Chapter 105: It Seems to Have Worked
Chapter 105: It Seems to Have Worked
Mastering skills is a crucial matter, whether in competitions or daily life. Learning an additional skill greatly increases one's future options.
For example, a Water-type Companion Beast that learns Air Bubble can encase a person in a bubble, allowing them to dive underwater without any equipment, experiencing the underwater scenery up close.
This makes it possible for the Beastmaster to become an underwater photographer, a safety officer, or an underwater archaeologist.
The Ancient Fog Region, known as the "Aquatic World", has its capital, Shangyou City, crisscrossed with waterways. Apart from boats, you rarely see other forms of transportation on the roads.
The main reason the Ancient Fog Region is called the "Aquatic World" is that the waters beneath the region's nine municipalities are interconnected.
Beneath these connected waters lies the world-renowned Underwater City, which is filled with ancient ruins. Over time, the city has expanded to cover the entire underwater area, becoming a must-visit spot for travel bloggers from around the world.
In such a place, a Water-type Companion Beast that knows Air Bubble is a necessary requirement for the local Underwater Management Bureau.
Similarly, a Water-type Companion Beast that knows Rainfall is a must for the Meteorological Bureau, and one that knows Water Jet is required by firefighters.
An average Beastmaster might secure a comfortable life simply because their familiar learns a rare skill.
While everyone is trying their best to teach their familiars new skills, Qiao Sang's familiar has somehow learned new skills on its own.
First, it was Fangflare, and now it's Treasure Seeker.
Qiao Sang's expression was dazed, and a question suddenly flashed through his mind.
Where did the idea that skills are hard to learn come from?
...
Treasure Seeker, holding its breath, clenched its fists and teleported, but after six attempts, it was still on the same street.
"Seek~"
Treasure Seeker turned to look at its rear, feeling that its speed was slow because it hadn't released the gas.
It straightened its head, clenched its fists, and tried harder, its face turning even redder.
"Ah Sang, is this teleportation?" a breathless voice asked from the side.
Qiao Sang turned his head to see Ye Ranran standing there, frozen like a log, her eyes wide with shock as she stared at Treasure Seeker.
She looked so silly...
Qiao Sang snapped back to reality, completely forgetting that he had looked the same just a moment ago.
"Probably", Qiao Sang replied.
"If I remember correctly, Treasure Seeker is a Ghost-type Companion Beast, right?" Ye Ranran's voice trembled slightly.
"You're right", Qiao Sang nodded.
"Then..." Ye Ranran mumbled.
Before she could finish, Qiao Sang interjected, "Just as you thought."
Ye Ranran was speechless.
She finally found her voice after a moment. "How much did you spend?"
"I didn't spend anything. I got it from the Companion Beast Exchange Coupon given during the Newcomer Competition", Qiao Sang explained.
Ye Ranran: "!!!"
This revelation shocked Ye Ranran more than when she learned that Qiao Sang had won five million in prize money.
"What about Third Uncle and the others?" Qiao Sang asked.
Ye Ranran didn't answer immediately. She looked at Qiao Sang with a resentful expression. "I've been in a daze."
Qiao Sang sighed. "You see, someone as low-key as me wasn't planning to say anything, but I didn't expect Little Treasure Seeker to suddenly learn teleportation."
A familiar’s potential doesn’t need to be hidden; with the existence of the Beastmaster Codex, there’s no need to worry about someone else taking a bonded familiar.
Ye Ranran: “…!”
Was this on purpose? This was definitely on purpose!
…
Although the Treasure Seeker had learned to teleport, it was still young, and its internal energy wasn’t sufficient to support multiple uses. Its stamina was also far from adequate, and it didn’t reach the finish line within the allotted time.
However, it wasn’t alone; 23 other participating familiars from the fourth tier didn’t make it either, so it wasn’t too embarrassing.
On the way back, Qiao Sang was in a great mood, carrying Fangflare and humming songs from time to time.
The Treasure Seeker didn’t seem upset about losing; it lay on Qiao Sang’s head, leisurely drinking milk, showing that it didn’t have as strong a competitive spirit as Fangflare.
The family chatted and laughed on the way back, but Third Uncle returned to his usual quiet and reserved self.
The reason was simple: the Bellowing Swamp Crocodile, which he had hoped would win, lost by just 9 seconds to a Lightning Otter, placing second.
“Dad, second place is still great. It covers half a year’s expenses at the Qitang Beast Mastery Center, so you can take the Bellowing Swamp Crocodile and the Inky Fish for check-ups,” Ye Jingwen consoled him.
“Yeah, Third Uncle, I think the second-place reward is more practical than the first,” Qiao Sang added with a smile.
Third Uncle managed a weak smile. “I’m fine. It’s not bad to get second place. Thanks for your hard work, Qiao Sang and Ran Ran.”
“It wasn’t a problem, not a problem at all,” Qiao Sang beamed.
She had initially thought the Treasure Seeker was just along for the ride, but it turned out to have learned new skills, making the experience worthwhile!
Qiao Sang was in high spirits all the way home, but her smile vanished as soon as they arrived.
“Hey, where’s the bicycle we rode this morning?” Third Aunt suddenly asked, looking at the usual spot where the bicycle was parked.
Qiao Sang: “!!!”
…
Night.
19:28.
Liu Gan Stream.
Qiao Sang watched helplessly as Fangflare began to sense the energy within its body.
After the marathon and the long ride back, Fangflare should have been resting. But the little one was so eager to improve and insisted on practicing the Energy Orb.
As a Beastmaster, she couldn’t discourage her familiar’s enthusiasm.
Thus, they found themselves at Liu Gan Stream late at night.
Qiao Sang habitually found a spot, sat cross-legged on the ground, and propped her chin in her hand, watching Fangflare as it began to condense the Energy Orb.
It seemed to her that the Energy Orb had grown slightly larger.
Qiao Sang wondered if it would be enough to catch a fish tonight.
The Energy Orb continued to rise.
1, 2, 3… 6 meters, and it still hadn’t stopped.
Qiao Sang was taken aback, sitting up straight as she watched the Energy Orb ascend higher and higher.
Why hasn’t it lost control yet?
The height seemed to match the standard for Mars Rain in the air.
The red Energy Orb kept rising until it stopped at about 23 meters.
This time, the Energy Orb didn’t fall or explode on its own. Instead, it hovered in the air for 2 seconds before bursting.
Three red flames descended from the silent night sky, like red meteors streaking down to decorate the darkness.
“Boom!”
“Boom!”
“Boom!”
Crimson sparks landed on the ground, one after another, creating loud explosions.
Dust and debris flew, accompanied by the vivid crimson flames.
A red flame landed not far in front of Qiao Sang, illuminating her wide-eyed, slack-jawed expression.
Qiao Sang felt her mind had shut down.
Mars Rain…
It seems to have succeeded…
