Chapter 104: Teleport
Chapter 104: Teleport
"Isn't that Officer Ye?"
"Officer Ye, is that child your relative?"
"Officer Ye, I just saw your White Fox. It came in second place. There were a few others that looked the same, but yours seemed especially spirited. I recognized it right away."
"Officer Ye, have you found a partner yet?"
"Officer Ye, what's your Red Puppy's name?"
"Officer Ye..."
Qi Tang Town was so small that you could bump into acquaintances after just a few steps. While Qiao Sang was rarely recognized because he spent most of his time in Hanggang, Ye Ranran was quickly identified by the locals.
It was like when an elder was out with a child and ran into an acquaintance; the adult would handle the conversation, while the child remained in the background.
Ye Ranran smiled and answered each question, while Qiao Sang's attention was on the live stream.
On the large screen, an orange Lantern Star was facing away from the track, using a Water Jet as a propellant to push itself backward several meters.
Qiao Sang inwardly criticized the method, noting that while it might speed up the process, it posed significant safety risks, as it could easily collide with other participating familiars.
Soon, the live stream switched to a view of the river bottom.
A blue Water Absorbing Salamander was seen continuously rotating its two tails 360 degrees, like a spinning propeller, to increase its speed.
However, it quickly ran out of energy, and its tails stopped rotating.
The live stream then switched again.
A deep blue Spiny Seahorse appeared on the screen.
Qiao Sang immediately understood; this was a live stream showcasing familiars with unique methods of movement!
It made sense, as the Marathon was a long-duration event, and watching familiars simply run or swim could get quite monotonous.
On the screen, the Spiny Seahorse would take a deep breath through its long, thin snout, which resembled a straw, after every few meters of movement, and each deep breath would cause its curled tail to unfurl, followed by a burst of gas that would make the water bubble and boil, propelling the Spiny Seahorse forward by several meters.
Qiao Sang was dumbfounded.
Damn, this was actually using flatulence to increase speed!
Who came up with this idea?
It was brilliant!
However, it must have been tough on the other participating familiars...
Although the method seemed crude, it required a high level of skill. After all, flatulence couldn't just be controlled at will; it must have been the result of professional training.
For a moment, Qiao Sang felt a deep respect for the Spiny Seahorse and its Beastmaster.
Treasure Seeker was similarly stunned, staring at the live stream in amazement, feeling as though a new world had been opened to them.
After seeing the Spiny Seahorse's method, Qiao Sang found the other familiars' movements rather uninteresting when the live stream switched to them.
Bored, Qiao Sang thought of Third Uncle's Bellowing Swamp Crocodile.
Where was the Bellowing Swamp Crocodile?
Why hadn't it appeared yet?
Three minutes later, the live stream switched to a black Inky Fish.
Qiao Sang was taken aback and leaned forward, squinting to get a better look.
This Inky Fish looked so much like Third Uncle's.
"Ran Ran, does this Inky Fish look like Third Uncle's?" Qiao Sang asked Ye Ranran uncertainly.
Ye Ranran was still chatting with an aunt nearby but turned her head at the question.
Seeing the Inky Fish on the screen, which was propelling itself forward by releasing water waves from its wing-like side fins, her heart skipped a beat, and she stood up abruptly.
"Ah Sang, we're in trouble!"
While Third Uncle aimed for the individual first place in this Marathon, it was ultimately a relay race.
If a familiar doesn't properly wait at the starting line for the Relay Band, the team's results won't count.
Qiao Sang wasn't done; she was the last runner.
Ye Ranran, on the other hand, was in a bit of a bind, rushing over in a panic.
...
Pine Oak Street.
The starting point of the first leg of the first track was also the handoff point for the last leg of the third track.
After placing Treasure Seeker on the track, Qiao Sang took Fangflare to the side to wait.
Many people around them pointed and laughed at Treasure Seeker.
Ordinary people knew that Ghost-type familiars existed, but they didn't understand what Ghost-types meant to Beastmasters.
Ignorance is bliss, and sometimes not knowing means not fearing.
To them, Treasure Seeker was just a familiar that could hover off the ground but couldn't reach the Cloud Track.
The Cloud Track was dozens of meters in the air, and Treasure Seeker could only stay afloat about two meters above the ground.
Treasure Seeker looked up at the sky, where the other competing familiars were far away, and seemed to be thinking about something. Suddenly, its two paws clenched tightly, and its small gray face turned bright red.
"Teeth?"
Fangflare pointed at Treasure Seeker, questioning.
"Maybe it's thinking about how to speed up its movements", Qiao Sang said uncertainly.
Actually, she thought the posture looked a bit like it was about to go to the bathroom, but she quickly dismissed the idea.
It was impossible for a Ghost Familiar to go to the bathroom. Inside a Ghost Familiar, it was like a bottomless pit, and some Ghost Familiars could devour anything.
Emotions, life, dreams, and more could all be transformed into their power.
According to experts, the higher the Level of a Ghost Familiar, the more evil it was, as their Evolution was often based on devouring, which wasn't limited to just energy.
...
After an unknown amount of time, a blue-and-white familiar sped by like a gust of wind.
Wind Carver, true to its name as a speed-focused Flying Beast, was the sixth to arrive at the handoff point among all the last runners.
It clutched the Relay Band and zipped past Treasure Seeker, attaching it to the band.
With the handoff complete, Qiao Sang's task was successfully accomplished.
She pulled out her phone to contact Ye Ranran, but suddenly, the crowd around her started to stir.
"What is that?!"
"How can a Ghost Familiar teleport?!"
"Isn't this a Flying Beast?"
"Am I hallucinating because of the heat?"
"Whose familiar is this?"
"Maybe it was invisible and then reappeared after moving forward?"
"Show me how you can float that fast! If you can do that, I'll call you dad!"
"Man, if I could float like that, you'd be screaming for help!"
"..."
Qiao Sang was taken aback by the commotion. A Ghost Familiar?
As far as she knew, the only Ghost Familiar in the entire Marathon was her little Treasure Seeker.
Qiao Sang put her phone away and looked up at the track.
Treasure Seeker was no longer in its original position.
At that moment, its paws were clenched, and its small gray face was bright red, just like when Qiao Sang first suspected it was about to go to the bathroom.
But in the next second, Treasure Seeker suddenly disappeared and reappeared three meters away.
Qiao Sang: "!!"
Wasn't that teleportation?!
Qiao Sang was completely bewildered.
Could Treasure Seeker teleport?
No way! Last night, when she checked the Beastmaster Codex, nothing had changed. After absorbing the Gloom Essence, it only gained 40 Points in Level and 60 Points in the Cursed Body attribute.
Qiao Sang watched Treasure Seeker, whose back was turned to her, clenching its fists and teleporting, feeling a bit dazed.
Was learning new skills really this easy now...
