Chapter 1038: Synchro Summon
Chapter 1038: Synchro Summon
Synchro Summoning was the first new type of summoning introduced with the Yu-Gi-Oh Master Rule. In terms of the game's lore and plot, it marked a new era for Duel Monsters.
The summoning rules are straightforward and easy to understand, essentially just basic addition and subtraction within the range of 12.
As mentioned earlier, the Dueling world is home to many monsters with untapped potential. These monsters possess the ability to extract their own star levels and combine them with those of their partners. Such monsters are known as "Tuners."
Synchro Summoning involves using one Tuner and any number of non-Tuner monsters. The star levels of all the monsters are added together, and if the total matches the star level of the Synchro Monster you wish to summon, the Synchro Summon can be performed.
Paradox demonstrated this process perfectly.
A Level 2 Tuner, "Doom Parallel Gears", and a Level 8 non-Tuner, "Doom Stardust Dragon", were combined. 2 + 8 = 10, so the Synchro Monster summoned was a Level 10.
The body of Parallel Gears disintegrated, transforming into two green rings that circled around Doom Stardust Dragon. The body of Doom Stardust Dragon became transparent, and its energy was extracted and formed into a chain of eight stars.
The stars aligned in a straight line, and a beam of light pierced the sky, creating a path of starlight that descended to the ground. The dark dragon descended heavily, lifting its head to let out a resounding roar that shook the heavens and the earth.
Doom Paradox Dragon, Synchro Summoned!
[Attack: 4000]
At that moment, the entire research facility and Kyouhei were stunned.
What the heck? What did this guy just do?
What happened to those two monsters? How did they turn into this dragon? What just happened?
"This is a Duel that transcends time, a future summoning technique."
Paradox sneered, but then his expression turned somber.
"It is also a summoning technique that destroyed the world."
In the future from which Paradox came, the idea of cards destroying the world was not just a figure of speech. This timeline was indeed destroyed by the advent of Synchro Summoning.
The emergence of Synchro Summoning almost rewrote the entire world's landscape. This summoning method was tied to a revolutionary new energy source called "Moment."
Moment was called a perpetual motion machine, but it was actually a pseudo-perpetual motion machine. It generated infinite energy, but it required the passion of Duelists to sustain it, necessitating continuous Synchro Summons to keep it operational.
However, everything has its limits. Moment's creation ushered in a new era of infinite energy for humanity, but ultimately, the planet was destroyed by Moment's uncontrollable nature.
This is why Paradox and the other survivors traveled through time to rewrite history. Paradox believed that if Duel Monsters had never been revived in the modern era, the perpetual motion machine would not have appeared, and human technology would have taken a different path. While it might not have been as glorious as the Moment era, at least it wouldn't have led to such destruction.
Paradox glanced at the calm Youxuan and furrowed his brow.
He had expected Youxuan to be shocked by the sight of a time-transcending technique like Synchro Summoning, but it seemed that was not the case. Youxuan appeared composed, merely examining the Paradox Dragon that Paradox had just summoned.
Then Youxuan spoke, "This era shouldn't be able to use Synchro Summoning. I see. Your Duel Disk, and the machine you used to travel through time."
"Inside it, there's a miniaturized perpetual motion machine, right? This machine continuously releases 'Stellar Particles,' so Synchro Summoning can only be used in the Duel area covered by these particles."
Paradox: "!!?"
At this moment, the future duelist's eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets as he stared intently at Youxuan.
Yes, the key to Synchro Summoning lies in a newly discovered substance called "Stellar Particles." The perpetual motion machine's operation continuously generates these particles, and their presence is what makes Synchro Summoning possible.
Youxuan had tried to develop the field of Synchro Summoning in his own time, but had to give up because Stellar Particles did not exist in his era. Even if he could design Synchro Monsters ahead of time, it would be meaningless without the scientific infrastructure to support it.
This should be common knowledge for future duelists in the 5D's era. But Paradox was shocked that a Duel King from the past would know this.
He stared at Youxuan for a long moment, frowning. "You're not from this time. Who are you?"
"Who knows?" Youxuan smiled. "I don't understand what you're talking about."
Paradox snorted, but his wariness of this person grew.
Not only was he powerful, but he also seemed to have secrets.
He must not be left alive!
"Activate the effect of Doom Paradox Dragon!" Paradox shouted. "When this card is Synchro Summoned, select one Synchro Monster from either player's Graveyard and Special Summon it to the field, ignoring summoning conditions and resurrection restrictions!" (Original effect)
Naturally, there were no Synchro Monsters in Youxuan's Graveyard, and Paradox's Graveyard contained only one.
The one he had sent directly to the Graveyard from his Extra Deck to summon Doom Stardust Dragon.
Paradox raised his hand. A vortex leading to his Graveyard suddenly opened, and swirling starlight shot upward. A silver-white dragon spread its wings, showering the sky with a rain of starlight.
"Fly, Stardust Dragon!"
[Stardust Dragon, Attack Power 2500]
Stardust Dragon, the ace monster of Yusei Fudo, the protagonist of 5D's!
In fact, the original version of Paradox Dragon had even stronger abilities, capable of reducing the Attack Power of all monsters on the opponent's field by the Attack Power of the Synchro Monster it resurrected.
Since Paradox Dragon had resurrected Stardust Dragon, theoretically, all of Youxuan's monsters on the field would have their Attack Power reduced by 2500.
However, this effect was negated by Paradox's own "Skill Drain."
"Battle!" Paradox shouted. "I don't care who you are or what secrets you have. For the new world, you must disappear!
Stardust Dragon, attack the 'Archangel Kristia' with reduced Attack Power!"
Infinite energy gathered in the mouth of Paradox Dragon, condensing into a black lightning bolt that shot out in a straight line!
"Then, I activate my Cover Card", Youxuan waved. "Trap Card, 'Great Catastrophe of the Evil God'!
When a monster declares an attack, all monsters on both fields are destroyed!" (Original effect)
A Trap used by Malik during the Duel City era, the real card has been modified to be a Magic Trap that destroys.
"A total board wipe effect, huh?"
Paradox laughed heartily.
"But it's useless against the power of the stars! Stardust Dragon's effect activates!
Sacred Ground of the Sacrifice!"
