Chapter 1046: New World
Chapter 1046: New World
“Youxuan, are you sure you're okay with this?”
Guiping watched Youxuan jump into the massive D-Wheel of Paradox, still feeling a bit anxious.
“I'll be fine,” Youxuan smiled and waved, “I might be back soon.”
While it was impossible to understand the principles behind the perpetual motion machine and these futuristic technologies so quickly, the think tank at Kaiba Corporation had at least figured out how to use the machines over the past two days. Even if they couldn’t develop them, they could still operate them.
Youxuan quickly received an operation manual and got a general idea of how the device worked.
Guiping nodded, “Alright. But once you’re there, we won’t have any means to contact you or provide any assistance. You’ll have to be careful on your own.”
“Understood.”
That was part of his plan.
The D-Wheel roared to life, and the world seemed to warp in an instant. The figures and buildings around him vanished as if dissolved into a flowing aurora. Green, purple, and blue light intertwined, forming a brilliant river.
The scenery began to change rapidly, with countless images flashing by like a slideshow.
The shadow of a godlike deity flying over the apex of a pyramid, a cold, cloaked magician standing tall on the earth, a White Dragon radiating brilliant white light, and a cosmic hero descending as a ball of fire.
A silver dragon soared across the sky, leaving a trail of starlight. A golden-armored warrior cleaved through the void, with sparks of electricity dancing in the dimensional rift. A dragon with heterochromatic eyes roared under the stars, and another storm of data coalesced into a dragon lord.
Each image represented a different time and space, a symbol of an era.
The dizzying auroras and images were left behind as a blinding white light flashed, and the flow of time and space seemed to be cast aside. A new world unfolded before him, revealing its true form.
When Youxuan came to his senses, he was floating high in the sky.
Looking down, he saw a modern city below, with skyscrapers towering into the sky. Glass facades reflected the sunlight like countless mirrors. Vehicles flowed through the streets, and pedestrians were tiny like ants. Unique skyscrapers pierced the clouds, their lightning rods gleaming silver in the sun.
In the distance, a river cut through the city like a sharp blade, dividing it into two halves.
On this side, the skyscrapers shone in the sunlight, luxury cars drove smoothly on the streets, and well-dressed people enjoyed afternoon tea at outdoor cafes. On the other side, the buildings were densely packed and dilapidated, with rusted iron sheets covering the roofs. The streets were narrow and crowded, looking like an unreconstructed disaster zone.
In that dilapidated area, an unfinished bridge caught his eye. It extended stubbornly from the ruins, reaching out like a hand yearning to touch the other side. The bridge stretched over the river, but abruptly ended. The exposed rebar at the broken end looked like a bone that had been forcibly snapped.
This was the Daedalus Bridge.
Youxuan recognized it immediately.
This city was once Satellite City, the Duel Capital, the hometown of Seto Kaiba, and the center of the Yu-Gi-Oh! story. A disaster had swept through the city, dividing the former Duel Capital into two parts.
On one side was the elite district, where the wealthy resided, and on the other side was the Satellite District, home to the abandoned poor. The unfinished Daedalus Bridge symbolized the will of the Satellite District’s people to resist oppression and seek freedom.
This was the era of Five Ds.
Youxuan had set the program to track anomalies in the timeline of this dimension. Since he had arrived here, it meant that the historical anomaly was likely around the current time.
However, the specifics of the anomaly still need to be investigated. For now, let's get a feel for this world.
Incidentally, he should check if there are any noteworthy cards in this future dimension.
Youxuan landed discreetly and slipped into Neo Domino City.
Whether it was because this was a future timeline or a different dimension, the Neo Domino City he found was almost unrecognizable from the Satellite City he knew.
Many of the familiar streets and landmarks had vanished, with no trace of their former selves. Even the iconic Kaiba Corporation headquarters was nowhere to be seen.
Youxuan was taken aback when he realized this. He had always assumed that Kaiba Corporation would stand strong until the end of human civilization.
Upon inquiring, he learned that Kaiba Corporation hadn't gone bankrupt, but had simply relocated. It seemed that in this dimension, after the development of the perpetual motion machine, the company made significant advancements in aerospace technology and moved its headquarters to a space station.
Well, that explained it.
However, he couldn't find any news about the President. It seemed that Kaiba Seto had disappeared without a trace at some point.
About eighteen years ago, Satellite City suffered a world-shocking disaster known as the "Zero Reverse." The world's first perpetual motion machine, Moment, went out of control in Satellite City, dividing the city into two halves.
After the disaster, the city was rebuilt and renamed Neo Domino City. It appeared that after that, no one had heard from Kaiba Seto again.
Youxuan, intrigued, visited a card shop on the street. Despite it being a small shop, it was in a different dimension and a future timeline. He quickly found several cards that he couldn't have bought in his own world.
However, when Youxuan picked a card pack and reached into his pocket, he suddenly realized he was broke.
Right, the currency in this dimension was different from his world. He had been wealthy in his original world, but here he was penniless.
There were items that could be exchanged across worlds, of course. In the Yu Gi Oh world, cards were the most valuable currency, valuable in any dimension.
But he hadn't thought about this issue beforehand, and the cards he had were for his own use, not for trading.
No problem, though.
Youxuan's gaze soon fell on a Duel arena nearby.
In this era, many Duel arenas were set up in cities to facilitate citizens' practice and competition. Some of these arenas even had card betting rules.
Even in a different dimension, it was still a card game world. In a dimension where card games were supreme, earning money shouldn't be too difficult, right?
Ten minutes later, Youxuan was already standing on the Duel arena.
His first opponent was a uniformed security officer, wearing an enforcement helmet with a police badge on his head.
Youxuan raised an eyebrow.
A Security Bureau officer?
He remembered that in this era, the Security Bureau had a special Duel pursuit team.
"Hmph, you still dared to accept the challenge knowing I'm from the Security Pursuit Team."
The security officer sneered, grinning.
"You seem pretty confident, kid."
Youxuan feigned humility.
"I just want to learn from a strong opponent. Please go easy on me, sir."
Hearing the flattery, the security officer's mood improved, and he laughed.
"No problem. I'll show you what a professional pursuit team member can do! Come on!"
