Chapter 105: Advanced Antidote Potion (Second Update)
Chapter 105: Advanced Antidote Potion (Second Update)
Faced with Nick's endless lectures about world peace, the Earth's crisis, and love and justice, Jerry paid no attention. He just kept repeating, "I’m not listening, I’m not listening", in a childish manner.
What? Trying to reason with a child? Children don’t listen to reason; they stick to their own stubborn logic.
Besides, right now it was Nick who needed Jerry's help, not the other way around.
Worst-case scenario, they could part ways, and Nick's righteous S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn’t just kidnap a child by force, could they?
And if they did try, Jerry's Magic wasn’t something to be underestimated.
As long as Jerry’s true identity remained hidden, his current Magic abilities weren’t particularly afraid of S.H.I.E.L.D.
While S.H.I.E.L.D. had numbers and power, if Jerry used Magic to become invisible and escape, they would find it very difficult to catch him.
Thus, despite Jerry's stubbornness, Nick Fury’s mouth went dry from talking, but he still didn’t achieve his initial goal.
Now he finally understood that wizards weren’t without their issues. The fact that she was a child was itself a problem, as a child’s thinking was different from that of an adult.
Indeed, apart from his own agents, no one else was ever easy to handle.
However, at least Jerry was willing to provide help for a price, which was better than nothing.
Trust could be built over time.
This was certainly better than the situation with Dr. Banner, who could only be monitored, or Tony, who had both mental and physical issues.
Patience was something Nick, as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., possessed.
"Alright, if you’re not willing to join us, I won’t force you. The main reason I asked you here is because of your healing Magic. I want you to help save someone."
"Save someone?"
A hint of confusion flashed in Jerry’s eyes.
"Yes, you should have heard his name, Tony Stark, or Iron Man!"
Nick nodded.
"Iron Man, what happened to him?"
Jerry remembered a news report from a while back. Tony Stark had been summoned to Washington by a senator to hand over the Iron Man suit technology to the government. Tony had skillfully dodged the attack and embarrassed the senator in public.
At the time, Jerry had thought, indeed, only capital could stand up to capital. Compared to Dr. Banner, who was being chased by the military, Tony, flying around in his Iron Man suit, was untouchable by the government.
"He’s been poisoned, by a very special kind of toxin. With our current technology, we can’t cure him completely. If we don’t find a solution, he won’t last much longer."
Fury’s expression grew more serious.
"That serious?"
Jerry remembered that Tony seemed perfectly fine in Avengers One, showing no signs of being poisoned to the point of death.
Unless Nick Fury was mistaken, it was more likely that Iron Man had found a way to solve the problem himself. Jerry thought the latter was more probable.
Given this, should he still offer his help?
Of course, he should!
Iron Man was a tech genius, an inventor with incredible skills, and he was both wealthy and well-connected. Having him owe Jerry a life-saving favor would be a good move.
As the saying goes, "Debts of the heart are hard to repay, but debts of gratitude are even harder!"
This was true not just in his country but worldwide, especially for people with integrity.
"My healing Magic can treat external injuries, and even if someone loses a limb, once I become stronger, I might be able to restore it. But for poisoning, my healing Magic is powerless."
Jerry paused here.
Indeed, none of the magic he had learned or the spells he currently knew could cure poisoning. Spells like swift healing were only effective for treating external injuries and curse damage.
Seeing the slight disappointment on Nick's face, Jerry continued:
"Don't worry. Although my magic can't cure poisoning, it doesn't mean I don't have other methods!"
"What do you mean?"
Fury's single eye fixed on Jerry with intense scrutiny.
Jerry immediately adopted a pose reminiscent of Hermione, chin raised and confident:
"I'm not just good at casting spells. I can also brew magic potions that can cure poisoning!"
"Magic potions?"
Nick looked utterly confused.
"They are potions made using magic and various herbs. Sigh, you wouldn't understand even if I explained. Just know that they can cure poisoning!"
Jerry rolled her eyes and retorted.
The antidote is part of the fourth-year potion curriculum, and he could brew it now. It was quite effective against non-magical toxins like venom.
Of course, if that didn't work, he still had a few bottles of Quirrell's advanced antidote potion in his box space. The advanced antidote potion could even neutralize toxins with curse properties.
It should be able to solve Iron Man's poisoning problem.
Fury, who had been rebuked by Jerry, didn't mind. After all, the wizard was still a child, and a little girl at that.
After a moment's thought, he asked Jerry:
"What are your conditions?"
"Conditions? I often see news about Iron Man. He seems like a decent person, so I'll help for free this time!"
Jerry replied without hesitation.
Seeing Jerry's casual demeanor, Nick's mouth twitched involuntarily.
Just a moment ago, she had acted as if she wouldn't do anything without a benefit, making him think she would demand something outrageous. In the end, she didn't ask for anything.
It seemed she would help out of the goodness of her heart, or not at all, depending on her mood!
Shaking his head, he could only marvel at how she was indeed still a child.
However, he didn't find it inappropriate. She had agreed to save Tony, which was half the goal of today's mission.
"Director, Natasha has sent a message. Tony is at his home in Los Angeles with Colonel Rhodes..."
At that moment, Coulson walked over and relayed the urgent intelligence from Black Widow.
It turned out that Tony's palladium poisoning had reached 89%, and he knew he had only a few days left. So, he wanted to indulge himself on his birthday and pretend to have a falling out with his best friend, Colonel Rhodes, to give him the specially designed suit.
"Miss Wizard, are you free to go to Los Angeles with us now?"
After hearing Coulson's report, Nick turned to Jerry again.
Jerry checked the time:
"Can you bring me back by nine o'clock?"
It was just after four, and it was technically Saturday now. Hass was on night duty and wouldn't be home until around 9:30 AM. As for Elsa, she was a little lazybug who could sleep until noon if no one woke her up.
So, if they could be back in New York by nine, there wouldn't be a problem.
"Rest assured, our plane is quite fast!"
Nick smiled.
He knew Jerry had agreed.
