Chapter 104: Fierce Souls from the Liu Hun Jie
Chapter 104: Fierce Souls from the Liu Hun Jie
Captain Lan Zhan of the Fifth Division had an incredibly low presence, but Jing Yue Chun Shui always felt a hidden danger from him.
Captain Kusaka of the Sixth Division, despite being a novice captain, was the heir to the Kusaka family, one of the Four Great Noble Houses.
Just as Jing Yue Chun Shui was about to make his choice and reveal his preferred candidate, the Head Captain spoke up, beating him to it.
"Chun Shui, I'm glad to see you're so invested in this matter. It's quite comforting."
"So, the last district of Liu Hun Jie will be under your and the Eighth Division's responsibility."
"That concludes this meeting. The four divisions assigned to Liu Hun Jie, please keep me updated on the situation. Meeting dismissed!"
After leaving these words, the Head Captain turned and left, while Jing Yue Chun Shui stood there, stunned.
"Hmph, you want me to go to Liu Hun Jie to find suitable Shinigami candidates? I hope to meet someone worthy of a good fight."
"I'm truly grateful to Captain Jing Yue for giving me, a newcomer, such a great opportunity for experience."
Hearing Kensei Zangetsu and Gin Ichimaru's words, Jing Yue Chun Shui, already feeling quite frustrated, became even more so.
He had clearly been manipulated by the old man Yamamoto, who had wanted him to work from the start but never mentioned it. Only when he had offended most of the other captains did Yamamoto finally speak up!
Jing Yue Chun Shui had lost even his underpants in this situation; not only did he fail to shirk his duties, but he also managed to irritate two captains.
In summary, the Zenny Academy of Spirit Arts was short on students, and they needed more cannon fodder. So, the conclusion of the captain's meeting was to send four divisions to Liu Hun Jie to find suitable candidates.
Captain Fukutsuki of the Thirteenth Division was a sickly man, constantly coughing, so he couldn't possibly take on this task himself.
As the vice-captain of the Thirteenth Division, Haiyan took charge of most of the division's affairs when the captain was unavailable. Therefore, he also didn't have the time to handle this mission.
This meant that the responsibility of going to the southern district of Liu Hun Jie to find cannon fodder... or rather, to find students for the Zenny Academy, fell upon Yecheng.
To ensure Yecheng didn't become too exhausted, Captain Fukutsuki and Kaede Shiba arranged for two female assistants, Akira Asagaya and Togure Sein.
Togure Sein was the younger sister of Togure Yuyu, the vice-captain of the Fourth Division. Despite being sisters, they had distinct genetic differences.
Yuyu had a tall and slender figure, a shy and gentle personality, and appeared to be a mature woman, but she was actually quite meek.
Sein, on the other hand, was a petite girl, a slightly larger version of a loli in terms of build, but with a strong personality. She often dominated the female Shinigami in her division.
"Yecheng, if you're going to the southern Liu Hun Jie, can I please ask you for a favor?"
Seireitei was located at the center of the Soul Society, while Liu Hun Jie was divided into four regions surrounding it.
The Seireitei was protected by tall walls called the "Seireibi," which had four gates on the west, east, north, and south sides named "White Path," "Green Stream," "Black Ridge," and "Red Hollow" respectively. These gates were guarded, and beyond them lay Liu Hun Jie.
Each of the four directions of Liu Hun Jie had eighty districts, numbered from District 1 to District 80.
District 1, closest to the Seireitei, had the best security, living conditions, and food supply.
In contrast, District 80, on the outskirts, was a desolate place where nothing grew, and people's soul particles fought for survival rights.
"Yecheng, the Fifth Seat, should we start searching for suitable candidates from District 1?"
Togure Sein was a new Shinigami who had recently joined the Thirteenth Division. As this was her first time undertaking such an important mission, she was feeling rather emotional.
With a sister as a Vice-Captain, Sein could have easily thrived in the Fourth Division.
However, her younger sister's personality was stubborn, and she believed that even without her sister's help, she could achieve the same success within the Gotei Thirteen. So, in the end, she resolutely joined the 'Purification Squad'.
Togure Sein had excelled in various subjects at Zenny Academy of Spirit Arts, and her Spirit Pressure was stronger than most Shinigami.
Therefore, after joining the Thirteenth Division, she wasn't sent to the World of the Living for training but was instead kept in Seireitei.
Just as she was preparing to make her mark, Sein realized that as a new Shinigami, her daily routine consisted solely of patrols.
Now, she could recognize every dog on the streets, but the opportunity to showcase her abilities seemed elusive.
So, when she learned that the Thirteenth Division was tasked with a mission in the Southern District of Liu Hun Jie, Togure Sein immediately went to Captain Fukutsuki to volunteer.
"No, let's start searching for suitable candidates from District 40. We can skip the first forty districts; I doubt there will be many suitable Soul Particles there."
Hearing Yecheng's words, Akira Asagaya nodded in agreement. But Sein, standing beside her, looked puzzled and asked, "But the number of Soul Particles living in the first forty districts of Liu Hun Jie is almost several times that of the latter forty districts.
Are we going to skip all these people and directly select from the later districts of Liu Hun Jie?"
Sein had initially thought that Yecheng would focus on the earlier districts of Liu Hun Jie for the screening, but she never expected him to go against the conventional approach.
"In the earlier districts of Liu Hun Jie, there are indeed more Soul Particles, but that's because of the affluent living environment and abundant resources.
As someone who grew up in Liu Hun Jie, I can teach you one thing: in such a comfortable environment, it's rare to find extraordinary individuals.
On the contrary, the Soul Particles in the later districts of Liu Hun Jie are more vigorous and stronger due to the scarcity of resources and even widespread famine. Because of the harsh environment, they have to fight and kill to survive.
Following the law of survival of the fittest, if they don't want to be bullied as the weak, they have no choice but to strive to become stronger!"
"So, the later districts of Liu Hun Jie often produce individuals with more backbone. They are accustomed to fighting and have adapted to the cruel environment.
The current captain of the Eleventh Division, the strongest Kenpachi in history, is Kensei from District 80."
Upon hearing Yecheng's words, Sein's expression turned solemn. After a moment of realization, she quickly took out a small notebook from her chest and jotted down everything Yecheng had just said.
Before their departure, Captain Fukutsuki and Vice-Captain Haiyan had instructed her that Yecheng, the Fifth Seat, was an exceptional Shinigami from whom she could learn a lot.
Since even Captain Fukutsuki and Vice-Captain Haiyan held Yecheng in such high regard, Sein naturally agreed with their assessment.
