if someone tries to cause trouble?"
"During such times, if anyone dares to cause trouble, there will be thunder over Magnolia," the Master replied.
"Huh?" Rod wanted to ask the Master to speak in plain language.
But Makarov sighed, "Don't worry. Besides the city's security forces maintaining order, I've arranged for Laxus and the Thunder Legion to handle security, and Mystogan will keep an eye on the parade the entire time."
If it were a few years earlier, Makarov might have proudly told Rod about Magnolia's common weather pattern—sunny with a chance of Laxus.
Unfortunately, that boy was becoming less and less interested in the magical parade he used to love as a child.
But since this parade was crucial for Fairy Tail's reputation, even for the sake of appearances, Laxus wouldn't want anything to go wrong.
So, the security is in good hands with him and the Thunder Legion.
