Chapter 1044: Colliding Worlds
Chapter 1044: Colliding Worlds
"World destruction?"
Yu Xuan sighed.
Another destruction? Can this world ever be at peace? Why can't everyone just live a quiet life, play some cards, and enjoy their retirement?
"Alright, what is it this time?" Yu Xuan asked. "Let me guess, another powerful old monster from another world?"
"What? No."
Dr. Kudou shook his head and then became serious.
"It's the person you just brought back. We've been trying to trace his origins, and we're fairly certain he comes from a parallel reality very similar to ours but with no intersection. You understand what this means, right?"
Yu Xuan nodded. "I get it. But what does this have to do with the end of the world?"
"The issue is, he doesn't seem to know why he's here either", Dr. Kudou said solemnly. "We questioned him, and he was just trying to return to his own reality's past timeline. But during his time travel, the space-time of two dimensions became entangled, and two realities that should never intersect did. He was caught in that chaos and ended up here by a twist of fate."
Yu Xuan understood. "His arrival here was purely accidental."
"Exactly. Our team is very curious about why such an accident occurred, so we conducted further research. That's when we discovered this terrifying fact."
Dr. Kudou's expression turned grim.
"The reason he was caught in that chaos is probably because the two worlds we inhabit are moving closer to each other."
This time, Yu Xuan was a bit confused. "What do you mean?"
"Exactly what it sounds like. It's like two magnets with opposite poles being attracted to each other and moving closer", Dr. Kudou explained. "This might not have been obvious before, but with this incident, it suggests that the distance between the two worlds is now very close."
Keihei, who had started to guess, paled. "Wait, if the two worlds completely merge, what will happen?"
"That's what I just said."
Dr. Kudou's expression grew even more serious.
"Both our world and the other world... will probably be destroyed."
The three of them were silent for a moment.
This was different from the problems they had encountered before.
There was no world-destroying demon, no specific enemy trying to dominate or destroy everything. It felt more like a natural disaster.
Yu Xuan began to think.
In the world of Yu-Gi-Oh, playing cards could solve 99% of problems, he knew that. But the premise was that you had to find someone to play with.
What about this situation? Should they find a representative from the other world to play a game?
The three of them fell silent for a moment, the atmosphere heavy.
Then, another person rushed into the room. "Mr. Yu Xuan, the interdimensional traveler wants to see you."
Yu Xuan furrowed his brow but didn't ask more. He stood up and followed the person to the holding room.
Kaiba Corporation's high-tech prison cell contained Paradox, who had been stripped of his original equipment and dressed in a prisoner's uniform. He sat with his arms crossed, staring at Yu Xuan with a distant gaze.
"They said you wanted to see me."
Yu Xuan approached the cell.
"I just heard about it", Paradox said. "It's a plausible explanation. Two realities that should never intersect became entangled, and my arrival here was purely accidental."
He paused, his tone softening slightly.
"So, history hasn't gone wrong. In my world's history, you, Yu Xuan, don't exist."
Yu Xuan smiled. "So, you're saying I can finally be cleared of the suspicion of being the cause of the world's destruction?"
Paradox was speechless.
Now it seemed his previous accusations were baseless. In his own world, Yu Xuan didn't exist. Yet, their future still ended in destruction, proving that this had nothing to do with Yu Xuan.
But there were things Paradox hadn’t said. He felt that even if the problems in his world had nothing to do with Yu Xuan, there was still something off about this person.
Yu Xuan, this guy's Duel was like a plague spreading darkness. In just a single game, he could strip a duelist of all their passion and hope, plunging them into a despair that made them want to give up dueling forever.
Paradox shook his head.
Forget it, it wasn’t his dimension, so it wasn’t his problem. Better to keep quiet.
“With the misunderstanding cleared up, we’re on the same side now,” Paradox said solemnly. “You need my help.”
Yu Xuan raised an eyebrow. “That’s coming from someone who was just trying to kill me.”
“I just want to save my world,” Paradox shook his head. “If the two dimensions collide, our reality and all timelines will be wiped out.
All I want is to erase Duel Monsters from history so human civilization can continue. But if reality itself ceases to exist, what’s left to save?”
Yu Xuan pondered for a moment.
He wouldn’t easily trust someone he had just met based on a few words. But he had read the original work and knew the characters, so he understood that Paradox was telling the truth.
Paradox had indeed returned to the past to save the future of humanity. If his dimension was about to be destroyed, he would do anything to prevent it.
“You want to cooperate?” Yu Xuan asked.
Paradox replied, “First, you need to let me out.”
Yu Xuan said, “That still needs some consideration. Tell me what you plan to do first.”
Paradox seemed a bit agitated. He stood up, approached the edge of the cage, and faced Yu Xuan, looking him straight in the eye.
“First, we need to go back to my dimension.”
Paradox continued, “Before I accidentally came to your world, I noticed some changes in the history of my world, but they weren’t caused by my actions.
At first, I didn’t think much of it, assuming it was just the butterfly effect from traveling through time. But now, I think it might be the cause.”
He paused for a moment, then added, “I haven’t heard of two dimensions colliding, but I have heard a theory.
If the historical process changes incorrectly, it could cause a world to deviate from its original path, potentially leading to a collision with another reality.”
“Knowing such a risk, you still went ahead and altered history?” Yu Xuan asked.
“It’s just a theoretical risk,” Paradox said coldly. “My future is already completely destroyed. If there’s a chance to save it, I’m willing to take the risk.
But as long as I go back and correct the historical errors, my world should return to its original path and avoid the collision.”
“But you wanted to change your world’s history, didn’t you?” Yu Xuan said. “Now you want to change it back again?”
Paradox gave him a withering look. “I changed history to make the future better. If all timelines are erased, what future is there to speak of?
First, we need to restore history and prevent the dimensions from breaking. Then, I will find another way to save us. But that’s our problem, not yours.”
Yu Xuan nodded. “That makes sense.”
“So, are we in agreement?” Paradox asked. “You need my help. With your current technology, it’s difficult to travel between dimensions.”
“Ha, we’ll see about that.”
Yu Xuan waved his hand and walked away.
“I need to think about it.”
Paradox watched him leave, then said coldly, “You’d better think fast. We might not have much time left.”
