Chapter 1034: Danfu
Chapter 1034: Danfu
September 25, 2017
Bingzhou, Bei Feng, Mystic Gate Training Ground.
It was already deep into the night, and the entire training ground was shrouded in silence, with only a group of guards quietly standing watch, led by a young scholar.
Suddenly, a burst of light flashed within the training ground, followed by the appearance of Li Hai Kong, carrying nearly a thousand items.
This sudden spectacle caught the attention of everyone present, and as they witnessed Li Hai Kong emerge from the light, along with various items slowly descending around him, the soldiers on guard were left bewildered, their faces soon expressing fervent adoration.
The lord truly lived up to his reputation, with an awe-inspiring entrance.
Returning from the Mysterious Cabin, Li Hai Kong paid no heed to the soldiers' fervent expressions. After three hours of intense mental strain and hard work, he felt slightly fatigued, with an urge to sleep.
However, Li Hai Kong couldn't afford to relax just yet, as over a thousand artifacts were scattered on the ground beside him.
Fortunately, Li Hai Kong was in his own domain, not in the Mysterious Cabin. Here, he had countless subordinates at his disposal, and he no longer needed to personally collect the nearly thousand items.
Li Hai Kong turned his neck, addressing his secretary, Danfu, who had been waiting by his side and was the first to approach him upon his arrival. He gave Danfu a simple instruction to gather the items and send them to the City Lord's Mansion.
Originally, Chen Ping was Li Hai Kong's secretary, but at this crucial moment, Chen Ping was on the verge of breaking through to level 90, so Li Hai Kong allowed him to focus on his breakthrough. Instead, he replaced Chen Ping with Danfu, who had accompanied Guo Jia, to serve as his new secretary.
Danfu had been Li Hai Kong's secretary for about half a month, a relatively short time. Nonetheless, Li Hai Kong was quite satisfied with this secretary.
This guy was incredibly intelligent and had a high level of comprehension in various tasks, far surpassing Chen Ping in this regard.
After all, although Chen Ping had been Li Hai Kong's longest-serving secretary, his talent, which was initially impressive when he first appeared, had become less remarkable over the years as numerous talented individuals emerged under Li Hai Kong's command. Chen Ping's talent, especially in politics, was no longer as outstanding, and he couldn't compare to top historical strategists like Danfu.
However, Chen Ping had his strengths, and that was his deep understanding of Li Hai Kong.
This allowed him to excel in serving Li Hai Kong, making Li Hai Kong feel very comfortable with his presence. Even with Danfu, a top historical strategist secretary, Li Hai Kong sometimes felt that Chen Ping was better at handling the finer details of daily life. Nevertheless, Chen Ping would eventually have to step away from Li Hai Kong's side.
Chen Ping's focus had shifted from politics to the Daoist arts, and this change in direction would likely prevent him from returning to the position of Li Hai Kong's secretary after his breakthrough. However, Li Hai Kong would not mistreat Chen Ping, as there was a more suitable position awaiting him, one that better aligned with his new focus on the Daoist arts.
After delegating the task of cleaning up to Danfu, or rather, Xu Shu, Li Hai Kong had intended to return to rest. It was already around midnight, and his mental energy had been significantly depleted during the previous three hours, particularly in the last two and a half hours. It was time to retire for the night.
However, just as Li Hai Kong was about to take his first step, he abruptly halted.
Something was amiss; the situation at the Mystic Gate was unusual!
Despite his extreme mental fatigue, Li Hai Kong's senses remained sharp, causing him to pause his departure and turn towards the mysterious stone gate.
As he approached the Mystic Gate, Li Hai Kong noticed that its aura was significantly different from before, though he couldn't pinpoint the exact difference. Moreover, the countdown on the stone gate still showed hundreds of thousands, indicating that it had no intention of opening.
Li Hai Kong was perplexed by the changes in the Mystic Gate and the reasons behind them.
Upon reaching the stone gate, Li Hai Kong's eyes gleamed with golden light, indicating that he had activated the Celestial Insight technique.
Lu Hai Kong intended to use his own Celestial Insight to uncover the mysteries of the Enigma Gate. However, after a few minutes of golden light flashing in his eyes, Lu Hai Kong reluctantly retracted his ability.
"Strange, I clearly sense something amiss with this stone gate, yet when I use Celestial Insight, I see no changes at all. Why is that?" Lu Hai Kong furrowed his brows as he retracted his ability and stared at the enigmatic stone gate before him.
This feeling of sensing an issue but being unable to investigate it was not pleasant.
There was an obvious change, and Lu Hai Kong's intuition told him that this Enigma Gate had definitely undergone a transformation.
After a moment of contemplation, Lu Hai Kong instructed Xu Shu, who was by his side, "Send a message to Zhang Daoyi and Zhi Cai, asking them to pay extra attention and inform me if there's any news regarding the Enigma Gate recently."
"Also, increase the guard level at the Enigma Gate by two levels. No one is allowed within a hundred meters of this gate!"
"Yes!"
After Xu Shu acknowledged the order, Lu Hai Kong nodded and, after a while, finally managed to tear his gaze away from the Enigma Gate. He nodded to Xu Shu, instructing him to handle the matter and return to rest early. For now, Lu Hai Kong temporarily set aside the Enigma Gate and headed back to the City Lord's Mansion with the Wild Wolf Guards.
When Lu Hai Kong returned to the mansion, he was greeted by a sight that gave him a headache.
Due to Princess San obtaining the painting of Emperor Gaozu Slaying the White Snake, she had been in seclusion, attempting to comprehend the Dragon Slaying Decision.
As the saying goes, when the mountain has no tigers, the monkeys become the kings. With Princess San in seclusion, Nu Nu and Nian Nian, no longer under her supervision, were creating chaos.
Although these two little girls were exceptionally united when facing Princess San, as soon as she was absent, they immediately turned on each other.
Upon Lu Hai Kong's return, the entire mansion was in disarray due to their antics.
Not only were the two girls causing trouble, but they had also brought along all of Lu Hai Kong's adorable pets, including Gungun, who was in the midst of a fight, and Mao Qiu, the snow-white little monkey he had obtained from the First Emperor's Tomb.
There was also Cai Wenji, the little loli, who was being forced to drink by Nu Nu, and Silver Moon, both of them now in a drunken state. The main spectacle, however, was Nu Nu and Nian Nian wrestling on the side.
Lu Hai Kong's head ached at the sight that greeted him upon his return.
He immediately stepped forward, grabbing one of the girls with each hand, and gave them a sound spanking.
Of course, Lu Hai Kong didn't hit them hard. He lightly smacked their little bottoms a few times, then threw them into their rooms to sleep.
After separating Gungun and Mao Qiu, Lu Hai Kong carried the drunken Cai Wenji back to her room. As for Silver Moon, who was also drunk, Lu Hai Kong simply kicked her to the side and left her there.
After dealing with all of this, Lu Hai Kong finally returned to his room to sleep.
At this moment, Lu Hai Kong felt like a father dealing with his children. After working hard outside, he had to come home and clean up after these mischievous kids, which left him feeling extremely conflicted.
Just as Lu Hai Kong had put the mischievous girls to sleep and returned to his room to rest, his bedroom door quietly opened, and two little rascals sneaked in.
The two of them cautiously approached Lu Hai Kong, each taking a side. Nu Nu gently massaged Lu Hai Kong's temples, while Nian Nian softly sang an ancient and mysterious song that calmed and soothed the heart.
The actions of these two little rascals woke Lu Hai Kong, who had been feigning sleep with his eyes closed, preparing to scold them. But as he felt their touch, his heart warmed.
Ever since these two little troublemakers had come into his life, Lu Hai Kong felt like he had gained two daughters.
Although they often made him so angry he could spit blood, they also frequently managed to touch his heart with their innocence.
Lu Hai Kong sighed and abandoned the idea of scolding them. With the help of these two little rascals, he fell into a peaceful sleep.
The next day, when Lu Hai Kong woke up, the first thing he saw was the two little rascals wrestling, their sleeping postures slightly amusing. As he looked at them, he felt as if he were looking at his own daughters.
After ruffling their hair, Lu Hai Kong got up and began his day, which was destined to be a busy one...
