Chapter 1035: What Kind of Duel King Is This?
“Let’s get to the main event.”
Paradox’s heart tightened at the words.
What is he planning now?
Youxuan: “I’ll use another ‘Pot of Greed’ to draw two more cards.”
“First, that annoying ‘Skill Drain’ in your back row.” Youxuan glanced at Paradox’s field. “A Sin Deck that can easily summon high-attack monsters, combined with a skill that nullifies all effects. It’s a pretty nasty combo. You can’t use monster effects, and your attack power is unbeatable.”
He sighed, seemingly out of options.
“Looks like I have no choice but to use this.”
With a wave of his hand, a Trap card materialized in his back row.
“Continuous Trap, ‘Imperial Order’!
All Trap cards on the field, except this one, are rendered invalid!
Paradox: “!!”
Imperial Order?
This Trap had the same effect as the one used by the cyborg Sogat. Known as the ultimate Trap counter, it was often used to counter dark decks due to its ability to nullify Trap effects. However, its own restrictive nature sometimes made it a tool for dark decks, making them even more formidable.
This card was indeed a significant threat to Paradox’s Skill Drain system, but what shocked him more was—
—How can you activate a Trap from your hand?
But the answer came quickly. A monstrous shadow appeared behind Youxuan, its form ethereal, with the Eye of Horus on its forehead and executioner’s blades for hands, like a ghostly executioner.
“Executioner - Magashura!” Paradox recognized it.
“During the turn I discard Executioner - Magashura to the Graveyard, I can activate Trap cards from my hand.” Youxuan explained. “The effect of Imperial Order nullifies ‘Skill Drain’!”
Self-restraint met self-restraint, and the luster of Skill Drain dimmed. The suppression that had held all monsters on the field was immediately lifted, replaced by an intangible suppression in both back rows.
Paradox’s expression turned grave. “With Skill Drain nullified, the monster effects—”
“You got it.” Youxuan smiled. “Now, the monster effects of ‘Archangel Kristia’ are active. And I can’t Special Summon any more monsters.”
Paradox bit his lip, his face dark and silent.
“You’re not done yet.” Youxuan continued. “I Normal Summon my second ‘Angel O1’.”
[Angel O1, Attack Power 200]
“The Special Summon effect of a monster named Angel O1 can only be used once per turn, so the second Angel O1 can’t be Special Summoned.”
Youxuan explained.
“However, as long as a Special Summoned Angel O1 remains on the field, I can perform an additional Level 7 or higher Tribute Summon, in addition to my Normal Summon!”
Youxuan picked up both Angel O1s from his Duel Disk.
“So, I Tribute both ‘Angel O1s’ to Summon—
—Level 7, Guardian Angel Joan!”
The two small angels dissolved into light, and a summoning storm rose into the sky. In the storm, a nearly transparent figure appeared, wings of protection spread wide, as the saintly figure descended in a blaze of light.
[Guardian Angel Joan, Attack Power 2800]
“Three angels summoned at once.” Paradox said coldly. “But none of these three angels can match my Sin monsters.”
“Don’t be so sure.” Youxuan smiled. “The monster effect of ‘Golden Venus’—
As long as Golden Venus remains on the field, all monsters that are not of the Angel race will have their Attack and Defense Points reduced by 500!
Paradox frowned.
His Sin Deck didn’t have any Angel monsters.
[Sin Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Attack 3000 → Attack 2500]
[Sin Cyber End Dragon, Attack 4000 → Attack 3500]
[Sin Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Attack 2400 → Attack 1900]
"Then, I activate the Magic Card, 'Treasure of the Earth and Sky'", Youxuan said. "During the turn after a higher-level summon, draw two cards from the Deck. However, the cards drawn this turn cannot be used, and you must set at least one of them if possible."
Youxuan drew two cards, glanced at them, and added them to his hand before playing another card from his hand.
"I activate the Magic Card, 'Soul Capturer.'
Destroy one monster on your side of the field, and then your opponent gains 1000 Life Points.
Destroy 'Sin Rainbow Dragon'!"
The powerful Rainbow Dragon, the strongest monster on the field, was immediately targeted. A massive claw emerged, locking onto the Rainbow Dragon and forcibly extracting its soul from its body.
Sin Rainbow Dragon roared, but after its soul was extracted, its body quickly exploded into fragments.
[Paradox, LP 1500 → LP 2500]
Paradox raised an arm to shield himself from the smoke and shockwave of the Rainbow Dragon’s explosion, his expression growing even darker, though he remained silent.
Youxuan then waved his hand. "Battle Phase.
Use 'Guardian Angel Joan' to attack the weakened 'Sin Blue-Eyes White Dragon'!"
A golden light, like a sword, struck down from above, splitting the Blue-Eyes White Dragon in two. The infinite golden light burst forth from the split in the White Dragon’s body, forming a fiery ball that engulfed it.
Paradox said, "Thanks to the temporary truce effect, even if a monster is destroyed, I won’t take battle damage."
Indeed, the White Dragon was destroyed, but the explosive flames stopped several meters from Paradox, hitting an invisible barrier and being completely blocked.
"I know", Youxuan smiled. "But Guardian Angel Joan’s monster effect also activates.
When this card’s battle destroys a monster and sends it to the Graveyard, I gain Life Points equal to the original Attack Points of the destroyed monster."
"Original Attack Points", Paradox said. "The original Attack Points of Sin Blue-Eyes White Dragon are 3000."
"Exactly, so I gain 3000 Life Points!"
The energy released from the destruction of the White Dragon was quickly absorbed into Youxuan, restoring his Life Points.
[Youxuan, LP 10700 → LP 13700]
Paradox gritted his teeth.
It really felt like the more he fought, the more he bled.
But that wasn’t the main issue. The critical point was that the powerful Sin monsters he had managed to summon were about to be completely wiped out in this turn. With Skill Drain suppressed and the infuriating Archangel effect now effective, even if he managed to survive this turn, he wouldn’t be able to summon any more monsters afterward.
Despite his face remaining as calm as water, Paradox was internally in turmoil, trying his best not to let his thoughts show.
What kind of timeline did I end up in?
Why did I have to encounter a Duel King like this?
