Chapter 1049: Timeline
Chapter 1049: Timeline
"Damned thing. Damned thing."
Niuwei, the senior, was blasted off the stage by a series of Scrap Falls, landing headfirst on the ground. He gritted his teeth, his eyes burning with rage.
If this had happened to an average person, a mild concussion would be the least of their worries. However, in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh, being a skilled duelist first required a robust physique. Just like in the neighboring Pokémon world, where trainers needed superhuman endurance to stand on the stage, the duelists in Yu-Gi-Oh were all superhuman.
Recalling the time Niuwei chased Yusei on the D-Wheel, he and the vehicle plummeted from a great height. From that altitude, even Captain America from Marvel would need a vibranium shield to cushion his fall and take a few seconds to recover before standing up. But Niuwei landed without a scratch and immediately continued riding and dueling, showcasing his terrifying superhuman constitution.
"Damn."
Niuwei got up, his teeth clenched as he glared at the figure on the stage.
Until today, the most detestable duelist in his mind was a certain Satellite Crabhead. But from now on, that Crabhead would have some stiff competition.
This seemingly harmless, sunny-faced guy on the stage was just as despicable as the Crabhead!
"Are you okay, Niuwei?"
Youxuan stood at the edge of the Dueling arena, smiling.
"Should we take you to the hospital?"
"I'm fine!"
Niuwei waved his hand dismissively.
This level of injury wasn't worth making a fuss over, and suggesting a hospital visit was a clear insult to Niuwei.
The security guard beside him gaped in shock.
Compared to their previous duel, this guy's deck and strategy were completely different!
Last time, he didn't encounter any Sky Sanctuary or Scrap Fall. Back then, the opponent didn't even summon a Synchro monster.
More accurately, he barely summoned any monsters at all. It was mostly just one Iron Knight Gia who slaughtered him.
Because this guy had no cards in his hand from the very first turn.
Secret Art: Hand Evaporation.
Starting hand: -6. How was he supposed to duel with that?
Before seeking Niuwei for revenge, he had warned his senior that this kid was trouble and that they should be wary of his hand-evaporation trick.
But at the time, Niuwei didn't take it too seriously, thinking the guard was just too weak and easily tricked. The guard's exaggerated account probably had some embellishments.
After all, people tend to do that. When they lose, they often exaggerate the opponent's strength, saying they were a god of war and that they lost due to bad luck and a poor draw, despite battling for hundreds of turns.
Niuwei understood. After losing to the Satellite Crabhead, he too had told his team that it wasn't his fault but that the guy was just unreasonably strong.
But to the guard's surprise, this guy had changed his tactics.
Equipping the opponent with magic cards and then using his own monsters as human bombs for suicidal attacks—this terrorist-like strategy was bizarre to the extreme, making one seriously doubt the mental state of the duelist who came up with it.
Youxuan even felt a bit regretful.
With just three Divine Summon Novas, Niuwei was already down. There were still three Radiant Angels in the chain of legacy cards that hadn't been used.
If all six legacy cards had been used to self-destruct, each with 1400 Attack Points, the total damage would have been 4200, enough to instantly kill a full-health opponent.
Unfortunately, Niuwei wasn't up to the task. After three Divine Summon Novas, he was done. It felt like he hadn't even begun to exert himself before his opponent was already defeated.
The guard finally couldn't help but murmur, "Senior Niuwei... lost again."
Niuwei glared angrily. "What do you mean, 'again'!?"
You make it sound like I lose all the time.
"Oh, no", the security guard said, "I heard from a colleague that you lost to the guy from the Satellite District."
"That was an accident!" Niuwei roared. "I didn't expect those Satellite scum to use a Synchro Summon. I got caught off guard!"
The guard meekly replied, "But I heard you lost to him twice in a row."
He quickly shut up, realizing that Niuwei's eyes looked like they could kill.
At that moment, Youxuan also hopped off the platform and asked with interest, "A Duelist from the Satellite District? There's actually someone strong enough to beat Brother Niuwei in the Satellite District?"
Although Niuwei had lost, he felt a bit better after being flattered. "Yeah, there's this guy who snuck in from the Satellite District. Those bottom-of-the-barrel scum, I can't believe people are still trying to sneak into the city these days. He somehow got his hands on a D-Wheel and slipped in through the trash chute."
Youxuan knew he was talking about Yusei Fudo.
As for the D-Wheel, it wasn't stolen. D-Wheels were rare in the Satellite District, but Yusei's D-Wheel was entirely handmade from scraps he collected day by day.
The ingenuity required to build a perpetual motion machine from garbage, regardless of his card skills, made Yusei the undisputed top tech expert in Yu-Gi-Oh history.
From Niuwei's tone, Youxuan deduced that this was early 5D's, as Niuwei later became good friends with Yusei and the others. However, he needed more confirmation.
"Really, a D-Wheel? And there's such an interesting Duelist in the Satellite District." Youxuan asked, "So where is that person now?"
Niuwei grunted heavily, clearly irritated by the mention of the Satellite scum.
"Where else? The Satellite scum sneaked into the city and got caught by the Security Bureau. They threw him straight into the Detention Center.
Che, what a lucky bastard. If he wasn't in the Detention Center, I'd make sure to give him a proper beating next time I catch him."
Youxuan now confirmed the timeline.
It was early 5D's, and the story had just begun. Yusei Fudo had snuck into the city from the Satellite District and had a secret Duel with King Jack Atlas of Satellite at night.
During the Duel, an accident occurred, and the "Dragon Mark" on their arms, which had been dormant, was activated by the Duel. An ancient and powerful entity, the "Red Dragon", awoke and nearly destroyed the entire Duel arena.
The Duel was interrupted by the explosion, and Yusei was arrested by the security officers and taken to the Detention Center.
"I see, what a shame", Youxuan sighed.
"I'd like to meet such a strong Duelist from the Satellite District."
Niuwei grunted and didn't say anything more, only handing over the card they had bet on earlier.
It was a rare card, worth a fair bit of money, but it wasn't useful to Youxuan. In fact, most of the cards he won in these bets were useless to him, so he sold them for cash to buy other cards.
"By the way, Brother Niuwei, that 'Imperial Guardian' card looks pretty powerful."
Youxuan rubbed his hands together, looking hopeful.
"Brother, how about we bet my 'Scrap Warrior' soul card against that 'Imperial Guardian' for another round?"
Niuwei's face darkened, and he spat out a single word.
"Get lost."
