Chapter 1024: The King's Unease
Chapter 1024: The King’s Unease
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
"Only this guy is absolutely impossible!"
You Bei’s tone was resolute, leaving no room for doubt.
Her gaze toward Youxuan was filled with malice, suspicion, and a touch of wariness.
It wasn’t without reason; she had been thoroughly intimidated before.
You Bei, who had roamed through many dimensions, had never encountered such a bizarre Duelist. She had once been confident in her prowess, believing herself to be the strongest in this dimension, with few rivals. However, her confidence had been shattered after witnessing Youxuan’s duels multiple times.
He was a monster in human form!
During her darker days, You Bei had thought that once she regained her strength, she would definitely settle the score with this infuriating guy. But after watching Youxuan’s duel against the three Elder Gods, such thoughts had largely dissipated.
Now, she only wanted to stay as far away from him as possible, avoiding any trouble he might bring.
And now, Jou actually wanted to hand her over to this guy, saying something about assisting him in research?
Research what? Research her body?
Heaven knows what this devil would do to her when Jou wasn’t around!
"You Bei, you don’t know how strong Youxuan’s research capabilities are!" Jou said. "I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Many Deck series that were once overlooked have been significantly enhanced after Youxuan and his team developed them. This is an opportunity that many others can hardly come by."
"No!"
You Bei was firm.
Crossing her arms, she pouted. "Besides, I’m already strong enough. I don’t need any enhancement."
Youxuan smiled. "If she doesn’t want to, then let it be, Jou. This isn’t something we can force."
He sighed lightly, shaking his head in regret.
"What a pity. She was a very promising candidate. You Bei’s situation is unique. She was originally a spirit with tremendous potential, but after being influenced by the Light of Destruction, she took a wrong turn in her evolution path.
Now, even though she has broken free from control, her potential has likely been affected to some extent."
Youxuan muttered to himself, pulling out a card from somewhere.
"What a pity. When You Bei only had one arm, I did some research and gathered some data, which gave me important insights into her next evolution path.
If I could continue the research, it would be a shame. I’ll have to look for other candidates."
Despite her firm refusal, You Bei couldn’t help but feel curious when he mentioned this and saw him pull out the card. She couldn’t resist leaning in to take a closer look.
She was fine until she saw the card, and then she was shaken to her core.
Is this really me!?
[You Bei’s Spirit
Attack: 0, Defense: 0
Effect: When your opponent declares an attack, this card can be Special Summoned from your hand.
If this card is Special Summoned, you can search your deck for a "You Bei" Magic or Trap Card and add it to your hand or set it directly on the field.
This card cannot be destroyed by battle, and battle damage to you is 0.
If this card is destroyed, you can Special Summon one "You Bei" card from your hand, deck, graveyard, or removed from play area.]
You Bei’s pupils dilated.
Was this card really the direction she was meant to evolve into?
Though faint, she could indeed sense a subtle pull from the card. It did contain a trace of her own essence.
However, this card could not yet be considered a true "card", at least not one that could be used in a Duel.
The card was merely a prototype and had not been fully developed.
Youxuan was able to create this card because he knew that "You Bei's Spirit" was a real card and had a clear direction. However, the card was still in its early stages and was not yet functional.
When a new card is created, the text and effects on the card are the tangible manifestations of the card's inherent power within the Duel rules. Designers can't just write whatever they want. If that were the case, anyone could write down some explosive stats and become invincible.
The development of this card had not yet reached the stage where its effects were fully realized. The effects on the card were entirely based on Youxuan's memory and could not be used in a Duel. The card's primary purpose was to serve as a design template, and secondarily, as bait to lure You Bei.
Sure enough, You Bei's eyes were fixed on the card, and she looked intrigued.
"Actually... it's not impossible."
You Bei said quietly.
"Hmm?" Youxuan raised an eyebrow and looked at her.
You Bei folded her arms and looked away. "Don't get the wrong idea! This is all for Jou. Yes, for Jou, I can endure... helping you a little bit, I suppose."
Youxuan chuckled.
It was clearly a mutually beneficial arrangement that would make everyone happy, but why did it feel like he was taking advantage of her?
But Youxuan didn't mind. "Alright. Then I look forward to working with you."
After they agreed, Youxuan looked down from the rooftop, gazing at the dense forests on this island and the raging waves and surging tides in the distance.
Beyond this world lay many more worlds.
The Elder Gods were right. Youxuan also harbored darkness, a fear that no one knew about.
The world saw him as invincible, celebrating the legend of the undefeated king and believing that his existence represented the pinnacle of the Dueling world. But Youxuan knew better.
The depths of Duel Monsters were far more profound than anyone in this world understood. Beyond this dimension lay many more dimensions and unknown realms. Stronger beings from other dimensions might possess more advanced summoning methods and even more terrifying deck systems.
He had seen it; he knew the existence of such terrifying systems.
A mere mortal with a powerful deck was not much to fear, but if someone with immense fate power, like a protagonist or an anime villain, wielded a top-tier modern Yu-Gi-Oh! deck, Youxuan had no confidence in his ability to handle it.
So, even as the seemingly invincible king in the eyes of the world, he never felt secure.
He lacked the absolute confidence that he held the ultimate power and could face any challenge without fear.
This was why he placed great importance on You Bei's development. A fully evolved You Bei deck would rank among the top-tier decks in the entire history of Yu-Gi-Oh!, and it would still be a formidable force in the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! environment.
Moreover, the Elder Gods had repeatedly mentioned the worlds beyond this dimension, including the supposedly unique "Supreme Sun" they had shown.
Youxuan took out three Elder God cards and pondered for a moment.
Although it was a bit risky, he felt it was necessary to ask these three in detail about what was going on.
