Chapter 1033: Let's See If You Have the Qualifications
Chapter 1033: Let’s See If You Have the Qualifications
A little brat saying such things occasionally is fine—it’s even endearing. It shows innocence and dreams, which are precious traits.
But when he keeps spouting those words constantly, after beating a few tall young men, escaping from a burly man’s grasp, and then loudly declaring he can take on ten enemies at once while claiming those victories… that becomes annoying.
Worse yet, he doesn’t stop at saying he can fight ten—he insists he’ll become the strongest among all burly men afterward.
How utterly repulsive.
This world has never lacked geniuses.
William knew Charlotte·Big Mom could defeat giants at age five. Donquixote Doflamingo awakened his Conqueror’s Haki as a child. The World Government’s former CP9 agent Rob Lucci was hailed as the strongest genius in CP9’s eight-hundred-year history.
These were true prodigies. Especially Charlotte·Big Mom—she’d roamed the seas for years without ever loudly proclaiming “I’ll become the Pirate King!” like some cheap slogan. Who does this brat think he is?!
What William hated most were empty braggarts.
Goals and dreams weren’t things to shout—they were things to achieve through action!
“Jinbei.”
William turned his gaze to the whale shark Fishman sitting on the ship’s deck, his voice heavy. “You’ve joined under such a man? Have the former Seven Warlords of the Sea fallen to such farming steps? That gray catfish is clearly far superior to you!”
The only one called “Gray Catfish” was Joe Rudolph, the current Seven Warlord of the Sea known as “Deep Diver.” As a catfish Half-Fishman who preferred gray clothing, the nickname fit perfectly.
The Seven Warlords of the Sea had animal-themed epithets: “Hawk”-Eye, “Snake”-Princess, “Sand” Crocodile, “Gray” Catfish…
“Thousand-Lion Coin Doker?”
“Erm, Joe Rudolph? That old man and he aren’t even the same race, and the old man left the Seven Warlords long ago.”
Jinbei’s expression turned serious. “Where Old Man joins is his freedom. I believe Luffy can become the Pirate King!”
“Is that so? Let’s see then. You claim to have the confidence to become Pirate King!”
Bang!
As William’s words fell, Elmira raised his gun and fired—a barrage of bullets blazing like afterimages, aimed directly at Luffy’s forehead.
“Final Move: Gunpowder Star!”
A firepowder-packed projectile suddenly shot forward, intercepting the bullets just before impact and deflecting them.
“Hahaha!”
Usopp stood proudly with his slingshot, arrogantly flicking his nose. “With me around, you won’t get close to our captain so easily!”
“Great job, Usopp!” Nami laughed.
“Awesome, Usopp!” Chopper raised his hooves.
“Slingshot?”
Elmira glared at Usopp’s weapon, his eyes flashing with anger. “Are you insulting me with this?”
He dropped his pistol, drawing two semi-automatic handguns from his waist instead. Crossed his arms, exhaled sharply—then spun his hands apart in a flash, the guns clashing sparks.
“Death Cross!”
Bang Bang Bang Bang!!
Countless diamond-shaped bullets formed a black curtain, sweeping toward the Straw Hat Pirates with Haki-infused jet-black auras!!
“Waaah!!”
Usopp paled, instinctively retreating.
“Leave it to me!!”
Franky roared, charging forward dramatically. He struck a flamboyant pose, raising both arms upward before turning his backside toward the barrage. A powerful gust of air pressure erupted from his backside.
“Wind Cannon!!”
Boom!!
The pressure wave violently scattered the bullets, blowing them into chaos.
“His… butt?”
Montblanc and Sverre stared in stunned silence, glancing at Elmira.
Elmira’s face turned crimson with rage, his dual pistols trembling as he pointed them at Franky. “What vulgar technique is this?! I’m a gentleman! How dare you—”
The self-proclaimed gentleman, always composed, now seethed with fury.
He despised indecency, especially vulgar displays!!
“Hey! What are you saying?! My technique’s the problem? You mean it lacks manly charm?!”
Franky spun around furiously. “Besides, who the hell are you people anyway?! Attacking us unprovoked and throwing insults—who’s the real gentleman here?!”
“That’s right!”
Luffy tilted his head, puzzled. “Who are you guys? Kaido’s underlings?!”
“Who are we?”
William met Luffy’s gaze, his voice calm. “We haven’t introduced ourselves. And we’re not Kaido’s men.”
He extended his hand in a polite bow, etiquette perfect. “I am Sam William, from the East Blue. Known as the ‘White Admiral,’ with a bounty of 100,000,000 Beri. I came here originally to challenge Kaido.”
“White Admiral?”
At the name, five of the Straw Hat Pirates stiffened—including everyone except Luffy.
“You know him?”
Seeing most of his crew’s shocked expressions, Luffy cocked his head. “Who is he?”
“I’ve heard of him,” Nami said. “Not ‘White Admiral,’ but Sam William. There was a pirate in the East Blue once hailed as the ‘Pirate Hero.’”
Usopp nodded. “I remember too. I even dreamed of becoming someone like him. Never thought he’d reach the New World! 100,000,000 Beri?”
He thumbed himself proudly. “Hey, William! Wait till you hear mine! I’ve got two billion!”
“I’ve heard of Sam William too,” Sanji said. “A deeply-hidden pirate. Old man said he long ago had the qualifications to enter the Grand Line but never moved—it makes him dangerous.”
Zoro glanced at William. “Back when I was a Pirate Hunter, other pirates often mentioned him. Now I see—he truly has strength.”
Robin nodded. “A man who built his influence in the East Blue, plotting to make it his stronghold. Very strategic, even more meticulous than Crocodile. But why come here?”
As an intelligence expert, Robin—though not from the East Blue—had gathered plenty of news about Sam William. Even back in the Baroque Works days, they’d tried recruiting him, failing only because he vanished without a trace.
“In short,” Robin concluded, “he’s dangerous.”
“Second Crocodile?”
William savored the words, then chuckled. “I’m no one’s second. I’m Sam William. Luffy, your words enrage me. Before challenging Kaido—let me test you first, the so-called ‘Fifth Emperor.’ Let’s see if you have the qualifications to wear that title!”
