Chapter 1045: Preparations for Departure
Chapter 1045: Preparations for Departure
Chapter 1045: Preparations for Departure
“Are you really going to the Parallel World?”
When Youxuan emerged from Paradox's containment area, Keihei looked at him with concern.
“Yes, what he said should be true,” Youxuan replied. “To prevent the destruction of both worlds, our goals should align from this starting point.”
“But even so—”
Keihei still felt uneasy.
Youxuan smiled. “There’s nothing to worry about. It’s not the first time I’ve done this. I’ve been to other dimensions before, right?”
“This time is different,” Keihei shook his head.
“Have you forgotten the concept we discussed? Even though you’ve been to other dimensions before, you were still within our world. If you compare the world to a card, you were just moving from the front to the back. But this time, you’re heading to a completely unknown world. You might never find your way back.”
“No problem,” Youxuan interrupted.
Keihei was taken aback.
Then he saw Youxuan smile at him. “I know what I’m doing.”
Keihei: “...”
Keihei’s worry was understandable. He knew that Paradox came from a completely parallel dimension, but he had no idea what that world was like. No one knew what Youxuan would encounter or what the conditions would be. Everything was unpredictable.
But Youxuan wasn’t as worried, for he had a rough idea of what to expect, based on Paradox's description, which suggested that the dimension he was about to enter was likely the original, "canonical" world of Yu-Gi-Oh, where he, as a time traveler, was never supposed to exist.
Of course, this was just a hypothesis. Paradox mentioned that the history of that world had also undergone abnormal changes, which might be the root of the anomalies. Therefore, Youxuan thought the original story could only serve as a reference and shouldn’t be overly relied upon. He had to be mentally prepared for any deviations from the original plot.
Seeing Youxuan’s determination, Keihei didn’t say anything more. “Alright, I hope you know what you’re doing.”
But when Youxuan said there was no problem, Keihei felt a bit more at ease. It was as if Youxuan’s words had a natural power to reassure; when he said not to worry, you couldn’t help but believe him.
“Alright... Are you taking that person with you?”
Keihei glanced in the direction of the containment area.
“Maybe, but not now. I still need to do some preparations.”
Youxuan squinted his eyes.
“An expedition requires a well-stocked arsenal.”
First, he went to the Kaiba Corporation and the International Fantasy Society’s card vaults. Youxuan gathered another round of cards, collecting all the ones that might be useful.
During his previous battle with Paradox, he had used an angel-themed deck, and he had already collected most of the angels he needed. After this additional collection, he had nearly completed a world champion deck.
The Proxy Angel deck.
One of the core cards in this deck was the “Archangel Cristia,” which Youxuan had already used before. This card could be Special Summoned from the Graveyard with four angel monsters on the field without any tributes, and as long as Cristia was on the field, both players’ Special Summons would be sealed.
During the battle with Paradox, this archangel had exerted a dominant pressure on the Sin Deck. If it weren’t for Paradox’s “Skill Drain,” the Sin Deck would have been almost completely nullified by this invincible archangel. In the era when the Proxy Angel deck won championships, mainstream decks like Scrap and Black Feather were often overwhelmed by the archangel, making it even more powerful in the Synchro environment.
This time, Youxuan added a “Supreme King Hyperion” to his deck, the flagship monster of the Proxy Angel deck and a key component in championship builds.
Hyperion can be Special Summoned from the hand by banishing any "Proxy" monster from the hand, field, or Graveyard. The summoning condition is extremely simple. Furthermore, once per turn, by banishing a Light Angel-type monster from the Graveyard, he can destroy any card on the field.
If "Sky Sanctuary" is on the field, this effect can be used twice per turn instead of once. Coupled with his respectable 2700 Attack Points, this ensures the deck has the explosive power needed for quick kills.
Another key card is the Ritual Angel, "Proclaimer of Divine Light." A Level 6 Ritual Monster, it can negate and destroy the activation of any opponent's Spell, Trap, or monster effect by sending any Angel-type monster from the hand to the Graveyard.
This powerful three-color negation can invalidate any of the opponent's effects, and crucially, it doesn't specify "once per turn." Such potent resistance makes this card useful even in modern Yu-Gi-Oh, despite being an older card.
The Archangel seals Special Summons, Hyperion destroys cards and enhances attacks, and the Proclaimer of Divine Light negates any card effect. Together, they provide both lockdown and removal capabilities. In an ideal scenario, completing this setup can virtually guarantee victory.
After that, Youxuan returned to his lab to check the progress of all ongoing projects and departments. He also brought in a batch of newly developed cards that he thought might be useful.
Among the various series and derivatives, one card stands out.
"Sleeping Giant Gudon."
This card has a rich history. It first appeared in "Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's", where it was referred to as one of the top-tier monsters comparable to the "Three Celestial Beings." Interestingly, despite being a god-tier monster, it is not particularly rare and is described in the anime as something "everyone has at least one of", making it a common card.
However, the anime also mentions that, according to Duel records, no one has ever successfully summoned this card since its creation.
In the anime, "Sleeping Giant Gudon" cannot be Normal Summoned. It can only be Special Summoned from the hand by tributing a Level 1 Normal monster that has been face-up on the field for more than ten turns.
Once summoned, Gudon's Attack Points are always 1000 points higher than the monster it battles. Additionally, this card cannot be targeted by any Spell, Trap, or monster effects, and any monster that battles it has its effects negated.
Youxuan's version of the card, however, is a real-world version, which has a more lenient summoning condition.
Once per turn, by showing a "Sleeping Giant Gudon" from the hand to the opponent, one can place a counter on a Level 1 Normal monster on the field. By tributing a Level 1 Normal monster with ten counters, Gudon can be Special Summoned from the hand.
This means that if you have three Gudons in your hand, you can place three counters per turn, theoretically allowing you to summon Gudon by the fourth turn, rather than waiting ten turns as in the anime.
However, in the anime, the turn count for a Level 1 Normal monster starts as soon as it is on the field, even if you don't have Gudon in your hand. In the real-world version, you must draw Gudon to start placing counters, even if you have a Level 1 Normal monster on the field beforehand.
The real-world Gudon's resistance has also been enhanced. It is unaffected by any card effects, whereas in the anime, it only cannot be targeted by card effects.
Frankly, the anime's effect doesn't quite match the harsh summoning conditions, making the real-world version more reasonable.
"Alright, with that, all the preparations are complete."
Youxuan finished checking his inventory.
"Next, it's time to set out."
