Chapter 104: The Flower Field
Chapter 104: The Flower Field
The Heracross carrying Bear Cub finally disappeared into the vast blue sky.
Naoki stood in the ranch, gazing in the direction of their departure, feeling a tinge of melancholy.
He never expected that after crossing over to the Pokemon world, instead of embarking on a journey himself, he would send his Pokemon on their own adventures.
It was a strange feeling.
With Bear Cub gone, life on the ranch continued.
Naoki took a deep breath and returned to the house, beginning to clean the cookware he had used for his culinary creations.
Before he knew it, the end of February had arrived, and the crops in the fields were ready for harvest once more.
It was time to get busy again!
Early the next morning, Naoki set out to reap the mature crops.
As he reached the farming area, he was delighted to discover that the flower field he had planted earlier was in full bloom.
A mix of several flower types created a vibrant and colorful spectacle, filling the entire ranch with a delicate fragrance.
The blooming flowers brought joy to the Pokemon living on the ranch.
Frostine, Minif Garden, Salandit, and Bounsweet were all drawn to the beautiful sight.
Little Frostine played a game of hide-and-seek with the tiny Salandit among the tall flowers.
Minif Garden found a comfortable shady spot and settled in, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
Bounsweet, full of excitement, ran up to a flower and gently sniffed its sweet fragrance, only to sneeze repeatedly, perhaps from inhaling too much pollen.
If there were any Pokemon that were the happiest, it would be Combee and Butterfree.
Early in the morning, the diligent Combee buzzed about joyfully, flying over the blooming flower field and collecting nectar.
Butterfree, too, gently fluttered its wings, pausing on the flowers to appreciate their beauty.
Naoki, wearing a straw hat, watched this heartwarming scene, a smile spreading across his face.
His mind drifted to the ecological habits of these two Pokemon species.
In the wild, when a wild Butterfree encountered a wild Combee, they would often compete for nectar, engaging in a fierce struggle.
However, on this ranch, Butterfree and Combee coexisted harmoniously, a stark contrast to their usual behavior.
"Enjoy yourselves here, I'm off to work," Naoki called out to the Pokemon before heading to the farming area to begin harvesting the crops.
Gourgeist and Garchomp soon joined him, helping to pick the ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, turnips, and other produce, placing them in large baskets Naoki had prepared beforehand.
Naoki had been cautious about expanding the scale of his farming because he was worried about managing everything alone. Planting, sowing, fertilizing, pest control, and weeding all required his personal attention.
Even the number of Pokemon he raised was limited due to the same reason. With only himself to care for them, he didn't want to neglect any of his Pokemon, which could lead to them becoming unhappy and affecting the quality of their produce.
Despite this, the tasks in the fields still kept them busy for several hours.
As noon approached, the large baskets were filled to the brim, and Naoki wiped the sweat from his brow, taking a moment to admire the fruits and vegetables they had harvested.
To be honest, the income from agriculture paled in comparison to what he earned from livestock farming.
However, with such a large plot of land, he couldn't bear to leave it untended, and it would be a waste to let it lie fallow. Besides, the crops they grew could be sold or kept for their own consumption.
The only downside was that these seasonal vegetables couldn't be stored for long periods.
"It would be great if I had an ice cellar," Naoki mused.
However, building an ice cellar required money and specialized refrigeration equipment. Such large-scale refrigeration would also consume a significant amount of electricity, resulting in substantial monthly utility costs.
Was there another way?
The first thing that came to Naoki's mind was an Ice-type Pokemon. Not just any Ice-type Pokemon would do, though; it had to be one that enjoyed dwelling in icy caverns. Pokemon like Vanilluxe, Bergmite, or Glaceon would be ideal.
The ice cellar could serve as their nest while also storing food. Utilizing the powers of Pokemon would be both convenient and economical.
Out of the three, Glaceon was the one Naoki most desired to capture. He had a dream to one day collect Eevee evolutions of all types.
Glaceon could live in the ice cellar, Leafon could tend to the crops, Flareon could provide warmth during winter, Jolteon could generate electricity, and Vaporeon could occasionally help Lapras with irrigation.
With these thoughts, Naoki realized just how versatile the Eevee family was!
In addition, he would need to capture a Pokemon that could plow the fields. Gazing at the fields and crops before him, Naoki fell into deep thought.
Regarding farming, a particular Pokemon came to mind.
None other than Regigigas.
Regigigas, the ancient ruler of Galar, was a legendary Pokemon said to possess immense wisdom, capable of seeing through the past, present, and future.
The reason it came to mind was due to its other moniker—the Fertility King.
Regigigas was believed to possess the ability to heal hearts and make plants sprout. Legend had it that with a raise of its right hand, flowers would bloom and grass would flourish, and with a raise of its left hand, fields would become fertile and crops would flourish.
It was like a god of agriculture!
If he could bring Regigigas to the ranch, it would be a perfect fit in a certain sense.
However, these thoughts made Naoki feel a bit guilty. Not long ago, he had harbored illicit intentions towards someone else's Rapidash, and now he was contemplating bringing the legendary Pokemon itself to his ranch.
"Forgive me, Lord Regigigas," he prayed silently. "Please bless my ranch with bountiful harvests every year!"
Naoki even contemplated building an altar to worship Regigigas. After all, according to its lore, Regigigas was known to perform laborious tasks.
The only concern was whether Regigigas, located in the Galar region, could sense the faith emanating from the Hisui region.
---
Meanwhile, in the distant Galar region, in the southernmost part of the land where snow perpetually drifted, a small and delicate-looking Pokemon with dignified and majestic demeanor weakly opened its eyes.
Through the distant reaches of time and space, its gaze fell upon a human who prayed to it.
Sensing the faint thread of faith emanating from this person, the Pokemon regained a slight amount of vigor.
Had Naoki been there, he would have instantly recognized this Pokemon as the legendary Fertility King, Regigigas.
Regigigas possessed a unique ability to draw power from the faith of others.
However, in recent years, the amount of faith it received from the people of Galar had diminished.
As the new era unfolded, fewer people placed their faith in the Fertility King, causing its power and physical form to weaken.
Sensing that faint thread of faith, Regigigas murmured softly:
"I never thought that in this age, there would still be humans who trust in me..."
