Chapter 1033: The Mysterious Elder
Chapter 1033: The Mysterious Elder
September 25, 2017
As the mysterious incident at the Enigma Gate unfolded in Youzhou, Li Hai Kong once again found himself within the confines of the Mysterious Cabin.
Even though he had stepped into the cabin, Li Hai Kong still felt a sense of incredulity that he could return to this place.
He had initially come on a whim, even preparing himself for the possibility of the cabin being rendered inaccessible, but to his surprise, he was able to enter once more.
Gazing at the familiar yet unfamiliar cabin, Li Hai Kong's lips curved into a slight smile, "Everything seems unchanged... Wait, where's the old man?"
As he spoke, Li Hai Kong's eyebrows furrowed. He keenly sensed that something was amiss; he couldn't detect the presence of anyone else in this dungeon, indicating that he was the sole occupant of the Mysterious Cabin.
Li Hai Kong strode towards the counter, and as expected, the spot where the old man usually sat was now vacant.
"Indeed, the old man is no longer here. It seems this place has truly been decommissioned, and the old man has probably been reassigned a new identity."
After some thought, Li Hai Kong came to terms with the situation.
After all, he had pushed the system to its limits, forcing it to shut down the dungeon. He vaguely recalled the old man mentioning the possibility of an identity change, and given the time that had passed, it was only natural for him to have transitioned to a new identity and left the dungeon.
"Perhaps, for the old man, this is a blessing in disguise. It's just a pity about these items."
Li Hai Kong glanced at the cart of supplies behind him, rubbing his nose. Despite his words, there was no hint of sorrow on his face. After a quick look at the cart, he embarked on his treasure-hunting journey.
If the old man were still around, Li Hai Kong would have chatted with him, but since he was gone, Li Hai Kong decided to be swift and efficient.
Setting the items aside, Li Hai Kong approached the front of the Mysterious Cabin. As the golden light flickered before him, he was about to employ the Celestial Insight technique to cheat shamelessly. However, just before using it, Li Hai Kong abruptly halted his action.
"After using Celestial Insight, I can only take away three to five items at most. Since this is my last visit, I might as well go all out."
As he spoke, a smile filled with the essence of extravagance spread across Li Hai Kong's face. The despicable tycoon then sprang into action.
Li Hai Kong recalled that each item in the cabin cost 10,000 gold coins. Although it had been some time since his last visit, he had frequented the cabin for an entire year, becoming quite familiar with it. He knew that there were around a thousand items in the Mysterious Cabin, which amounted to a mere 10 million gold coins. For the current Li Hai Kong, this was a pittance.
The tycoon strode to the counter and swiftly located the controller, ready to indulge in his extravagant spree.
Through the counter, Li Hai Kong learned that the Enigmatic Dungeon contained a total of 1,332 items, and purchasing them all would cost 1,332,000 gold coins. Without hesitation, Li Hai Kong waved his hand and bought everything in an instant, not even blinking.
What defines a tycoon? It's not the type who storms into luxury stores demanding the most expensive items. A true tycoon, like Li Hai Kong, either owns the store or transforms it into his own upon entering.
This act of acquiring an entire store is far more extravagant than demanding the finest items.
Such extravagance comes with an aura of radiance and brings joy to others, especially in Li Hai Kong's original world, where it shone with unparalleled brilliance.
However, Li Hai Kong had forgotten that he was in a different world, a dungeon realm, and at that moment, he was the sole occupant of this realm. In this context, his extravagance led to unforeseen consequences, and he soon realized his predicament.
Spending 1,332,000 gold coins with a wave of his hand was an effortless and lavish gesture, but collecting all 1,332 items was a daunting task. He had to remove the seals on each item at the counter, one by one, and then appraise them, which was an enormous undertaking.
It was only after making the payment that Li Hai Kong realized this.
This was already a challenging task, but what made it even more arduous was the system's timely intervention with a Divine Follow-Up Strike.
[System Announcement: You have purchased all the artifacts in the dungeon. The dungeon will close in three hours. Please unseal the items you have purchased within this time frame, otherwise, any unsealed items will be left behind.]
Upon seeing this message, Lu Hai Kong's expression turned bitter. "This is not how you play the game!" he exclaimed.
After a moment of lament, Lu Hai Kong sprang into action. With a tight deadline and a heavy task, he had no choice but to work alone.
Moments later, we witnessed the extravagant player who had casually spent 1,332,000 in a single gesture, now frantically working like a servant.
With his inner strength surging, he wished he could clone himself to speed up the process. He swiftly cleared the shelves, gathering the items and bringing them to the counter to unseal them.
Lu Hai Kong's physical strength, rated at 90, made the task of moving 1,332 items a breeze. In the real world, he could tear apart a Gundam with his bare hands.
He moved like a purple lightning bolt, darting around the small shop. In less than half an hour, he had piled up over a thousand items by the counter, resembling a small mountain.
Although moving the items was effortless, the unsealing process was tedious. Especially at first, when Lu Hai Kong was unfamiliar with the process, it took him a few minutes to unseal a single item.
At this rate, he might not be able to take many items with him when the time was up.
Fortunately, Lu Hai Kong's natural talent shone through. He quickly mastered the unsealing process, increasing his speed significantly. From one item per minute, he progressed to fifty seconds, then forty seconds, and eventually, he could unseal an item in just three seconds.
In the end, he managed to unseal 999 items by the deadline. Despite his desire to reach a round number, the system teleported him out of the dungeon, leaving him just short of his goal.
Along with Lu Hai Kong, the 999 unsealed items were also teleported out. Those that remained sealed were left behind in the dungeon.
Shortly after a light gate opened and transported Lu Hai Kong and his items out of the dungeon, the space, which was supposed to self-destruct after his departure, did not. Instead, a mysterious old man, who had previously been absent from the empty counter, reappeared.
The old man chuckled as he watched Lu Hai Kong's disappearance. "That kid wanted to take more than he could handle. His greed knows no bounds!"
He stood up and approached the items Lu Hai Kong had left behind. After examining them, he picked up a jar of wine and took a long swig, downing half of it before pausing with a satisfied expression, clearly pleased with the quality of the drink.
"Hmm, not bad, not bad at all. This kid didn't try to fool me with fake wine. It was worth helping him out."
The old man then rummaged through the supplies Lu Hai Kong had prepared and found some food, which he eagerly stuffed into his mouth. But after a few bites, his eyes widened, and he spat it out.
"Pfft! It's been a while since I've eaten, but this kid is trying to trick me! This food tastes terrible!"
He tossed the food aside and shook his head, then picked up the jar of wine and continued drinking. This time, he didn't stop until the entire jar was empty.
After finishing the wine, the old man waved his hand, and all the wine Lu Hai Kong had brought disappeared. Then, he vanished once again.
Just before his disappearance, a faint voice seemed to carry on the wind.
"I've given him the ingredients, but I wonder if he can make it work..."
The old man's voice grew fainter, and the last part of his sentence was lost in the wind. As his words faded, the dungeon space began to slowly crumble...
