Chapter 103: No Sanatorium in Akeman Town!
Chapter 103: No Sanatorium in Akeman Town!
"Damn, we're finally here. I almost walked my legs off on this journey."
Qin Muye had been walking for about ten hours, retracing his steps from the location of a psychopathic serial killer who liked to stuff sausages, to the position of the broken-down car, and then to Akeman Town.
He didn't bother to calculate the exact time, but by the time he arrived, the sky was just beginning to lighten.
It was worth noting that even during the most dire times in his territory, he had never walked such a long distance, especially at night.
The wilderness at night was home to many terrifying things. Based on Qin Muye's speculation, these creatures didn't seem to be wild animals. They carried a similar aura to the psychopathic serial killer, and though there weren't many of them, one had been following him persistently. He guessed it might not be a killer but just a pervert.
At first, it was tolerable, but later, it annoyed Qin Muye so much that he pulled out a crimson-infused artifact, ready to activate it and give the creature a taste of his power.
However, it never got to that point. It seemed the creature sensed Qin Muye's growing impatience and fled.
"Arkham? This word seems a bit off. It should be translated as Akeman, right?"
Qin Muye looked at Akeman Town, his expression growing increasingly serious.
"I hope there's no sanatorium or mental hospital here. If there is, I hope there's a bat-suited weirdo. Otherwise, I'll have to reconsider the technological level of this world."
Arkham, or Akeman.
He hadn't expected "The Lord's Era" to really send him here. If there's no bat-suited weirdo in the Arkham Asylum, it means this place doesn't belong to DC, which is even more terrifying. It could mean this place belongs to a more horrifying world, the top-tier sci-fi world of Cthulhu.
Yes, Cthulhu is a sci-fi world, not some random fantasy.
However, he thought the possibility was low. If it were the Cthulhu world, a Nyarlathotep might have come to greet him already, or to greet him after he had gone mad.
Qin Muye knew a lot. Knowing about the Old Ones and Outer Gods in a different world wouldn't be much of a problem, but in the Cthulhu sci-fi world, it would be like knowing the profound darkness of the universe, a significant test of one's mental fortitude.
He doubted his own mental strength could withstand such a terrifying feedback.
Therefore, he concluded that Akeman Town was probably just a quirky choice. After all, "The Lord's Era" had always wanted to send him to Arkham Asylum.
Now, he was indirectly sent here.
As soon as he entered, he saw two men and a woman hurriedly heading out of town, and one of them, who wasn't paying attention, bumped into him.
"Excuse me, where is the church in town? I'm the new priest, Andrew," Qin Muye said, trying to exude the aura of a clergyman as he looked at the woman who had fallen to the ground.
As for why the person who bumped into him was him and the one who fell was the other, it was because he had a magical shield on him.
Seeing three young people eloping early in the morning was indeed a bit of a surprise. He wondered how this love triangle had developed.
The three of them looked at Qin Muye with bright eyes, as if they had found a lifeline.
"Father Andrew, do you know how to exorcise demons?" the woman asked, hope in her voice as she got up.
"Exorcise demons? I know a little bit," Qin Muye nodded. He indeed knew a little, and in combat, his specialty was summoning skilled fighters to help him.
"That's great. We've encountered some problems, Father Andrew. I wonder if you could help us. Don't worry about the payment; we can discuss that later," another man said with relief.
Qin Muye nodded. "We can talk about the payment later. Could you tell me where the church is? Also, my car broke down on the way. Could someone in town help me tow it?"
"No problem, Father Andrew. We'll take care of it," the third man said, patting his chest to show his commitment.
With these three leading the way, Qin Muye avoided many detours.
On the way, Qin Muye also inquired and learned that Akeman Town had no sanatorium or mental hospital, which relieved him. He didn't have to worry about a bat-suited weirdo beating him up or some day having fish-headed or snake people coming to pray to him.
Qin Muye also inquired about the identities of these three individuals. They were students from the town's private high school: the two boys were named Andy and Brandon, and the girl was named Winnie.
When asked for specifics, the three were hesitant and reluctant to speak, which made Qin Muye suspect that they were up to no good. Otherwise, why would they need him to exorcise demons?
Upon arriving at the church, although it was a bit old and not very popular, it was still being maintained.
However, it seemed that the caretaker was not a priest. From the brief memories he had, he knew that there was a church in the town, but no priest in charge, which was why he had been dispatched here.
Otherwise, the three wouldn't have been so surprised and delighted to see him as a priest.
"Locked? Who has the key?" Qin Muye asked upon seeing the locked main door.
"It might be with the mayor. It looks like you'll have to see the mayor first, Father Andrew," Andy said, but he seemed hesitant and reluctant.
From his demeanor, it was clear he didn't want to see the mayor, as if he were a small-town troublemaker fearing the enforcer.
"Tsk, alright, you three help me with the car issue first, and I'll go see the mayor for the key," Qin Muye said. He didn't think breaking in was a good idea, especially since the lock was his own property. He needed to enter the church legitimately; otherwise, he'd be in the wrong.
"Maybe I should take Father Andrew to the mayor, and Andy, you and Winnie can help Father Andrew with the car," Brandon suggested, well aware of Andy's situation. However, they were also worried that Qin Muye might leave, so he decided to go with him.
Qin Muye rolled his eyes inwardly. Fine, they didn't trust him.
"Sure, but Father Andrew, the towing fee..." Andy said hesitantly.
Qin Muye pulled out his wallet, which was bulging with cash, and casually took out three bills. "Is this enough?"
Andy's eyes widened, and he quickly took the money. "Yes, yes, Father Andrew, I'll have good news for you soon."
Seeing this, Brandon had a bad feeling and quickly pulled Andy aside to warn him not to have any improper ideas.
'It seems this kid has other thoughts, tsk.' Qin Muye glanced at his wallet and casually put it back. The wallet belonged to Andrew, and some of the money was Andrew's, but most of it was from the victims, which Qin Muye had found in Sisal's metal house.
So, if this kid had the desire to steal, Qin Muye could understand, as money was a universal temptation. But if he dared to try, Qin Muye would make sure he met God, and Qin Muye would be the one to send him there.
In modern society, what was most important? Money. Without money, one couldn't move an inch. If anyone dared to touch his money, Qin Muye wouldn't hesitate to take their life.
Soon, Brandon finished his task, and Andy and Winnie left with the money.
"Father Andrew, the mayor probably hasn't started work yet. Why don't we have breakfast first? The chainsaw restaurant's grilled sausages are the most famous in town," Brandon invited Qin Muye to breakfast.
Hearing about the sausages, Qin Muye thought it was best to decline. He was worried that a nail might come out of one, though Sisal's butchering skills were quite high and wouldn't leave such obvious clues.
"No, I'm not hungry. If we need to wait, you can show me around Akeman Town to help me get familiar with the place," Qin Muye refused and asked Brandon to give him a tour.
This mission had no time limit. As long as Qin Muye could resolve all the terrifying events in Akeman Town, the mission would be considered complete.
So, the method of completion was flexible. Qin Muye could use the Crimson Infusion to cleanse the area and create a desolate land, or he could slowly integrate himself and complete the mission over time.
Sometimes, taking it slow was better. After all, no matter how long he stayed here, he would only be back for 24 hours. Why rush?
Although the conditions here were not as good as in his territory, he had many areas that needed improvement. This was a good opportunity to perfect his entire territory plan and his own system.
