Chapter 104: The Deal with Cyclops (First Update)
Chapter 104: The Deal with Cyclops (First Update)
Ten minutes later,
On a secluded street in Manhattan.
A vintage red car slowly descended from the sky, followed by a child riding a broom who quickly landed next to the car.
"This is my colleague Phil Coulson, and that's his beloved car, Lola!"
Hill got out of the passenger seat and, noticing Jerry's curious gaze at the red car and Coulson, introduced them with a smile.
"Hello, wizard lady!"
Coulson also approached politely and shook Jerry's hand.
"Hello, Mr. Coulson!"
Jerry replied in Hermione's voice.
At the moment, his body was Hermione's, so his voice was naturally Hermione's.
"Sure enough, the previous voice was also a disguise!"
Hill, hearing Jerry's voice differ from the last two times, immediately understood that Jerry's previous voice must have been a disguise. Now that his true identity was exposed, he had reverted to his own voice.
However, she didn't point it out. Some things are better left unsaid to avoid awkwardness.
"Ms. Hill, we've already discussed this clearly before. What brings you to me this time?"
Jerry was genuinely puzzled by the sudden appearance of the two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
Was it because of the girl's identity he had deliberately revealed?
It probably wasn't that. If they knew he was a girl and had his photos, they would have first tried to find his real information rather than confront him directly.
Or was it related to the mercenary attack from yesterday?
That was a possibility, but mere mercenaries shouldn't warrant the attention of two veteran S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
"Actually, wizard lady, this time it's our director who wants to meet you personally and ask for your help!"
Hill noticed the less-than-welcoming tone in Jerry's voice and paused briefly, then quickly explained.
"The S.H.I.E.L.D. director, the one-eyed Cyclops?"
Jerry had a clear memory of Nick Fury, the S.H.I.E.L.D. director.
Firstly, in The Avengers, the opening scene featured this guy with his black bald head and eye patch, making him very noticeable and memorable.
Secondly, his colleagues often referred to the director by the vivid nickname "Cyclops", which he had naturally remembered over time.
After a moment's thought, Jerry finally nodded.
"Where is your director, then?"
While Jerry had no intention of joining the Avengers or being controlled and managed by S.H.I.E.L.D., he was open to mutually beneficial transactions with them.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had access to information and resources that he couldn't match.
Hell's Kitchen, it seemed, wouldn't be providing many Little Red Stars in the near future. If S.H.I.E.L.D. could offer him a substantial number of Little Red Stars, he might consider taking on their tasks.
Besides, if it was a deal, S.H.I.E.L.D. would naturally have to offer something in return.
S.H.I.E.L.D. must have some valuable assets, right?
"Please get in the car and come with us!"
Coulson, hearing Jerry's question, pulled out something like a car key and pressed a button toward a nearby, somewhat dilapidated car wash.
"Beep!"
An electronic sound rang out.
Then, Jerry watched as the old car wash began to transform like a robot, undergoing various changes.
Soon, a fully mechanized entrance leading deep underground appeared before Jerry.
"Technology and Magic truly share a remarkable similarity!"
Looking at the dilapidated car wash that had transformed into a mechanized base entrance, Jerry was reminded of the time Professor Mcgonagall took him to the Leaky Cauldron and then to Diagon Alley, where they passed through a magically enchanted wall.
Perhaps, if wizards had never encountered technology, they too might have been equally baffled upon first seeing such advanced machinery.
Jerry took out his Box and stuffed his flying broom into the Little Box. He then opened the car door and sat in the back seat.
Coulson and Hill exchanged a surprised glance as they watched Jerry magically fit such a large broom into such a small Box.
Although they had seen pictures and videos of Jerry stuffing mercenaries into the Box that day, witnessing it in person was still quite astonishing.
"Vroom!"
Lola's rear spewed out two jets of flame, transforming into a red lightning bolt as it shot into the mechanized entrance.
Once it had completely disappeared, the entrance reverted to its previous appearance as an old car wash.
About five minutes later.
Lola finally came to a stop in an underground plaza. Following Hill and Coulson through about five doors that required fingerprint and iris scans, Jerry finally arrived in a room where he met the person who had invited him—Nick Fury.
"Good evening, wizard lady, I am Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.!"
Nick Fury, dressed in a leather jacket and wearing an eye patch, turned around and greeted Jerry with a relatively gentle tone.
Jerry removed his wizard hat, revealing thick brown hair, and bowed in a wizardly manner to Nick Fury:
"Good evening, Mr. Fury. I wonder why you've invited me here?"
"Sit down, and we'll talk. Would you like something to drink?"
Nick didn't immediately answer Jerry's question but instead gestured for Jerry to sit down on the sofa beside him.
"I'll pass on the drink. I'm afraid you might slip in a sleeping drug or something."
Jerry walked over and sat down on the sofa, speaking without hesitation.
Given his current appearance as a young girl, being direct was often more effective.
If he acted like a seasoned, cunning adult, Director Nick might start to view him with suspicion.
Being smart and having a good head on your shoulders is different from being deeply calculating.
Sure enough, Nick was taken aback for a moment but didn't seem overly concerned. He smiled and explained:
"Miss Wizard, you may have a misunderstanding about the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division. We are part of the International Security Council, established to maintain peace on Earth and handle special events.
You are working to maintain peace in a small region, while we are responsible for the entire planet. There is no conflict here, and you don't need to be hostile towards us!"
Jerry responded with a chuckle:
"Mr. Fury, I don't fully understand all of that. My philosophy is simple: I use my Magic to stop crimes. If you need help in that area, I can provide it.
However, if you want me to join your organization and follow your orders, I won't agree to it.
Moreover, according to the law, I am not yet an adult, and employing child labor is illegal!"
After a pause, Jerry continued before Fury could protest:
"Also, if you want my help, you need to be clear about it in advance. I will decide based on the situation, and I won't work for free. The appropriate compensation must be paid!"
